Best thing that has happened to our club in many a year was the sacking of Miller

    Bloke is revered for nothing.

I actually liking what we doing with Jones

I happy to stick know my neck out on this bloke because he showing something the rest of the useless managers we had haven't

I looking forward to when these chickens come home to roost and the big picture eventuates

I sure Miller still be getting credit for it some how

Says very little for Jones as a recruiter if we don't sign anyone who isn't an Adelaide state leaguer:

Life isn't the same without Con... but it can only improve without Tinks...

So signing a player from the NPL to fill the NPL player allowance is a sign that Jones is a bad recruiter??

Where else you expect him to sign an NPL player from ?? La Liga?? Bundesliga? ? Serie A? ? EPL??

I suppose you be critical when he signs the Yoof players and he picks Yoof players not 10 year veterans??

Reading the last few pages there is just a clear over-riding sentiment that we are all disappointed with the last 8 years.

This squad are Miller's boys. Guys like Ugarkovic, poljak, nordstrand, kokko, nabbout, vujica, Duncan, brown. Clearly they were aligned with Miller and I am sure they were all super disappointed when he got sacked (which, considering the amount of negative media we have had since the sacking, was most likely deserved).

Jones has come in. Immediately he had to overcome the nepotism insinuations and the crippling injury toll and put his stamp on the team.

We have scored nearly as many goals this season as we did all of last.

The side is playing a more fluent, vibrant and exciting style of football. The style of football he had to make the players believe in. It is with no coincidence that our midfield of poljak, ugarkovic etc are playing in the manner in which they are this season. They were benched early on, most likely as a sign of showing them that they need to start believing in the process, in addition to astute signings (fyfe, koutrombis) and return of injured stars has them and the team doing much better.

The game against Perth. That is the first time, in a long time, that I have seen another team actually change their structure to combat the jets. Yet, despite the first 15 mins of pillaging from Perth on our defense, the tactical training and coaching methodology allowed the boys to enter the break at 2-1 up and for the most part looked the better by the end of the first half.

I would have loved miller to sign a 4-5 yr contract (for the record) but unfortunately we will never know exactly where he was going with his vision.

Jones has had his challenges and from what I have seen so far has deserved his long awaited shot at the top gig. Not to mention he took the signing of Leilei in his stride, took it on the chin and was able to show he can actually work with the hierarchy.

As for the defence. You are kidding yourselves if a Mr Birighitti didn't have a HUGE role in keeping our GA statistic down. Yet we still lost by 4 on a couple of occasions.

Managing to merge various debates here.. but if we had Birighitti in goal this season I would dare say that we would be occupying 4th spot at the moment.

Jones needs more time to bring in the players needed to supplement his clear attacking based philosophy.

Totally agree with nearly all of this.

Raised eyebrows a touch at your thoughts regarding Birraz. He was by far our best player in recent years and I was a huge fan. Had a massive effect on our results and by all means was a massive loss.. However..

I think Duncan has done a fantastic job coming in. Not just a solid job but has genuinely saved games for us. Last week case in point. If you look at his two major **** ups. Both against Adelaide in round 1 (ended up 1-1) and the win against Adelaide when he threw it into his own net it really hasn't had a huge bearing on results.

He has however in my opinion saved us on numerous occasions.

All your other points are bang on though. Miller did a good job. Jones is doing a good job. There are positives to both. But at the end of the day Jones is coach. Miller is sacked. Time to move on and hope we get some results.

If da Silva is available why not chase him instead and look at him as a longer term prospect - on the other hand, why not just sign someone from the NBN league if all you are after is state leaguers, you don't need to go all the way to SA to do that now do you? There are Aussies abroad we could be targetting is my point, Miller did it, why doesn't Jones?

I think theres some contract issues around da Silva and Perth Glory. It was my understanding that because he wasnt bought by Roma, Roda brought him in only on loan.

Newcastle Jets coach Mark Jones revealed the club had already signed players "everyone is in the market for" from other A-League clubs for next season.
    By Greg Prichard
    21 JAN 2017 - 12:36 PM UPDATED 3 HOURS AGO

The Jets are unlikely to do any major business during the January transfer window because the sort of players they wanted weren't available, but Jones told The World Game that planning for next season was proceeding well.

He said the club had plenty of room in which to move because a lot of players were coming off contract at the end of this season.

"We're not seeking a short-term fix," Jones said.

"The owner wants the club to be figuring at the top of the tree in three years' time, so we're going to refresh our squad and change our squad and I want good athletes, good players and players without an extensive injury history.

"We need to make sure that in the future we're not in a position where we were earlier this season when we had four or five regular players out at the one time.

"We've got a lot of room in which to move for next season and there is a lot of planning being done. We're actively in the market at the moment and we've signed some players who can't be announced yet, but they will be announced.

"They're A-League players that everyone is in the market for, so it's pleasing that they've chosen to come here.

"We won't be releasing the names until they tell us they can be released, but we're certainly active at the moment. We're after the best players and we want to be a strong club that figures at the top again.

"We're looking at players at other clubs, as every club is doing, and it's a bit of a silly season with everyone chasing each other's players, but it's good."

Newcastle have recently released three players from their 23-man roster who weren't figuring in the match-day squads.

On Friday they announced the signing of mature-age rookie Joel Allwright, 28, from South Australian NPL club Adelaide City for the rest of this season, mainly as defensive cover.

The Jets had hoped to sign former Western Sydney Wanderers, Sydney FC and Jets forward Mark Bridge during the window, but had to abandon that plan when he suffered a knee injury in training with his club in Thailand.

Jones said he wasn't going to sign players just for the sake of it and that the Jets were ready to proceed with 21 players and back-up from the club's youth squad if necessary for the rest of this season.

"There's not much else on the radar," he said. "It would have to be someone better than what we've got or there's no point, so we'll wait until next season and then we've got room to move in terms of both visa spots and local spots."

I'm more then happy with the position they're taking. Long term prospects and not making rash decisions.
On a side note weren't we linked with petratos? As he's off contract. Could be one of the players mentioned

More often than not Jones comments are in complete contrast to our CEO in regards to recruitment.
