You could argue that Murphy did exactly the same thing Middleby did (or didn't do).

The common denominator is the real issue, and he is now gone. It would not have mattered who the CEO was at any point of tinkers reign. He was always the one pulling the strings and once the money ran out, it was just one giant PR machine of smokes and mirrors.
My gut-feeling all along has been that Murphy was "parachuted" in by the FFA in preparation for the eventual take-over.
Reckon FFA knew it was enevitable that Tinkler could not meet his obligations so Murphy got put there to get a "feel" for the place and just to go along with the flow, even if he had to tell porky pies about the situation. I may be wrong but it makes a lot of sense also from FFA's viewpoint.
