Would find that very hard to believe though without us hearing about it somehow, and getting under the Smurfs radar.

If the money was there HSG would have to be certified insane not to link Cahill with Heskey !

The ball wouldn't hit the deck at all.

THE Newcastle Jets have completed their goalkeeping ranks for the upcoming A-League season with 19-year-old John Solari agreeing to terms on Thursday.

Solari is yet to officially sign a contract, but is expected to put pen to paper and be announced as the Jets' third goalkeeper today under senior glovemen Mark Birighitti and Ben Kennedy.

Solari arrived at Jets training on Monday from Adelaide Premier League club White City and was competing with former North Queensland Fury and Blackburn Rovers keeper Seb Usai for the spot vacated by Jack Duncan, who moved to Perth.

Solari edged out the more experienced Usai, 23, as he is still eligible to play in the Jets' youth team.

Jets officials are hopeful Solari will be registered for the youth team in time to debut in the Northern NSW State League against Valentine Phoenix on June 8.

hope he has a few pair of gloves, they'll wear out quick with our backline

I hope he is signed oon a youth contract and doesn't take up an actual spot in the squad. Could have been the reason for not signing Usai

Surely there is a local lad that can be brought through as the 3rd keeper, isn't that Daniel Ireland a decent keeper and even spent time at Coventry?

ireland is 24years old (or so). they want someone who can play youth aswell, hence why they didn't sign usai (as stated in article)

Reckon Ireland will be snapped up, probably by Gypos now that Ryan is confirmed as gone. Either that or us once Birraz heads off. BK to be local bench keeper for life.

Having watched a lot of the 19's and 23's NBN this season there are a number of keepers that would be deserving of at least a trial, and qualify for youth league as they are only 18. Young kid that was Magic 23's keeper last year would be ideal.

you would assume this solari guy has some AIS, SAIS, behind him to get the go, as Gary loves the institute blokes.

I don't really get why it is of necessary need to get a keeper under the age of 20 for the youth league. you are allowed overage players and keepers don't hit their peak till 25-30 onwards really.

would have gone for Ireland or that magic under 23's keeper from last year tbh (unsure if he is still there or moved on this year)

FFS, I couldn't give a shit if they're from Newy or Latvia. As long as they play good football and show passion for the club, I'm happy.

Winning > playing a bunch of locals.

I remember watching the Breakers back in the day having a bunch of locals and coming next to last every year. Not as much fun as having a winning team.

Reality is a winning team is what we all want to see and none of us will give two hoots if they ain't locals when/IF the day ever arrives

Those days of club loyalty and one club local players are long gone - look at the EPL as an example.

The most Newy guy in our club now is BK and as much as he loves the town, he will go straight to any other club if offered either more dosh, or a starting spot.

Tarek, Griff, Thommo, Carle - all stated they loved the shirt and the town but circs deemed otherwise.

Football is business.....we would all gladly take on the entire Gypo premiership winning team if it meant winning trophies !!
