Agree it is a big loss, but interestingly I read in the Telegraph this morning that the clubs want to introduce a loan system and it may be in place for Jan 3rd. If it is, it could be good for us. Obviously we would prob end up with some youngsters but at least we would have the opportunity to go for players we normally would not be able to. City have some great attacking players like Arzani, Genreau and Najjarine, Sydney have young Lokolingoy who might be able to be loaned.

In the past losing a player like Roy would have been the end of the clubs season. But when you are sitting 2nd and comfortably in the top 4 things aren't so bad. We used to struggle to attract quality players - now they'd probably be contacting the club offering their services.
Ernie has the team playing exciting football, players are happy, fans are happy, and the Jets look like a club on the rise.

It wasn't that hard of a fix imo. Surround him with quality players that will give him simple options when his on the ball. His at his best when all he has to do is win the ball then move it on, rather than him looking for that killer pass/miracle ball all the time.

From the way Kossie was talking it sounds Djite is nailed on for Adelaide. Which I think is stupid as I actually think Blackwood is the better striker long term for them.

What are people's thoughts on Oliver Bozanic? Just got released by his Japanese side and Victory can't afford him / they suck now.
Dude was supremely underwhelming as Victory's marquee. Even if Victory didn't suck or could afford him they'd never go back for him. He has become a stock standard sideways passer and that's it. Wouldn't offer anything that Kanta & UG aren't currently, and wouldn't be suited to any other position. Plus he's a born & bred Gypo. Steer clear of this dude.

Yeh I can't see Burns being a long term option but I certainly think he'd do a job if he was to come in as an injury replacement for the back end of this season.

In his teams last 34 league games Nathan Burns has had no starts and only one appearance off the bench. The rest of the time he's been listed as not in the squad.
He's had 3 games with the 2nd team - that's it - and scored no goals either.

On paper, it is one of the stronger Olyroos squads i have seen for a few years.
Still think Champness and Vujica were unlucky to miss out, i would have taken Joey over Blackwood every day of the week. But its good for us, we would have been extremely thin without them.
We have been pretty ordinary at this level for a while now so hopefully it can start to turn a bit.

IMO this would be the right call. Jackson hasn't played a lot and from what I have seen Tongyik is pretty handy.

Melbourne City and Gypos have been stitched up with important players being taken for this shitty tournament.

Hard to see the club letting Boogs go given the teams travelling ok defensively and he's in a leadership role at the club.
My take is he's over paid and a few yards too slow - so even if the salary could be sorted I'd still probably let him go.

I'm hesitant to get too optimistic, but really hoping he does sign with us and proves to be a similar revelation to what Vargas was. How awesome would it be to have two super skilled foreigners playing for us.
As Merrick said in his recent post match - all things coming together, we have potential to have quite a squad come finals time.

Defensively there wasn't much effort from him but first session and all and was a light one(those that played most of game against Sydney didn't do much).
Coaches and teammates seemed to be talking to him in English and he seemed to understand it so not much of a language barrier involved.

The tournament helps us to gain a more favourable seeding for the qualification tournament so it does have an outcome.
Given it hasn't started perhaps we are allowed to change. The game against Thailand was a warm up.
And at leasy with Joe, unlike a lot of the selections, he can actually play in the olympics if we qualify - a lot of the team selected won't be eligible and that for me is where the joke lies. Select the players that will play if they get you there.
Also - the injury would want to be a serious one to keep him out of the tournament. Guess the proof will be known in the next few weeks.
Honestly if Sotirio plays for WSW during this period it's only helping other AL teams more the WSW..
I still don't understand why so many Australian Football fans are against this tournament - any international tournament is good for young players development, even if it is solely to get used to training camps and travelling and hotels etc.
As a jerks fan I'm annoyed we're losing Champness for a few weeks but as an Australian Football fan I am stoked that he is getting this development and would like to again point how out ridiculous it was he didn't get the callup to begin with.
Is he playing tonight or is he leaving Oz tomorrow or what is the go??

Not a bad thing to happen. The kid has had a good run and gained immense experience, played more than expected. He is still raw and going over there won't do him any harm.
TBH when we have our full squad he will be on the bench anyway.

If his form continues in this tournament I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets get an offer for him from an overseas club.

I don't think so. He has been growing every week on the pitch. I don't think its necessarily the right move for him to leave yet either, but I'd say there will be some heads turning.

For once I agree with the member....some of these kids need to learn there craft a bit more before buggering off to Europe in hope....I seem to remember one of current players talking about Germany after scoring twice ina game.....pretty sure he is our back up right back now.

As long as there’s no massive abandonment a la 2008, I don’t think he’ll change a lot. Just a few minor tweaks here and there. Maybe bolster our central midfield stocks a bit, but otherwise the squad is in good shape.
