Let's just hope the coaching staff can implement a structure that can keep us competitive. This year that is best outcome for us, we were never going to be able to challenge or be finals contenders in these first 2 years. if we do (awesome news) it will be an outstanding feat by the coaching staff.

my only concern really is i think something is going on behind the scenes restricting us from signing any players as of yet!
The FFA can't afford for us to fail because they need to sell their product. While they may not go overboard, they certainly won't act in a way to decrease the clubs value any further.

You reckon? Wolves showed pretty clear intent to have an A-League club... if they can't sort shit out in Newcastle, why wouldn't the FFA just **** us off?

I took this stance prior to Woolongong seriously expressing a desire to join the league. As it stands, they can't afford to ditch us because they need 10 teams in a comp.

Damien De Bohun is another one of those tells you what you want to hear and sounds good.

im just getting slightly nervous with the fact that we only have 13 players and there has been no real concrete links to additional players. Every coach would love to have a full squad to work with in pre-season especially for a club the FFA have so strongly indicated they need to succeed. Success will be extremely difficult when the coaching staff only has 4 weeks to inplement structures with full squad.

also what has Pascoe done since he was resigned on an interim basis?

Because Wollongong (like Canberra and Central Coast) at its peak can never match Newcastle at its peak, it doesn't have the same market capability. A Wollongong team in the bottom three after a few years will just be another Mariners, who have only scraped by due to on field success. FFA know deep down that a well managed Newcastle team should be the third or fourth biggest club in the country.

Remember we have had 10,000 despite not making the finals for 5 years - even the Smurfs would struggle to get that.

The only way any player would come to the Newcastle Jets would be if they are offered a lot more [probably double] than the competition is asking or if they cannot get a run anywhere else.
Given the club has no money means the best they can do is sign players no other team is interested in.
It's possible for one or two unwanted players to prove everyone wrong but when you need ten or so like the Jets do we are really clutching at straws.

If the club can get a team together and make it though the season that would be a massive achievement.
To think the club can actually find quality players or even be competitive is a pipedream

As to the notion that the FFA doesn't want to pour more money into the Jets than what is absolutely necessary - you're right. That's what the salary cap is for, and completely absorbed by the monthly grants every club gets.

We already knew a marquee was off the table unless and until new ownership is in place and decides to pump money into said cause/s.

I expect we'll sign atleast 3 recycled players like mate dugandzic who shouldn't be asking for too much. I also expect us to tap into a few of the young Aussies playing overseas that have recently been released such as giancarlo gallifuoco. Then whatever is left spend on 2 or 3 quality players.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get an Aussie loan signing or two from Fulham like Cam Burgess or Ryan Williams

Any local NPL players that could make up some numbers and do a job?
Wouldn't be a bad option if we can't find quality anywhere else and have a few spots to fill.

Yes, we should be aiming much higher, but we are getting pretty close now and we are struggling to fill the bench.

    1. Mark Birighitti - 15/16
    2. Nigel Boogaard - 17/18
    5. Ben Kantarovski - 15/16
    7. Enver Alivodic - 15/16
    10. Andy Brennan - 16/17
    11. Radan Pavicevic - 16/17
    13. Themba Muata-Marlow 16/17
    15. Josh Baressi - 15/16
    19. Mitch Cooper - 16/17
    20. Ben Kennedy - 16/17
    21. Daniel Mullen - 16/17
    22. Lee Ki-Je - 16/17
    23. David Carney - 15/16
    25. Brandon Lundy - 15/16

Would be confident if we had 2 quality Midfielders and 15 Goal a Season Striker. A lot of youth in the squad though, gives Miller the chance to build. Can't understand the negativity towards him from some. There has only been positives since FFA took over.

I agree, I just think atleast one of those quality midfielders or striker could of been signed and presented by now.

Hugo Rodallega is on the look out for a new Club, Miller has worked with him before, his only 29. It might take Marque type money to get him out here but come on FFA show us how "committed" you are to the Hunter region.

I don't buy this hole the FFA won't spend extra money on us as that would be extra cost for the new owners crap, Wanderers got Shinji and I could be wrong but if memory serves me correctly when they had Adelaide they were in discussions with Flores before he went to Melbourne. So I'm not buying this new owners might not want a marque bs, if FFA are serious about being "committed" to the Hunter then show us the money.

I don't think they have ruled a marquee out yet definitively. I think it would depend on the player and how convincing murphy would be at selling the idea.
Also depend on the new owners they hope to have in charge by season start

Hugo Rodallega would own A league defenders.

I don't think the Jets have a hope in hell of signing him but if they did I'd be putting money on him for the golden boot.

Hold your money until you see the midfield behind him
