If the news of Pepper leaving for WSW is true, i'm a bit mixed about how I feel though I think it's a positive overall. While it will be disappointing to lose a local, the contribution from the midfield (and not just him) over the last few years has been less-than-adequate.

Our midfield needs an overhaul. It needs to contribute goals. In 225 combined appearances for the Jets, the midfield of Kantarovski, Pepper and Caravella contributed 3 goals and 10 assists. This puts too much pressure on the forwards to score, create or the defenders to chip in with goals. Scott Neville has the same number of goals as these 3 players combined.

This is another squad spot open for our new manager with which they can bring in a player of their choosing, should it happen.

However, I'll always remember that double against the Victory. It promised so much at the time.

    13 players recommit to Jets

Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce that the vast majority of the players presented like-for-like contracts with the re-energised Hyundai A-League club have now recommitted their playing futures to the side from Hunter Stadium.

Nigel Boogaard, Lee Ki-je, Enver Alivodic, Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski, David Carney, Mitch Cooper, Daniel Mullen, Andy Brennan, Josh Barresi, Radovan Pavicevic, and Themba Muata-Marlow have each committed to playing their part in the development and success of the new Newcastle Jets.

Moreover, Brandon Lundy (Foxtel National Youth League contracted player) has informed club management that he will be staying with the Jets. Lundy's arrangements are close to being finalised.

Incoming Newcastle defender and respected senior player Boogaard believes the players plainly understand the potential of the club and want to play a key role in helping it reach its on and off field goals.

“Obviously news that so many players have recommitted says a lot about the faith they have in the area and how they can see the club going forward,” Boogaard said from Adelaide where he is enjoying his final few days living in the city of churches before moving back to the Hunter.

“It’s obviously pleasing that the boys that have been in and around the club over the last year, or however long they have been at the Jets, have seen the potential that the place has got.”

“It’s certainly encouraging to see that so many boys have committed given they had the opportunity to go elsewhere if they wanted to. To see them stick around gives me confidence that the group that is already there is committed to the cause and really wants to turn things around,” he said.

Boogaard added that he never had any thoughts not to sign his deal with his hometown Hyundai A-League side in the wake of the club’s recent ownership shift.

“When I made a commitment to the club I knew I would fulfil it,” Boogaard said. “For me it doesn’t matter who is in charge, I just want to be involved and do my part to turn things around back there and hopefully have a few successful seasons.”

Newcastle can also confirm that 26-year-old defender Scott Neville and 23-year-old midfielder Jacob Pepper have opted to take up offers from a rival Hyundai A-League club.

The Jets wish Neville and Pepper well in their future endeavours and thank them for their service to the club.

The club has no current update to provide regarding the playing future of goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.

Pepper.... not fussed TBH, he probably went for the club who was chasing him rather than waiting to see if the new boss liked him.

    neville, big loss, obviously.

Think we should make a big play for daniel georgievski from Victory with Neville leaving.

Never knew the signing of Marlow was confirmed either

Gutted to see Neville leave. Loved Nev 2.0 and 3.0 after the intitial Jets player 1.0. He was the only player in the club I still felt a connection towards.

    Signing Cowburn is a must.

New coach has a mammoth task to build a squad for next season.

Bit annoyed with the departure of Nev.

We backed him in with a contract not more than 5 mins after doing a ACL and with Stubbins getting the flick he should have been happy.

Anyone pissed that Neville is gone should look no further than Muppet and Tinkler and their disgraceful running of the club.

The bloke is one of the few loyal players who actually stood up for the club and put what was actually right before their career.

    Salute out to him

As for Pepper I can understand the departure of Andrew Hoole who at the time was stuck living the Muppet and Tinkler show if he chose to stick around. The bloke can be forgiven for turning his back on Newy at the time as it was the right decision.

Pepper on the other hand has chosen to turn his back on Newy when the future at least looks brighter. When a local boy doesn't want to play for the club it says something.

    In my opinion...

    Starters
    Nigel Boogaard
    Lee Ki-Je
    Enver Alivodic
    Ben Kennedy
    David Carney
    Daniel Mullen

    Fringe
    Ben Kantarovski
    Mitch Cooper

    Back-Ups
    Andy Brennan
    Josh Barresi
    Radovan Pavicevic
    Themba Muata-Marlow

Yes, a massive job for the new coach

    I agree Plague.

If I wasn't so damming on plastic fans I could find plenty of reasons why I wouldn't want to either

Also someone has said they are looking forward to Pepper going to WSW and he has retweeted it

So probably less likely to be a rumour
