There are some similarities between Kanta and Jobe's careers. Both showed a lot of potential as teenagers but it seems that every season there was either a prolonged lay-off (Jobe's ankles, Kanta's knees) or niggling injuries which have prevented them both from rarely playing a full season and therefore really cementing themselves as A League players. This is probably Kanta's last chance to take his game to the next level, he needs to stay injury-free and become a mainstay of the first XI otherwise like Jobe he will probably end up back in NPL.

oh man is Kanta really only 23??? jesus it feels like he's been here forever. If it is his body thats failed him thats really sad. Hopefully it is just a coaching adjustment that might inspire him back to his best.
i really want to see him succeed. always seemed like a decent fella and a logical captain.

does anyone know how old Jobe was when he left? and wasn't it more to do with frustration with GVE/Middleby rather than injury?
i always thought he was vastly underrated at our club, and was playing good football right up until he left.

might be remembering things different though.

I think he was about 27...

Didnt he leave because he was captain but was then told by GVE mid-season that he wont be retained, so he spat the dummy (and rightfully so) and quit there and then...?
I could be wrong, but thats what i remember of it

Big difference I have noted about the Jets this pre-season is there have been no player promises or rumours.

Recent years have been dominated by rumours and speculation and promises of players about to sign and lots of names being linked to the club.

This year silence. Sauce has dried up.

Pretty much the first inkling we get of anyone is a day or so before hand when it is really just formalities to finish off.

Still nothing from the club re "No 9 and 10" positions other than they are closing in on 1 and still looking for the other.

While I would like those positions filled (ideally already filled!) I must admit I do like the professionalism of the approach to player recruitment this season compared to any in living memory.

That said I am checking the papers every day hoping for a sniff of something!!

Paul Wanchope. He's been retired for eight years, and has chronic knee problems. On paper that's a tick in every box for a Jets marquee siging.

If it was 2 years ago, I would totally expect that.

I thought he was worth a shot. Especially with the assumption of the small wage he would command.

Good luck to him in his second stint at Sydney

I think burgess was more of a no10 than a wide player. Having cooper and baressi as young 10's and bringing in a visa 10 I think is why he wasn't signed. I agree though, decent prospect.

No offence but from what I have seen of Baressi in the Yoof I see little reason why we have him.

I know he is coming off a serious injury.

But I see little prospect in him moving forward

Muppet signed him to a 2 year deal so we had no choice but to keep him. If he were trialling against Burgess it may've been a different outcome.

Even discounting baressi, probably enough cover there once miller signs the reported foreign 10
