There were no yellow or red cards until 1976 in English Football - meaning, defenders pretty much could chop / cut down players all day - and they did.. So, unlike Messi and CR7, Best was not a protected species and he had to contend with two footed tackles from behind, headbutts, elbows, rabbit punches... you name it.
Then you have the quogmire type pitches Best had to contend with and the leather ball......

CR7 and Messi are standouts in today's game - but I can't imagine either of them doing what Best did - certainly not Messi given his inability to win a game on his own.

Iniesta would have been great in any era.

Facts?? Those players were as good no doubt as defenders but they couldn't ping a pass with their left and right like Terry and didn't posses the goal scoring power Terry has which is why he is the highest scoring defender in the prem

Seriously tho, Bayern look pretty good again this year. They have the cover for Robben and Ribery (Lewandowski a little bit as well) so that they can be rested during the regular season and save them a bit for UCL. Bayern would be my favourites at this very early stage to win the whole thing.

Then we can face them in the super cup next year and lose....
