This Asian Cup is great and all, don't get me wrong, but I struggle to see how USA wasn't the best choice for 2022 tbh.
OK
I don't actually see what is to be gained at all holding a WC in England.
The code is popular enough anyway there so a WC ain't gonna boost anything there. All the best players play in England in their careers anyway whether that be in the EPL or UCL matches so it ain't like the locals need the opportunity to see the elite players anyway
Agree the USA should wait a bit longer for 2nd crack at it but the reality is sooner or later it will be back in Concacaf and your choices are Mexico who have held it twice Canada the USA and 30 odd other countries far too small to hold it.
Add in the fact the USA is a huge player in World Affairs can see why it would hold interest to get a better foothold for the code in the US landscape
The thing that is also missed in this is even though Qatar is a small nation playing a WC in the Arab world is actually be expanding the game on a far greater scale than somewhere like us who are at the arse end of the world.
Not saying we wouldn't benefit but the Arab region will also benefit and are just as much deserving at holding a WC as anyone else. Unfortunately the criticism of the Qatar decision tends to overlook this and imply that area of the world are not deserving which is ohh so wrong
The other sad state of affairs is that unfortunately with world politics/security etc the way they are there are only a few acceptable locations to hold it in that neck of the woods anyway and FIFA at least chose one of the best options available anyway
i wouldn't say there is anything to be gained out of holding a WC in England but i would say that about Russia as well.
England has all the stadia, training facilities, yada yada all ready to go and it would have come at little to no cost for tax payers.
agree that it will be back in CONCACAF soon. Austalia won't be getting a world cup till 2030 at the earliest

Must admit I took a bit of satisfaction in telling a mate the tickets were sold out when he said on fb this morning something like, "don't normally like soccer but would be keen to see the socceroos, anyone keen?".
Thought Jedinak was abysmal in the first half, didn't notice him much in the second which means he was probably doin his job a bit better but far out, I reckon at least 50% of his short passes in the middle early on were either hospital passes or straight up intercepted, and he missed about his first 5 long balls as well as coming close to being sent with terrible tackling. Bresc was alright besides his shooting but yeah clearly doesn't have the engines to press, doesn't move it quick and can't really dribble either. Only spot for him to start would be as a second holding mid with Luongo in front probably, but Milligan and Jedinak (assuming he remembers how to play) would both be preferred in that role. Agree with whoever said he should come on as a late sub if at all. Milligan did look really good coming on and impressed against Korea as well, was kinda hoping he got subbed on at half time for Jedinak
Hope we don't have that shit a start from here on in.. honkin for at least the first 20, a better team would have made us pay for that especially since our defense has not proved rock solid.
Russia is one of the biggest developing economies on the planet. Even though they were a world power in the USSR days and there lustre faded at the break up of the Soviet Union they are ever so slowly gaining their lustre again. Holding a WC will be a huge boon for their local game who lets face it under achieve something shocking with their NT at Confederation level let alone WC level as well as their clubs sides in the UCL do little also.
Add in the fact it will be the first WC ever for Eastern Europe as the rest have all been held in Western Europe.
I also don't think you are taking into account the hidden benefits of holding a WC which will see reduced barriers and increased trade to the Russian economy removal of stereotypes and perceptions of that neck of the woods as well as a huge boost to Russians who will think they can achieve anything in the world.
The English wouldn't gain **** all in this regard as they are all ready capable (Cricket and their NT withstanding)
New stadiums and facilities leave a legacy to the nation hosting it. Just cause England would not have to invest a pound in this doesn't mean they should host it. The thing comes around every 4 years and governments can get away with spending money on it so take the chance whilst it is available
As for Australia hosting a WC 2030 ain't happening.
Next cab off the rank is China in Asia
Then after that we need to worry about India/Indonesia and new bids from Japan and Korea.
Reality is we will be lucky to see the WC here before 2100 let alone in our lifetimes
Looks like Sepp coming to Sydney for final next week........He is going to be popular![]()

Well Done.
Problem is you plug that many sooner or later your bound to get one right.
I take it there will be no comment though on my claim that Tommy Juric is a poor mans Matt Simon???
I just cringe when I remember how poor his touch and finishing was in Brisbane where he cost us two goals personally a competent player would have taken.
Can't believe anyone rates him
