It's crazy how badly this team misses Penha in attack.
We improved on a majority of the squad in all aspects but that one. Piscopo is presumably his replacement, or at least is the closest like for like, and he's a good footballer, about equal to Boumal last season with the potential to be better, but he lacks Penha's it factor.
This, It was clear a couple of rounds in too last season defence was an issue and by seasons end there was no measurable improvement in that department so yeah Papas is accountable.
Never got the calls for Papas every time an A League gig came up and still don't. This crap about having worked for Ange means he must be some sort of hidden gem in waiting is just garbage. How many times did he tinker last season with the line up, How many times last season did we see useless like for like subs in particular our fullbacks. Never mind Papas and a plan B, He has no sound Plan A. Glorified Stubbins he is, Should stick to putting the cones out and head coaching to somebody who can.

I was watching us first half, and thought we look much better in that FB/wide midfielder area. Beka still up front.
Defence is marginally better without Jurman.
But yes, that natural creative flare of Penha is missing. Sure he was frustrating sometimes, but his high risk high reward go forward would suit this team imo. He has better cover in this squad.
On the whole, I think we aren’t too far off. Pen decision was soft and kind of killed off our spirit a bit. Then to let them score so soon after a half time Pap talk must have really taken the wind out cause the game essentially died there. We didn’t really look like we could get back into it.
Beka looks a bit isolated up front. He’s making plenty of runs in and around but when he gets it, he’s back to goal and has a defensive line to beat. He had one good chance I thought but wanted it on his left instead.
