With Foxtel already hedging their bets on the direction of subscription TV with the launch of Presto and the huge amount of money Telstra is pumping into the new Telstra TV device, you have to wonder if they are close to acknowledging the death of subscription TV. Hail be to Presto/Stan/Netflix/Quikflix and some sort of sport streaming that fits with all that.

thing is though, the whole pub and club industry which pays a mint to foxtel for sports access will be fuming - completely different negotiating rights, equipment, payment, organisation etc.

streaming's great when it works, but absolute trash when it doesn't. satellite/dedicated cable delivery (of which there is bugger all) is 100x more consistent.

this is chicken and egg stuff though, the lack of a proper NBN completely confounds the whole system.

Guardian saying exclusive rights for TV, digital and mobile for 3 years.

what did Fox pay for the rights previously? $50m for 3 years doesn't seem that much.

    Q. So, hang on, does that mean the EPL won’t be on Fox Sports?
A: That’s right. No EPL on Fox for the 2016/17 season onwards for three years, unless Optus decide to on-sell the rights. However, that’s very unlikely, given Fox Sports part-owned by Telstra, Optus’ very serious rival.
Q: How will Optus show games?
A: Via a Fetch TV subscription, most likely. For those with Optus on mobile or tablet, via an app.
already too much rubbish on Foxsports this is the clincher for discarding. Their interest in car racing wont help me stay.

might get Bein as the footy kicker instead

If A-League becomes accessible somewhere else, I will definitely be off Foxtel.

Do any of you lot out there have multiple subscriptions to these services?
I only use Foxtel ATM cause pretty much everything is there that I like.
Will def reassess everything with EPL rights moving.

Are Euros next year on bein as well?

foxtel currently cover the costs of production of a-league broadcasts.

HAL doesn't rate that highly. in reality its a lead in to the EPL.

this could be ****ed for the HAL

The flip side to this for A-league is that with less 'content' out there any half decent product becomes even more valuable.
Summer for Foxtel is EPL, A-League and car racing.
They have to show something in those months. Maybe it will make them want A-League even more.

Worked for the V8's they got a big new deal last time around.

also, not to steal Dunster's thunder, but surely having two potential bidders for the A-league (and let's not forget the socceroos either) is a good thing. the game will win but fans may be inconvenienced. we all survived the move from free-to-air to pay.

my big concern is that this is channel 7's revenge (nobody screws soccer like channel 7)

Optus creating their own streaming service which people would have to subscribe to in order to watch the epl on their laptops.

i don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Does anyone watch sports online (and pay for it) ATM?
Foxtel go is great but it's on SD.
Will these new platforms stream live in HD?

No. Don't stream\m and not really wanting to start.

Got FoxSports HD for the EPL. Will seriously consider whether I keep foxtel with this decision.

The technology isn't there yet for foolproof streaming - ffs they can't even get radio right yet (always 30-60 sec behind AM radio).

    CD>>>MP3
    AM Radio >>> streamed radio
    Broadcast HDTV>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>streaming TV

We are so easily fooled - we are sheep.

Doesn't someone on ere pay to stream BeIn? is it you Grimario?

    Do they stream in HD?

just thinking Optus + BeIN for that $30 odd p/month might be ok for all of the Football.

i think Foxtel is costing me $130 a month anyway.
