I'm pretty sure i've read somewhere on these forums about a guy who always says that if we aren't aiming for the top 4 then we should fold the club. I wonder if that person thinks that this squad and coach are top 4 quality yet?

But seriously. No one should be truly unhappy as we are improved from last year and sometimes play football that is exciting (not always enjoyable but exciting).
By the same token no one should be truly happy until we have achieved slightly more than 1 loss away from being outside the 6.

We still have many problems but Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was London, Paris, Wichita, Reykjavik, Pyongyang or basically any other city/town. That is a dumb saying.

tbh that should be our bare minimum expectations for paying money to go see them play. They're professional footballers getting paid a decent amount of coin - "trying" hard is the floor not the benchmark.

I agree we should be top 4

I though not holding the current coach responsible for it.

He inherited this cluster**** of a side 3 weeks before the season and has had zero transfer input so far.

What he has done is shown that he can create something positive with the resources he has at his disposal.

I am interested in seeing how he goes when he has a full pre season and some signings of his choice to work with.

To expect the bloke to polish a steam pile of dog turd into a top 4 side is expecting miracles.

This isnt a top 4 side yet. But I aint seeing any reason why we cant become one next season

Hearing the Jets are signing a 28 year old Right Midfielder from Adelaide City, Joel Allwright. Has been on trial the past week, so he must have impressed.

I'm assuming he'll replace Brennan as the mature age rookie, being plucked straight outta SA state league ranks and all (has he ever played above that level?), but at 28 he'd have to be a late bloomer to be anything more than a squaddie if not straight out youth league material, couldn't we have looked at the local league for that kinda squad filler?
Life isn't the same without Con... but it can only improve without Tinks...

You've just described Miller's season to a tee, except the cluster**** he was following was ****ing worse than what 'poor Jones' has had to follow. Miller also had the FFA as owners, not a rich Chinese businessman. Miller's signings so far, especially Nabbout, which puzzled most of us at the time, have proven to be quite useful to Jones. I've said it before, I don't want him to fail so I can say I told you so, just stop pretending that he's worked miracles while simultaneously acting like Miller was Stubbins v2 when in reality they've both served up fairly identical results so far.

On another day, Perth would have killed us. Castro missed a sitter, and hit the bar two other times, Taggart should have scored if it wasn't for Duncan, and our penalty was a gift. I don't remember too many instance where we seriously threatened their goal.

He played at the 2005 U17 World cup in Peru, and was a NYL player for Adelaide United as well. He just never got a call up into the senior team. So it's not a case of being a late bloomer it's more a case of getting an opportunity.

Do we get to use mature aged rookie outside cap to pay him, assuming Lee puts that up?

A bloke I know who used to be involved with Adelaide City told me he was trialling last week and reckoned he was quite a handy player. He played for them in that NPL finals series against Sydney and seemed to have a pretty strong game. Will be interesting to see how he goes if he gets a chance. Where is he fitting in I wonder, a winger to sit on the bench to replace whichever of the starters (Hoole, Nabbout) is tiring the most? Nabbout in particular seems to fall off in effectiveness late in games so could be a good option.
