Newcastle has such a rich football history with a catchment area to the QLD border, only competition in town is Rugby League and thousands and thousands of kids, mums and dads from 5 to 55 actively playing soccer every weekend.

Why is this so hard! This town has shown time and time again that we will support a strong and secure Jets. When times get tough and more importantly uncertain off the pitch, people stay away.

I am 99% sure when each owner (Con, Tinks, Lee) were at their peak e.g. posing with the scarf in front of the grandstand, signing well known imports, saluting to the Griff etc, our crowds were at their highest!

I get running a football club is hard and costly in Australia, but the blueprint is right there (unfortunately down the F3 in a shanty town) but like man, it can't be that hard.

No they havent. One or two games in the midst of a winning run doesnt count unless when that run goes away they stick with the Jets which they never do

Borrowed from a news article today Thur

"Two more A-League players have been named as participants in an alleged bet-fixing scheme involving their Macarthur FC teammates.
Matthew Millar and Jed Drew are accused of participating in a criminal group that also allegedly involved three charged players, club captain Ulises Davila and teammates Clayton Lewis and Kearyn Baccus.
Their identities were revealed in documents today as midfielder Baccus, 32, became the first of the trio to face court over the alleged plot to receive yellow cards in return for payment."

Apparently Jed Drew is not part of the gang. The Bulls put out a statement recently regarding that misinformation

Some interesting departures from Victory, Macarthur and Sydney over the last few days.

Wonder if any will end up with us? Brimmer and Ikonomidis are probably the pick on paper but neither set the world on fire the last season and a half. Brattan is off to Macarthur and they sold Girwood-Reich for a fee to America.

    MACARTHUR
    — Charles M’Mombwa
    — Daniel De Silva
    — Danijel Nizic
    — Jerry Skotadis
    — Jesper Webber
    — Kearyn Baccus
    — Matthew Millar
    — Tommy Smith

    VICTORY
    — Jake Brimmer
    — Chris Ikonomidis
    — Stefan Nigro
    — Eli Adams
    — Salim Khelifi
    — Ahmad Taleb

The sale to America of JGR...I think in the past we looked at ourselves on par with the MLS for football quality (not in terms of financial capacity). Suggest that may no longer be the case if they're seeing us as a market from which to buy.

MLS is flushed with cash, A League isn't. Cash is king, players will chase the money. MLS clubs have recruited internationals from South America in recent years. Many from Argentina, Paraguay and Columbia.

While the A League is going forward the A League has stalled. APL have wasted too much money. Big concern is the salary cap isn't going up with the slash of grants to clubs.

All clubs are losing experienced players, My concern is the League will end up with squads that are all very young. Great for player development but many good players 25 plus will head overseas as the money won't be in Australia.

APL need to sort finances out and grow the game. Increase of salary cap will increase quality of the competition.

Would have Ikonomidis. He hasn't set the world alight in recent times but i like his speed and always looking to beat his man and drive into the box.

One way or another Conroy n Co need to convince those with the real sway behind the scenes ie Lederer n Co they need to put there tail between there legs eat some humble pie and embrace the FA back to the League in some capacity in order to get the competition n clubs in particular some much needed funding. As much as the club owners may not like to admit it they need the FA directly involved again day to day and also pitching in when it comes to carrying the can.

Are game fixing payments inside or outside of the salary cap?

Would be nice if they announced the full list of metrics they will use at the start of the season, and then release the results of all of them at the end, so that we can get a real understanding.
