Sorry i don't think a standalone 3rd grade Dudley team would work, the idea has some merit, but could you imagine a few of the current reggies/1st players not playing in NPL2 for one reason or another and playing 3rds instead.
We all need to wait until the poll is done, see what happens then.
correct, that does happen but not week in, week out.
If your happy with it, fine, i personally don't think it's a good idea.
The reckoning is it gives their 3rds somewhere to play in 2025, and moving forward if that happens do, we just continue putting whoever goes up their 3rds in the comp to fill a hole, still don't think its a good idea.
The ZL comp's will be all ex NPL U20's soon anyway or that's what someone believes will happen....
This sounds like the if Dudley or Suns finish top both teams will just refuse to go up.
Minmi already did, Croatia are taking their place. With all due respect they possibly should look at forfeiting their place to an ambitious team from the division below though. Just my opinion
What is stopping Dudley from starting a ZL3 Squad? There is already 16 blokes being squeezed out, plus if they sign some of their Kahibah/Highfields mates, there will be another 5-10 without a spot in NewFM.
Grab a few more players and you've suddenly got a very competitive ZL3 Squad. Instead of wallowing away in All Age.
In 2026 the U18s will leave the PYL and rejoin the NPL, therefore NPL and NL1 will return to 3 grade match days.
Third grade is being cut just to then bring in U18s for ZPL to change the disrupt the mindset. There is a mentality that third grade is a waste of space and these players should be playing all age, and then their is a responsibility of all tiers of the football spectrum to provide opportunities for u18s players to play at the highest level because one could turn into a Socceroo.
Interesting times ahead for Newcastle Football.
Even though that is one of the most stupid ideas I've ever heard of and quite frankly the only reason NPL and NL1 clubs push for this is to make more money and nothing to do improving the game for 16-17 year old players.
So in order to help these clubs make money with promotion and relegation is to force all Zone clubs to have 18s as well.
Which absolutely won't happen if they do take 18s out of PYL and move it as the game before reserves you're less likely to develop a socceroo. Plus if you're 16 or 17 playing ZL3 you're never going to be a Socceroo anywaya responsibility of all tiers of the football spectrum to provide opportunities for u18s players to play at the highest level because one could turn into a Socceroo.

From all reports they asked and were told there is a waitlist so back to the end of the line. You would think the teams they are forcing up they would be putting some effort in to making the transition easier.
I heard they asked to put an 18?s into the pyl as a stepping stone to adding a junior program and the federation are making it difficult.
You can expect a club to find out they have to go up into NL1 in September then all of a sudden find 5 competitive teams from 13-18 to just add into pyl.
From what I hear they have accepted their fate of having to go up. Even though they weren?t for it and now as they try and build towards it the federation are making it hard for a club trying to build and conform.
By the sounds of it the prize for finishing first isn?t that great
They tried having a U/23's quite a few years back, that didn't work well, so i would say they would have a similar problem making a U/18's comp aligned with ZL currently.
Since time began U/18's were part of match day in Senior football (or as long as i can remember anyway) and then NNSWFA dropped it, having U/18's on the same day does many things besides money making schemes.
It gives the younger ones a visual on where they will progress to, if good enough.
It gives some parents a better understanding on how clubs are run, some even hang around and join committees if their young ones make it, which as those who have done their fair share, all clubs need more members to join.
There is nothing better than being asked to stand by for reggies or even 1st after playing the 1st game of the day, under the current system in NPL it can't work like that.
But enough about the NPL shit show, lets concentrate on the best comp in town ZL1....as this is the thread for it...
One team and then a bye for 4 others is difficult for every other club.
They don't have to, PYL is separate from 1st grade, so they have made it easier for clubs to come up not more difficult. You can expect a club to find out they have to go up into NL1 in September then all of a sudden find 5 competitive teams from 13-18 to just add into pyl.
Conform to what? No requirement to have youth so there is no need to conform on that side of things.Even though they weren?t for it and now as they try and build towards it the federation are making it hard for a club trying to build and conform.
I agree
I've gone over all this in the PYL thread and why these are all flimsy excuses (if your 18s don't know they can progress to reserves because they don't play before is a major red flag for the club) and why taking them out of PYL is detrimental to 16 year olds and the improvement of the game in general.Since time began U/18's were part of match day in Senior football (or as long as i can remember anyway) and then NNSWFA dropped it, having U/18's on the same day does many things besides money making schemes.

Just to point out though the main reason clubs gave Northern when saying they wanted 18s before reserves was because it would lead to an increase in gate takings and canteen revenue.
You can certainly be asked to play for reserves or 1st grade, plenty of clubs have done it the past two years. There is nothing better than being asked to stand by for reggies or even 1st after playing the 1st game of the day, under the current system in NPL it can't work like that.
By the way next year at least 3/4 of U18s games will be played before reserves so all these reasons will still be satisfied.
There was a bye in 18?s this year
They have been told if you do not have youth you can?t go from NL1 to NPL. So what it means is if they finish in the top 4 in NL1 they can?t compete in the end of year playoffs. So no youth means 1st grade are playing for nothing cause there is no GF or can?t be promoted.
Tough to keep players interested with no incentive
There was two we certainly don't need anymore, however, those two clubs now have 18s for 2025.
That's correct, but there is no requirement for them to go into NL1 and even if they have 18s in 2025 they can't go up anyway still need 4 other age groups, your argument doesn't bear scrutinyThey have been told if you do not have youth you can?t go from NL1 to NPL.
Also let's be honest, they aren't finishing top 4 next year anyway
