Tim Cahill unlikely to be in A-League next season after bid fails
    THE AUSTRALIAN
    12:00AM JUNE 10, 2016

    Ray Gatt

    Sports reporter
    Sydney

Football Federation Australia appears to have failed in an audacious bid to convince the other clubs to allow Melbourne City to sign the Socceroos legend as a third marquee player.

It can be revealed that a meeting of club chairmen on Wednesday gave a resounding “no” after they were asked to allow City to go outside of the rules and field three marquees instead of two for next season so they could accommodate Cahill.

The Australian broke the story earlier this week that the cashed-up Victorian club had been in talks for the past three months with the man regarded as the greatest Socceroo of all time with a view to signing him in a bid to lift their profile.

There has also been interest for Cahill from other clubs, including Sydney FC, but it is understood the clubs are unwilling to meet the financial demands, reportedly around the $3 million-plus a season mark, even allowing for the fact FFA has a fighting fund to help assist.

Another example of the A-League all but killing off a level playing field. May as well ditch the salary cap.

Gatty has since come out on Twitter ans said he got it slightly wrong.

The Clubs agreed to extend the guest player length to 12 months to assist accommodating Cahill

Ray Gatt has tweeted this morning that his story is incorrect.

I believe it has been agreed to extend the guest player stint to 12 months to accommodate Cahill at City.

I think with regards to the wing spots miller is still looking for versatility rather than outright wingers, therefore being able to play unfront too.
In saying that, i think the temptation of an out and out target man will prove too strong for miller.
In my mind i reckon miller is after a Scandinavian berisha, ie a frustrated striker spending too much of his career out wide.

I think we need out and out wingers with pace and who can beat a man and a target man would be good to knock it down to nordstrand who is playing just off or behind him wouldn't be a bad idea im surprised he never played triffo and nordstrand like that

And a bit of a tool. And to stand out as a tool amongst the gypos he must be a giant tool.

    This.

He is rubbish. Just pace, which up until this point in his career has made him look better than he is.

Cahill is not worth $3m a season to any a-league club let alone the bonus payments he will want on top of that from the gate, 3rd parties and so on.
Will be booing him deluxe if he plays for anyone other than the Jets.
By now he should have made more than enough money to support himself for ten lifetimes.

To me he is worth every penny he can get.

His reputation and legacy is on the line

Look at the likes of Emerton Kewell whose careers and legacies died in the arse in the HaL

Timmy better off playing OS and taken the coin there
But if he plays in the HAL he deserves big money as he has to perform

Since we all love to talk absolute bollocks on this forum... well i do and my mummy says i'm cool. Here's the players released from the PL. Anyone in here that is about 32-34 in need of a relaxing holiday and a muck around on the football pitch?

For me, only KOLO would be worth the coin. Just to sing his song every week and because he is the nicest guy ever. But let's chuck out some ideas and also add how much you think they should earn in order to come play here. I love the old debate about signing busted arses from the premier league vs signing experienced premier league players.

So i'll say Kolo on Marquee wages of about $1 million a year. So the believability rating is about 0.5 out of 5. Because we can't afford it and he earnt about 3 million pounds lat year.

Some interesting names on their. Peter Skapetis released from Stoke and James Demetriou released from Swansea. Both are young Aussies. Might be worth a look on a trial.

A look at the Arsenal released, Flamini, Arteta and Rosicky. All three could be great in the A League potentially, we do not really need another holding midfielder however be interested to watch Rosicky's games for the Czech's at the Euros, he could be a really good Attacking midfield option for a team like us.

Then you have young English players that seem to have lost their way a bit like a Nick Powell who probably would not come to the A League but could really be a force down here, not for Marquee wages though.

Wasn't Nick Powell a hugely talented prospect that went from lower league to Man U and then disappeared?

    How???

Any young player who shows promise would be an idiot to turn down a move to one of the biggest clubs on the planet just to continue playing at an inferior level
