The books were shit - the movies took shit to an entirely different level.
Only thing worse would be the Harry Potter films. They really suck.

Yeah the end of the third one dragged on.
Other than that, loved the movies and enjoyed the books too.

Admittedly, Donnie Darko is one of my fave films.
BUT come on mate, they were all battling things themselves..
Frodo's latent desires, Samwise's eating disorder, Gandalf's love of the halfings "leaf", Treebeard's dimentia.. (just to name a few)
Possibly worst of all, poor old Legolas couldn't even sink enough turps to get a buzz on..

Donnie Darko is a great movie but it wasn't even Jake Gyllenhaals best performance that year. Bubble boy was.
Also, I could have taken that silly Rabbit if he had somehow wandered into Middlearth. Or at least stuck my finger in the closest ring and gone all invisible and stuff.
as boring as the LOTR movies were at times geez louise the Hobbit ones absolutely sucked.

I went and saw it last weekend and a couple, maybe late 60's/early 70's stormed out muttering "disgusting" when he started kissing blokes.
I'm not entirely sure what movie they were expecting.
