I agree there are mixed messages having him on the bench. I'm a believer that everyone on there needs to be an option - but as was said in the presser Archie has maybe 10 or 15 minutes in him at most. Having him on the sideline warming up creates frustration among the fans.

As for the speed of getting it addressed - perhaps a conservative approach was tried first. That hasn't responded so surgery is the next step. I'm just making assumptions, but taking a step back for a second - it's a big decision to operate on a 19 year old's back.
The article explained why he was on the bench and didn't play, it said that they had him on the bench because they thought he was a good option for 10-15 minutes at the end if we were chasing the game.

Once we went down a man, the role of the striker in that team was going to be a lot more physical and pressing based, hunting for scraps, and it was decided it wouldn't be suitable for either party to put Goodwin on for that role.
