Penny Marshall [Laverne and Shirley] passed away today aged 75. She also did well as a director with Big [Tom Hanks] and A League of their Own.
yeah never knew anything of her, but man oh man she was a real trailblazer for successful* womens movie directors.
*from a money standpoint. pretty much they were all terrible movies.
She's had more than few duds in recent times but movies like Big, A League of their Own, and Awakenings will be enjoyed for many years to come.
Big was the first movie directed by a female to make $100m
