Is the lack of rumours around the finalisation of the squad concerning anyone other than me? We signed Moss and NTS without any rumours that I saw or heard - surely we can't be getting good at keeping negotiations behind closed doors?

Ever since the Brazilian 10 fell through, we've not heard anything about 2nd, 3rd or 4th options.

My bet - we start the season still need to complete the squad.

My optimism for the season is flying out the window and these games do nothing to help us identify and resolve issues.
How negative.....it wasn't meant to be just about the games.

It's about engagement and 4100 in Port indicates people want to see them. People have often complained we don't engage NNSW enough.

And don't forget the coaching and autograph sessions.

    Im concerned.

These final 2 signings need to be as influential as ninkovic and castro to get us near the finals

    Exactly.
We were lucky enough to have the Jets tour in Muswellbrook last year, and I can guarantee that 600+ kids from this region had a blast at a coaching clinic held with players they only get to see on TV.

It's about fan engagement and sponsor responsibilities. Without those things, there is no HAL let alone club.

Not only that, it's about the team-building/bonding going on the trip as well.

Fvck we are a miserable bunch of cunce..
If we beat them 1-0, people would be complaining about how sh!t we are..
We beat them 16-0 and people are complaining about how sh!t we are for not finding decent competition..
    Love being a Jets fan..

If it gets families, kids, people from regional centres out to support and watch our team, to meet players, etc then it can only be a good thing for the game..

As for the finalisation of the squad.. I keep seeing other teams signing foreign players (Nix with Serbian, Adelaide with Algerian, Sydney with Polish, etc).
While they are yet to be proven in the A-league, it still gets me wondering what on earth we are doing with our recruitment..

    100% agree with this.
Some of you seriously need to think about how lucky you are that you get to go to a game roughly every 2nd weekend - even when we are winning spoons. It may be tough supporting the jets at times, but I would give anything to be able to get to games but cant because of travel distance and other commitments.

The jets are meant to represent Northern NSW not just Newcastle so while the scoreline isnt great (but everyone has been hammering them for not thrashing NPL teams, so they have done exactly what people wanted them to do) the 4100 fans that turned up in port and whatever the number that turned up in Tamworth may have gone to the only game they will get a chance to see all year because they dont have the opportunity to get to Newcastle to see a regular season game. Not to mention that a whole heap of kids are now going to mum and dad can we go watch the jets again this year?
Lets not forget the season doesn't start till October, does it really matter that we are doing these types of camps now? If we were doing it the week before the season I might worry, but we now have 3 confirmed and 1 possible game against a-league opponents in the next month (not sure how accurate the reports I read about these were so could be wrong) so it seems as though they are doing the right thing by the football community and club and by all reports posted have done a great job of it. So well done to the jets management and players.

As a test of quality, yes. I think there reaches a point where it surpasses being a challenge and becomes little more than a training run. The tests are going to come in the next few weeks when we play Sydney FC, Wellington and (possibly) Melbourne City. It can't hurt the strikers finding the back of the net, however, and some time spent building front 3 combinations. I'd also suggest the likes of Vujica, Champness, Cowburn and Clut getting on the score sheet will give Merrick something to consider for teh coming weeks.

As others have pointed out, there's more of the "Jets message" they deliver on tours like this, which I'm sure you're more than aware of.

    No you are wrong

    It is the NEWCASTLE Jets

    It ain't the NNSW Jets

The club represents Newy and some Chinese Lightsalesmans empire

Branching out to spread the club's reach into NNSW is fine but don't try drawing it out that the Jets represent Coffs Harbour Or Tamworth or Port Macquarie or anyone else north of Newy

These camps are not the issue

It that the club is playing trials against massive inferior opponents

16-0 is a ****ing joke you can't dress it up any other way

May as well have played the W League side

    You're 100% right - let's forget it.

Let's just conceed and have all the kids in the region running around in Gypo yellow, pretending to be Josh Bingham knocking in goals, dreaming they're playing at Gosford Stadium and have their parents spending their hard earned on buying them Mariners replica kits and making the once or twice a year pilgramige down to the Central Coast.

As for quality it doesn't become a training run when the challenge aspect is removed

It becomes more or less pointless

Doing the business against quality opponents breeds confidence

Smashing goals past weak opposition does very little

If I had a game of back yard cricket with my 7 year old nephew I ain't going to be fapping about getting a hundred every time I bat am I ??

I will just leave this here for you - wouldn't want facts to get in the way of your arguments.

    About Us
    Brief History
On November 1 2004, Football Federation Australia (FFA) – the governing body for football in Australia – announced that the Newcastle United Jets (Newcastle Jets) was one of eight franchises to have successfully bid for a place in the freshly founded Hyundai A-League – the new top, fully professional division of football in Australia. Alongside foundation clubs from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Gosford, Brisbane, and Auckland (New Zealand), Newcastle’s bid had been given the privileged opportunity to represent the Northern New South Wales region – an area steeped in football history and tradition – in what would ultimately become one of the most exciting, engaging and rapidly growing sporting competitions in Asia.

More to your point, why even play backyard cricket with your 7 year old nephew? You're gonna beat him. You're not challenging yourself. FFS, MFKS you should be playing backyard cricket against South Africa instead of wasting your time with your nephew.

hahahaha blokes on here would rather the Jets stay home and train running around some witches hats in front of some broke uni students instead of running around some living breathing humans in front of living breathing humans with wallets.
