I think it's a pretty big statement by the club if they were to appoint Zane as caretaker as opposed to Deans. Deans has had the chances/experiences to warrant that caretaker job at the very least (he's statistically the most successful coach in HAL history with a 66.67% win record). The lack of faith shown to him by the club is huge here - wouldn't be surprised if he moved on tbh.
    Agree 100%

A thought - Deans may see the interim role for what it is, decided not to put his hat in the ring in hopes of getting the full-time gig for next season?

Just Announced - Clacka is the new coach. I'm not sure about this move - Will he have the support of the players? Can't be any worse i guess, but doesn't have a super record as a youth or W-League coach.

I heard that GVE had finally lost the support of a few senior players.

Yeah, TWG has it that "Youth team coach Clayton Zane is expected to be given the reins on an interim basis till the end of the season until a long-term replacement is found."

It does seem odd that he would be given the interim job over Deans.. Not sure how I feel about Clacka at the helm..

Why? If GVE stays on as emerging jets coach this thread can still be considered valid

As for Zane as far as I am concerned the jury is still out on him.

Jets Yoof in the NBN went down hill after he took after from Pappas in not just quality of play but results.

Last years NBN was a disaster except for the fact we blooded a pile of young blokes.

Our results in the NYL are nothing to fap about either when you consider these blokes are together all year against other teams who congregate just for the NYL

As for his coaching well he has more of an idea on implementing the GVE way of play than Gary did so that's a positive.

That also being said I feel a great coach who was a former player should get good results from his players who play the role he used to play back in the day. On that note Kale has regressed in the last 12 months under Zane.

That being said Zane always picks Kale despite his indifferent form and rarely hooks him so obviously has some love for the bloke.

I am not convinced he is the man for the job but will give him the support to take the opportunity. Bloke pairs Kale and Griffo together this weekend against the Scum then I am calling for a statue for the bloke though

I felt a tribute was necessary

    Gary Van Egmond’s Jet’s Career

Overall – 145 games including Official Pre-Season Competition and ACL
    Wins – 5, Losses – 56, Draws – 37

    Stint 1 – 78 games
    Wins – 30, Losses – 27, Draws – 23

    Stint 2 – 66 games
    Wins – 21, Losses – 29, Draws – 16

    Key facts:
    • Gary only beat Sydney FC 4 of the 18 games he coached against them. He lost 11.
    • In 17 games against the Roar, Gary lead the team to 9 victories and 5 losses.
    • In 16 games against the Victory, Gary lead the team to 10 wins and 4 losses.
    • However, 2 of these losses against the Victory were the two biggest defeats Gary suffered in his two stints. Both were 5-0 losses in Melbourne.
    • Gary only ever lost to an Ernie Merrick team once in 9 meetings (5-0 in
    • Gary is the only Jets coach to have brought the Jets from behind at half time to win.
    • During his two tenures, the Jets kept 31 clean sheets, but were kept scoreless on 37 occasions.
    • Gary’s biggest wins were a 4-0 Victory in Season 2 over the Melbourne Victory (1st stint) and a 5-2 win over Sydney FC in Season 7.
    • Only manager to take us to ACL
    • His last managerial appearance in the Finals was the Grand Final.

Any chance you would know, in all of those games, how many times we won by more than 1 goal?
I reckon you would be able to count it on one hand, we very very rarely put teams away during his time!

Find it hard to believe we have won 21 games in the last 2 and a half years.

Seriously have we arsed that many coz it doesn't seem right???
