Both would be expensive geriatric failures and just the type of marquee we usually sign.

Of the younger Socceroos, Jimmy Holland or Tagz would be better but I highly doubt either would consider returning to the HAL. Maybe Bozanic might consider a return.

Of players already here Franjic is an option and Mooy is locked down already. Ibini is a realistic option who is available, and a good player to boot, in a position we need to fill.
You want your marquee to bring a lot to the team, and hopefully sell some shirts while they're at it. Holman and Bresciano would do both, to an extent. Bresciano would sell more shirts. Let's not forget only a couple of months ago Bresciano was still playing for the national team. He'd be amazing if he came back.

None of the guys you've mentioned would be worthy of marquee wages. If they did choose to come back to the HAL, no one would be sane in paying them over 300k and all of them should be under the cap.

It is commonly known that Ibini can't stand the lifestyle in China, and has done just about everything he can to be back in Australia since he came to that realisation. And I fully expect the smart clubs to lowball offers to him, because they know if he keeps saying no then eventually he will have exhausted all his options at home. If anyone pays him marquee wages, they're idiots. Particularly when you take into account he's pretty inconsistent, and is more of an athlete than a footballer.
    OK

Well i respect your opinion but can't disagree anymore. I couldn't give a toss about selling shirts and doubt very much the Jets make anything substantial from the sales. This club has a history of signing deadbeat marquees looking for a retirement cheque. For once I would like to see them sign a marquee player on the up rather than crocked and a foot in retirement. No one said they should be paid 300k although I would suggest Jimmy could command it. But all would be your top paid Aust player which means all qualify for marquee.

Your conments about what is "commonly known" about Ibini's return to the HAL are rather puzzling considering he returned because his father was diagnosed with a serious/terminal illness which is why Shanghai agreed to the loan back to Sydney. And why there are only 4 clubs who can compete for his signature.

Regardless of the debate, the FFA would have to decide if Ibini qualifies as an Australian Marquee.

    I don't think he'd satisfy the criteria.

Therefore he will definitely be our Australian Marquee!

Given that he has recently had a call up to the national team, I think he would qualify if a club pushed it enough. Also if we take the eg of the FFA allowing Thwaite to be considered an Australian Marquee for Perth, I can't see them not allowing Ibini to be one also.

Borat - if we're paying any of those guys 300k or less, there's no point in "wasting" our marquee spot on them, and we should be signing a legitimate marquee. Clubs all over the league pay 200-300k for many squad players. Most visa players are on 200-300k. We should be able to sign one or two of the 300k guys AND get an actual marquee.

FWIW Ibini's story is he despised China basically the moment he was moved in there. He was desperate to get his contract torn up, or a loan move, but his club said no. Until his father got sick, and they allowed it. He has never had any interest in moving back to China - regardless of family situation. He hates it there, and every agent knows it.

You guys can fap off over big name Aussie marquees.

Have it on good authority a player agent was asked by Jets to sound out a big name Aussie player he has on his books

Player agents response was to Jets he wasn't even gonna ask his man about Jets as he thought player would sack him on the spot

Make no mistake about it amongst any decent Australian player Newcastle Jets name is currently turd

How many years has it been since our name DIDN'T mean Turd? Tinks is just talking himself up with this marquee bullshit. We won't have any marquees for the next few years and we will be run on basic funding for the foreseeable future. He just doesn't have enough money and doesn't care enough.

it's actually good in some ways that the club is openly talking up who they'll sign

so when your Peter Crouch and 'big name Australian marquee' bullshit falls flat on it's face time and time again we can all laugh at this useles bastard's incompetence in every aspect of running a club

On the Cowburn situation it's an interesting gamble the Jets are taking. If no other club offers Nick a HAL deal then the Jets offer of a guaranteed deal the following season will be his best offer. And we get a handy backup outside the top 23.

Although Nick will be able to sign for any club during the NYL season. NYL contracts do not lock the player down from a pro deal.
Just ask Reegz about how that guaranteed deal for next season is going. If I was Cowburn, and dealing with these jerks, I would be doing what is best for him.
    Like Hoole did.

Wait... weren't you the one who wished Hoole did both his ACL's and never played football again?

Nope. I am on record that is a shame he is leaving but understandable under the current administration.

Would take Ibini but NOT as Oz Marquee or having to throw stupid amounts of money to get him.

I liken him to Kwasnik, Unless he gets his daily kiss and cuddle from Arnie and told how important he is he will perform like a busted ass.

tinks and coaches are temporary so at some point there has to be a stand where some players of quality decide to arrive/stay in spite of the current regime in the hope of building us back into somewhat of a decent team.

If this doesn't happen then newy can just fk off and adore eggball and that's what a lot of cunce seem to want.
