I remember the FFA brought some flexibility to the system, something like a contract termination payment (i.e. payout of a contract) could be spread out over the following 2 years or that it could be brought forward to the current salary cap year (i.e. next years salary included in this years etc). I could be wrong and happy to be corrected, but if it were the case then SFC would have cut half their contracted players this year (particularly Smeltz).
