From what I seen definitely not good enough.

Fitness may well have been an issue but lacked any class touch or jump out talent.

Was seriously unimpressed from what I seen

Concur. I thought he was very average at best.

Vukovic has been one of the in form keepers this year. He's improved immensely.
    OK

For me this would be the ideal squad set up for Season 11, playing a 4231 for arguments sake.

Goal Keeper - Kennedy and ?????
Whether that be Biraz coming back and reclaiming the no1 spot or a new player signed to challenge BK. JVS studies up, get his licences so he can sit on the bench and coach.

Right Back - Neville and Cowburn
Pretty obvious here, while Nev is becoming quite injury prone he is a proven A League starter and Cowbie should only get better and better.

Centre Back - Regan, Mullen, Boogaard and ?????
3 decent players fighting for 2 starting spots. It is painfully clear that Welsh and Gallagher aren't good enough. Perhaps there is Youth Team CB that is ready to step or a cast off from another team ala Barresi last year.

    Left Back - Ki-Jee and ?????
With Lee at the back it makes the whole line very solid, has shown enough to be rewarded with a new contract. Another young player will be needed to back him up.

Centre Midfield - Pepper, Kantarvoski, Caravella and ?????
Caravella would be best suited as a backup, Either Pepper or Kanta would be nice to next someone coming in with a little bit of a presence allowing them to concentrate on their own game more. Bresciano would be the Pie in the Sky signing here.

Attacking Midfielders - Alivodic, Cooper, Lundy, Barresi, Virgili, ????? and ?????
The youngest position on the new will need an influx of talented starters. Alivodic on the right with Lundy as his back up. New signing in the middle with Cooper as the back up. New signing on the left with Barresi behind him. Plus Virgili who deserves one last shot, he has the ability to cover anyway across the 3 AM spots.

    Strikers - Pavicevic and ?????
Travis Cooper is not the answer, Pavicevic has shown some flashes but not ready for full time duties yet. A Heskey-esk level player would go a long way in solving the goal scoring problems of the Jets.

To me that still looks a weak side. When you compare that to Victory, Adelaide, Perth etc its way off a consistently competitive side. What you have there is a side that may work hard under a decent manager but we certainly dont have that. I understand you have two spots free but that's just not enough to get the current team minus hoole to a decent level.
I think we need to get rid of more of our squad and go from there. Problem is our management would probably bring in players just as average.

I think next season will hinge on the quality of the imports we get and whether we can get a couple of decent Aussies returning from overseas. Barring that we'll need the youngsters playing out of their skin.

Oh I agree, a weak side but can only work with what we have left atm.

Trying to be optimistic, if we sign Bresciano, 2 quality Attacking Mids and a Striker who can score 15+ goals then its a whole new ball game.

But who am I kidding its the Jets, Tinkler won't spend outside the Cap on the 2 Marquee spots we need to fill to compete with the Sydneys and Victorys of the world.

Olyroos beat Myanmar 5-1 last night.

    Andrew Hoole scored a hattrick.

    Jamie Maclaren scored 2 goals.

We should sign both of these kids up.
    OK

    Neville
    Regan
    Kanta
    Barresi
    Pepper
    Mitch Cooper
    Kennedy
    Mullen
    Lee Ki Je
    Lundy
    Radivan
    Boogard
    Enver
    Cowburn

    Richard Porta
    Danny Ireland
    Brendan Cholokian
    Massimo Murdocca
    Pablo Sanchez (M)

That puts us at 19 dudes, with some changes made from a similar post I put on the squad cleanout
What's missing from that team is a more guarranteed starting keeper unless people are confident enough in ireland which I wouldn't be just yet, a defender that can play LB, a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder
Sanchez is worth putting on marquee money and could be a way to lure him away from adelaide who haven't re-signed him yet

Why the **** would anyone want Murdocca? Old has been whose main attribute was stamina. If we want someone that will run themselves into the ground, we should have kept Rubez.

And you must be thinking of a different AU player... Sanchez is behind Djite in the pecking order as striker, isn't he? He's also 32. Cirio, Carrusca or Isais I would agree with by Sanchez isn't the same quality.

Sanchez nowhere near marquee, doesn't even start regularly. Murdocca no thanks either

With Lee getting signed for 2 seasons yesterday that gives us still only 12 contracted players for next season:
    Barresi (injured)
    Birighitti (on loan)
    Boogaard
    Carney (????)
    Cooper
    Kanatrovski
    Kennedy
    Lee
    Lundy
    Neville
    Pavicevic
    Pepper

Realistically you can take Carney and Birraz out of the equation so that only leaves 10. Of the players left you would seriously only be looking at retaining Mullen ,Reegz, Caravella, Alivodic, Montano and Cowburn from the Youth team. Sorry, I know he is out injured but Virgili has had enough chances over a few years now but is still basically a "squad" player. Gallagher and Welsh offer us nothing that any local player could provide. Van Stratten too, if we are "moving forward" he can't be both the back-up keeper and GK "mentor"....I agree with some of the other comments that we need to sign a decent keeper.
So if you add the 10 players I have mentioned plus the other 6 that is still a rather week nucleus of a side, so with 7 positions remaining we need at least 4 (inluding a GK) who are up there in terms of quality in the top tier of A League players to make us a decent and competitive side. Otherwise we will be looking at bottom four again. We pretty much need a top quality DM, AM and striker. The reality is though with Tinkler at the helm and Stubbins "coaching" the likliehood of this happening is zero.

That also being said we are where we are we need to be quite brutal in our squad retention.

Out of that lot of contract Mullen only on satisfactory wages compared to other CD options out there and Cowburn are the only two that we should sign.

Alivodic ??? Still needs to do more

The rest really should be purged.

I know that may be harsh but reality is we are so far behind the pace we need a massive overhaul

I don't think Regs is HAL starting quality and with Boogaard and potentially re-signing Mullen, he won't be... but I think as a local, he's definitely a good 3/4th option, especially with Cowburn coming on in leaps and bounds.

Agree with Caravella and Virgili, reckon Alivodic and Montano have a few more weeks to prove that they offer more and can lump them on the bin heap as well. And it's shitty... because I reckon both of them would tear it up at better run clubs.

I think either alivodic doesn't know whether he wants to stay or jets are looking around before re-signing him.

I think there are still a few sydneyites trialling with the club that have been with us aslong as burgess(since January I think). I reckon one or 2 of them I predict will be signed, most probably Patrick antelmi to compete with pavicevic for 2/3/4th striker depending on what we do with a top striker.

Personally I know it's a long shot but James holland would surely be a bit peeved to be continually getting overlooked for socceroos in favour to mooy, mackay. Offer him decent money to come back and star at a club he knows and will play regularly under the nose of ange.

I think the mandate with mark jones coming in has been out with the slower, less agile players and in with fast and fit so think about your predictions as I doubt we will see any older players like bresciano targeted. We will need to find some creativity but I doubt it'll come unless it fit and agile too.
