Central Coast skipper John Hutchinson has ensured his final F3 derby will have a bit more spite, ripping into fierce local rivals the Newcastle Jets for their lack of success in recent years and the treatment of certain players.

In comments which are sure to rile the Jets and their fans, Hutchinson slammed the Hunter club for their treatment of club legend Joel Griffiths and accused them of being in a rebuilding phase for the last five years.

“We’ve proven that we can punch above our weight, obviously this season has been a little bit disappointing, we are trying to make the finals but if we don’t it will only be the third season in 10 that we don’t,” Hutchinson told reporters.

“This club always punches above its weight where if you look at Newcastle, who are meant to have the big community and big club mentality, but I don’t remember the last time they made the finals.

“I’m sure the fans and member up there would be very disappointed in what the club produces year in, year out.

“This season’s been a rebuilding season for us and I know Newcastle has been in a rebuilding phase for the last four years, so we’re going through one at the moment.”

While the Mariners have had their problems this season, it’s nothing on the upheaval at the Jets, who have seen half a dozen players leave the club, including 2008 championship-winner Griffiths.

“Me and Griff [Joel Griffiths] have had some great battles, he gave his heart and soul to the Newcastle Jets and it was sad to see the way he got treated and the way he got pushed out of the club,” Hutchinson said.

“They are trying to move on and trying to make the finals but obviously the fans and members will be disappointed with another poor season.

“I don’t remember who the captain is at the moment, they just turn players over.

“We try to maintain the players here, we move some players on but most of the players we move on go overseas for big money transfers to help the club move forward.

“It’s always been a good club here, you see the young players develop we don’t hold them up, we let them go, we move them overseas and I think that showed in the last Socceroos game where we had four players at one stage starting.”

Hutchinson has long been public enemy No.1 with the Jets fans and his comments will ensure a hot reception at Hunter Stadium on Saturday.

“I’ll be greeted like I’m always greeted but I think that’s because of what we’ve achieved in the past," the Mariners skipper said.

“We’ve got some great young kids coming through who are going to learn what a derby is all about and take it on board for the Mariners.

“The future is bright here, we’ve got some wonderful footballers and I know that Mossy (coach Phil Moss) and Monty (Nick Montgomery) going forward will be great for the club and the young boys coming through.”

Reflecting on his career ahead of his final F3 derby, Hutchinson said: “It’s surreal at times to think that it will come to an end.

“I’ve done this for 19 years in professional football and 10 years with the Mariners and for it to be coming to an end is a but surreal but I am looking forward to the next part of my life and the next part of my career.”

Enter Enver: Alivodić cleared for A-League action

Newcastle Jets today completed the signing of Serbian attacking midfielder Enver Alivodić through to the end of Hyundai A-League season ten.

Alivodić will be available for selection by Phil Stubbins for Saturday’s F3 Derby against Central Coast Mariners at Hunter Stadium.

Jets officials worked through the night to help accelerate the process of attaining Alivodić’s International Transfer Clearance (ITC) in order for him to be available for tomorrow’s match.

Newcastle boss Stubbins said having the 30-year-old available for the important clash against the Phil Moss’s Mariners was a boost for the club.

“Enver has been with us a week now and he’s looking sharper every day,” Stubbins said.

“He’s got the jet-lag out of his body now and given we’re minus Andrew Hoole for tomorrow’s match, there’s every chance we’ll call on him in some capacity to participate in the game.”

“He’s got great ability in wide attacking areas with assists and goals in his locker, so he’s someone that we’re delighted to now have over the line.”

“I have to give a big pat on the back to Nick Deluca (Newcastle Jets Football Operations Manager) for his diligent efforts to expedite Enver’s ITC from Serbia,” he said.

Alivodic has spent the majority of his professional career in the Serbian Superliga, though his move to the Jets is not his first foray abroad to ply his trade. Between 2011 and 2012 Alivodic featured for Cypriot outfit Enosis Neon Paralimni FC.

Alivodic arrives at the Jets from 2014 Serbian Cup winners FK Vojvodina, with whom he played in the UEFA Europa League.

“I am glad to have finally received my clearance,” Alivodic said. “I have played in many derby matches in Serbia for my old clubs, including against Partizan Belgrade and Red Star Belgrade, so I would be very happy to make my debut in an Australian derby.”

“I have been here a week now and I feel sharp,” he said.

Alivodic played his last match in a friendly for Vojvodina in Turkey in January.

On the day Newcastle Jets announced the signing of Serbian attacking midfielder Enver Alivodic until the end of the A-League season, former club captain Joel Griffiths took a parting shot at club owner Nathan Tinkler and coach Phil Stubbins.

Griffiths arrived in Wellington after a major falling out at Newcastle Jets, where he was axed by Tinkler late last month along with skipper Kew Jaliens (now at Melbourne City), David Carney, Adrian Madaschi and Billy Celeski.

"I just had to get out of there to be honest. I still enjoy my football and I wasn't doing that there," Griffiths, who has signed until season's end for the finals-bound Phoenix, told the assembled media at Phoenix training.

"I'm here now and it's good to be back playing football again, be happy and put a smile on my face."

When probed on his feeling toward the Jets - a club he had three spells at during his A-League career - the 35 year-old chose his words carefully.

"I think it's well documented what has happened there. It's a fresh start and one I'm looking forward to," he said.

"I feel fo their fans and they have been going through a tough time but I'm looking forward and here I am."

Things could have been very different for Griffiths had he decided to head west to link up with Perth Glory after his return from China in 2012.

"Perth have been really good. I just didn't see myself being in that side," Griffiths said.

"They've probably been keen on me for the past three years and I've always kncoed them back.

"I feel really bad for Kenny Lowe in that regard but this opportunity came up and hopefully it can be a memorable year."

While Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick praised his new acquisition and his ability to score goals, Griffiths - who is content to play an 'impact role' as he settles in to his new surroundings - was unconcerned by his image as a 'hot head'.

"When you've got kids you have to be a role model for them," he said.

"I do have that white line fever although it's dimmed a little bit. It's part of my game and I don't think I'm going to change."

Although he has not played for a month, Griffiths said he 'feels good' and is keen to contribute - starting with Sunday's trip to Melbourne Victory.

Meanwhile, Jets coach Stubbins is poised to rush 30 year-old wide-man Alivodic into his side for Saturday's F3 derby against Central Coast Mariners with Andrew Hoole and Ben Kantarovski suspended.

"Enver has been with us a week now and he’s looking sharper every day," Stubbins said.

"He’s got the jet-lag out of his body now and given we’re minus Andrew Hoole for tomorrow’s match, there’s every chance we’ll call on him in some capacity to participate in the game.

"He’s got great ability in wide attacking areas with assists and goals in his locker, so he’s someone that we’re delighted to now have over the line."

Alivodic joins Newcastle from 2014 Serbian Cup winner FK Vojvodina, with whom he played in the 20213-2014 UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds.

"I am glad to have finally received my clearance," Alivodic, who last played a game in January, said.

"I have played in many derby matches in Serbia for my old clubs, including against Partizan Belgrade and Red Star Belgrade, so I would be very happy to make my debut in an Australian derby."

TUESDAY marked the seventh anniversary of the Jets’ lone A-League championship success.

February 24, 2008, was a day to remember for Hunter football fans.

Sydney Football Stadium was transformed into a sea of gold as the Jets trumped arch rivals Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in a tense grand final.

A long-suffering and loyal fan sent out a reminder of the Jets’ moment in history on Tuesday under the Twitter handle @newyboys.

The post, ‘‘24.02.2008’’, was succinct but poignant.

It has been five years since the Jets even made it to the finals.

They scraped into sixth in 2009-10 before upsetting Gold Coast United in a penalty shootout then losing 3-1 to Wellington Phoenix in extra time in the minor semi-final.

Every A-League season since has been a ‘‘rebuilding’’ year, accompanied by assurances the club is ‘‘moving forward’’.

Now the Jets are 18 rounds – and one win – into the 2014-15 campaign and the door is revolving again.

See your ad here
‘‘For five years we have not been a team which is at the front of the A-League,’’ coach Phil Stubbins said this week.

‘‘That needs to change, and we have made some decisions on that.’’

This campaign is a write-off.

At best, fans can hope that a win in the F3 derby at Hunter Stadium on Saturday sparks a run of results sufficient to avoid the wooden spoon.

Jets owner Nathan Tinkler, who has fought a battle to hold on to the club, has made it clear that the besieged coach is not going anywhere.

In backing Stubbins, Tinkler said: ‘‘It’s hard to judge a coach when he is forced to take on not just an inherited squad but also an inherited coaching staff.’’

Scenes from the Jets 2008 Grand Final win.
Scenes from the Jets 2008 Grand Final win.

Appointed in May, Stubbins brought in nine new faces and has signed off on the release mid-contract of Connor Chapman, Adam Taggart, Josh Brillante, Ruben Zadkovich, Mitch Oxborrow, Craig Goodwin, Jonny Steele, Mark Birighitti, Marcos Flores, Sam Gallaway, Jeronimo, Kew Jaliens and Joel Griffiths.

David Carney, Billy Celeski and Adrian Madaschi are in the process of finalising exits and will add to a list that also includes support staff Clayton Zane, Neil Young, Michael Bridges and Andrew Packer.

Of the departures, Stubbins was responsible for recruiting Flores, Steele, Jeronimo, Celeski, Madaschi, Young and Packer.

‘‘I have learnt more in the sevens months I have been at the Jets than I have experienced over the course of time anywhere else,’’ Stubbins said this week.’’

Coming to the club in June was ‘‘too late’’ to put a squad together, he said. ‘‘It could be that you need to get players locked in now, certainly Australian players.’’

‘‘You need to get your own team together. In the A-League it needs to be a team akin to the vision and the style of play that you want to bring to the table.

‘‘Kenny Lowe [Perth Glory coach] struggled last year without his team. Now he has turned it around. Josep Gombau, Ernie Merrick ...

‘‘I know the team profile that I want and I know the players I need to fit into that team profile. We need to be more dynamic, that is for sure, and we need to be a lot more effective in the final third.’’

Scenes from the Jets 2008 Grand Final win.
Scenes from the Jets 2008 Grand Final win.

Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski, Jacob Pepper, Scott Neville, Josh Barresi, who has missed the entire campaign due to a knee reconstruction, and Radovan Pavicevic are squad members contracted for next season. Carney also has a contract for next season but is unwanted. Goalkeeper Mark Birighitti has a contract for 2015-16 but is on loan at Italian club Varese.

The others are effectively on audition.

‘‘The way they are going at the moment they are doing themselves no harm,’’ Stubbins said.

Apart from adding Jim Pascoe, Mark Jones and Jess Vanstrattan to the coaching staff, Stubbins’ first step towards the future was the signature of defender Nigel Boogaard on a three-year deal.

He signed Korean defender Lee Ki-je and centre back Daniel Mullen to fill the gaps until the end of the season and has started talking to them about extending their stays.

Serbian winger Enver Alivodic, who makes his club debut against the Mariners, is also contracted to the end of the campaign with a view to the future.

‘‘We are doing things behind the scenes now,’’ Stubbins said.

‘‘Now we have a real base, something we can use as further enticement for further additions to the squad.

"I’m looking forward to our prospects for next year.’’

Yet a 10k Membership base shrinking in half will indicate the fans don't feel this way

Yeah typical half truths from Cockerill.
Definitely some talent in these areas though but FMNC are in the junior NPL at least. Other areas do seem to have been abandoned somewhat by Northern.
Getting a return from these areas should though be secondary to getting things right in the Newy region first.

Aftee last night made it clear he can not play on the left. Several times last night he would get past the defender only to let the defender back goal side so Hoole could put the on his right foot.
I was hopeful that he may change his mind and stay. Now we have 6 games left and he should not be in squad for any of those games, time for Lundy to get some game time.

CHIEF executive Mitchell Murphy is confident Jets players and staff wages will be paid on time this month as work on a plan to refinance the embattled club continues.

Retail giant Gerry Harvey confirmed to the Newcastle Herald on Sunday that he had lent Jets owner Nathan Tinkler $1 million last month.

He said he had not asked why Tinkler needed the money but added: "He could be paying the Jets, wages, interest, solicitors. I've got no idea."

The Jets' finances have been in the spotlight since Football Federation Australia issued Tinkler with a show-cause notice on February 2 over unpaid debts.

A portion of those liabilities have since been paid.

But Tinkler has still not paid an estimated $400,000 in superannuation to Jets players and staff and reportedly also owes the Australian Tax Office about $2 million, prompting the ATO to garnish the monthly grant FFA provides the Newcastle franchise.

Without the FFA grant, worth $2.55 million to every club paid in monthly instalments, the club's ability to pay its players has been stretched to the limit. Players and staff received their monthly wages 48 hours late in February.

Their next pay day is on March 15.

When asked if he envisaged similar dramas paying wages this month, Murphy replied: "No. We have a plan that we have been working on to refinance the club.

See your ad here
"That plan is progressing well, but we are not at the finish line yet.

"Our members and fans can be assured that we have profound attention on resolving those financial obligations. We are in open dialogue with FFA to ensure they know where we are at in that process."

Murphy said the plan was holistic.

"There is no priority ranking," he said. "We want to resolve all our obligations."

Meanwhile, exiled senior players Billy Celeski and Adrian Madaschi are no closer to having their exits finalised.

The former Socceroos were among five players Tinkler declared more than five weeks ago had been sacked.

"It is fair to say I don't see a change in the status quo," Murphy said. "They will continue to train with the squad as per the regulations with the PFA and we will continue to honour their salary on a monthly basis as per the guidelines of payment."

It is a similar situation with David Carney, who, unlike Celeski and Madaschi, has a year to run on his contract.

"His agent is liaising with our football operations manager," Murphy said.
.

Hope I get my flight home next Sunday from Melbourne is the one the team is on.

Might ask a few of them if they have been paid yet. :rof:

BRANDON Lundy left Hunter Sports High in year 10 to work in his father’s tiling business.

In doing so, the winger gave up his place in the school’s elite football program.

Although without access to coaching resources and a competitive environment, Lundy’s desire burned strong.

After work each day he would head to a local oval to train before earning a spot in the Jets youth team.

Impressed by Lundy’s speed and athleticism, then coach Gary van Egmond invited the 16-year-old to train with the A-League squad.

It took the best part of two seasons, but the 18-year-old finally made his A-League debut last weekend, playing nine minutes after coming off the bench in the 1-0 loss to Sydney FC.

‘‘I was excited and a little nervous,’’ Lundy said.

‘‘The nine minutes seemed to be over in a flash, but I felt like I ran a full game because I was that pumped.’’

Lundy, who as a young teenager travelled to Sydney during the week to train with the Football NSW junior program, is the latest in a string of youngsters to be given a chance as the Jets start rebuilding.

See your ad here
Fellow attacker Braedyn Crowley made his debut in the final moments of the 1-1 draw with Wanderers last month, Radovan Pavicevic has six appearances off the bench and defender Nick Cowburn has four, including two starts.

Lundy, who was signed as an apprentice, has a year remaining and Pavicevic recently inked a two-year deal.

The Jets have used 31 players this campaign. With seven games to play, including the trip to Melbourne City on Saturday, the young guns will get more opportunities.

‘‘We want to see them have an impact when they play,’’ Jets coach Phil Stubbins said. ‘‘We know the experience is not with them, and we are trying to provide them with that.

‘‘They have an opportunity between now and the end of the season to showcase that they are a) able to step up, and b) providing those effective outcomes we are in need of.’’

Pavicevic, the youth team player of the year last season, opened his goal-scoring account in the 2-1 loss to Brisbane and has been a threat late in games.

‘‘Radovan has scored goals and looked dangerous,’’ Stubbins said. ‘‘Credit to him, he continually works hard on the track to advance his efforts.

‘‘He is a kid who first and foremost has determination in his game. He is hungry to do well. He needs time to improve and we have given him that.’’

Lundy was close to earning a call-up to the bench last season. This campaign has been hindered by a minor knee issue, but he is now injury free.

‘‘There are setbacks involved for kids,’’ Stubbins said.

‘‘Brandon hadn’t played until we put him on the other night.

‘‘For any kids trying to make it in the game, without handling setbacks they are not going to make it.

‘‘Physically he is a very good specimen. He has speed and can get past and beyond players. It is one thing to do that, but there also needs to be an end product.’’

Lundy, though buoyed by his debut, understands that his spot is far from secure.

‘‘Sometimes it is frustrating, but you just have to bide your time,’’ he said. ‘‘I know I’m young and have time on my hands. The only goal I have is to turn up to training every day and improve.’’
.

Give Gardiner a bit of attention on Twitter asking why Lundy ain't in the team.

Next game he has him playing and then is doing puff pieces on the bloke.

REVIEWING a draft heat policy for the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility is among the first assignments for Northern NSW Football’s new chief medical officer.

NNSWF announced on Tuesday that Dr Ross Cairns had taken on the honorary position, which Football Federation Australia has told all member federations to create.

The appointment came a week after National Premier League coaches and players expressed concern about heat coming off the artificial surfaces at Speers Point during a round of FFA Cup games.

NNSWF chief executive David Eland then rejected suggestions the synthetic pitches could be a factor in injuries.

Eland said on Tuesday that the appointment was not a reaction to the issues and that he had first met with Dr Cairns about the position midway through last year.

‘‘I’ve been talking to Ross for a long time, but unfortunately the process has taken a lot longer than we both had hoped because the FFA’s chief medical officer [Dr Jeff Steinweg] resigned at the back end of last year,’’ Eland said.

‘‘And it just took the FFA some time to appoint their new chief medical officer, Dr Mark Jones.’’

Jones was announced as the FFA head of medical services on August 28 last year.

The directive for member federations to appoint chief medical officers was an initiative of Dr Steinweg, and Eland was pleased to have a local physician to call on for advice.

‘‘I’m not sure where other member federations are up to, but it’s a good appointment for us because he will certainly be a great reference point for us when we start to develop policies,’’ he said.

‘‘Rather than just relying on FFA, we’ll have someone here on the ground who can help us with putting together our policies and procedures.

‘‘He’s currently reviewing the draft heat policy, as an example, and they are the types of policies he will provide guidance on.’’

Dr Cairns is a sports and exercise medicine physician based at Newcastle Sports Medicine and has worked with the Central Coast Mariners, Newcastle Knights, the Australian under-17 soccer team and the Hunter Academy of Sport.

He has been involved with the Special Olympics and the Asian Cup.

‘‘His appointment will also add weight to our elite programs,’’ Eland said. ‘‘He will provide valuable advice on screening for young athletes and injury prevention.’’

Jets - we are what we are: Stubbins
By JAMES GARDINER
March 15, 2015, 9:30 p.m.

EMBATTLED coach Phil Stubbins conceded that the Newcastle Jets had taken a step backwards but maintained there were brighter days ahead for the A-League cellar dwellers.

Describing the listless 4-0 loss to Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Saturday as not up to A-League standard, Stubbins was again left searching for answers.

The defeat was the Jets’ 12th of the campaign and worst since a clean-out of five senior players and four support staff in January.

‘‘You can’t hide behind a performance like that,’’ Stubbins said.

‘‘From start to finish we weren’t at the races.

‘‘We were clearly outplayed by a better team on the day.

‘‘I think that is – since we have made those changes – the first time we have succumbed to a performance that wasn’t worthy of our own expectations.

‘‘It was disappointing.’’

On a lopsided statistics sheet, the Jets failed to carve out a single shot on target.

Had they been playing against a top-four side the scoreline may have been uglier.

As it was, City were playing their third game in a week but still had enough urgency and quality to dispose of the visitors, who were coming off a string of solid results.

Former Jets skipper Kew Jaliens started the rot in the 18th minute when left unmarked from a corner to stroke a half-volley into the roof of the goal.

The Jets hung on until half-time despite having just 34per cent of possession and being on the wrong side of a 9-1 shot and 5-0 corner count.

But once French import Harry Navillo struck two minutes into the second half after shambolic Jets defending, the floodgates opened.

Replacements David Williams (63rd) and Iain Ramsay (88th), who were part of a star-studded bench that included Massimo Murdocca and the unused Erik Paartalu, both profited as the home side breathed life into their play-off hopes.

The heavy defeat – the fifth time this season that the Jets have conceded four goals or more – leaves Newcastle with one win in 21 rounds.

They remain on 11 points alongside Western Sydney, who have a game in hand, but their -29 goal difference is far worse than the Asian Champions (-15).

With six games remaining, including a trip to Parramatta next round, the Jets are on course for the club’s second wooden spoon and worst season in history.

‘‘There are a lot of things on the players’ minds,’’ Stubbins said. ‘‘Is it contracts, is it fatigue? ... There are a lot of things to take into account.

‘‘We had a bad day at the office today, there is no doubt about that. We will regroup and go again.’’

The loss will no doubt increase the pressure on Stubbins, who up to now has had the firm support of owner Nathan Tinkler, and add fuel to the frustration of a disgruntled and diminishing fan base.

‘‘We are what we are,’’ Stubbins said. ‘‘They have Aaron Mooy and Robert Koren in the middle of the park, Josh Kennedy up front, they bring on David Williams and Murdocca and Paartalu are also on the bench.

‘‘With all respect to what we have at the club, we need to invest in a way that we can get ourselves some parity in the contest. The boys who have been working their socks off for the past six weeks were a little short today.

‘‘We need to recognise without the real quality and depth that is needed at the club, it is a hard task to keep backing up week after week.

‘‘There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes with recruitment. The advantage for us is that we have quite a lengthy period before we finalise a squad.

‘‘We have to do it in a way that there is a real diligence surrounding who we bring to the football club.

‘‘Today was a sad day for Newcastle Jets supporters, but in terms of moving forward we are doing everything to make sure there are brighter days ahead.’’

With a core squad of 17 players at present, Stubbins shuffled the deck in a bid to provide a spark.

Andrew Hoole started at the point of the attack in place of Edson Montano, and Ben Kantarovski dropped to the centre of defence in place of Taylor Regan.

‘‘If you are going to do the same thing, the same thing, the same thing and fall short, why not try something different,’’ Stubbins said.

‘‘We tried Hooley in a false nine. It didn’t work how we wanted it too.

‘‘Ben has played there before in the Australian youth set-up. He had a fair shift today.’’

Asked if he would consider recalling exiled trio David Carney, Billy Celeski and Adrian Madaschi, who were sacked by Tinkler in January but continue to train, Stubbins said: ‘‘No. We have been there and discussed that in the past.’’

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/2945941/jets-we-are-what-we-are-stubbins/?cs=306

James Gardiner has been reading the Foz.

‘‘We are what we are,’’ Stubbins said. ‘‘They have Aaron Mooy and Robert Koren in the middle of the park, Josh Kennedy up front, they bring on David Williams and Murdocca and Paartalu are also on the bench.

We are what you've created Phil Stubbins. In the same breath you could also have said "We have Australian International David Carney, Two Johnny Warren medalists in Joel Griffiths and Marcos Flores and former World Cup player Kew Jaliens" except you drove them out of the club.

We need to recognise without the real quality and depth that is needed at the club, it is a hard task to keep backing up week after week.

But wait we still have Madaschi, Celeski and Carney on the books...except

‘‘No. We have been there and discussed that in the past.’’

Which is ridiculous.

‘‘We tried Hooley in a false nine. It didn’t work how we wanted it too.

We've been playing with a false 9 for weeks Phil Stubbins. Montano has been so isolated we may as well have not had him on the park. And finally

‘‘Today was a sad day for Newcastle Jets supporters’’

Not just today Phil Stubbins, but the entire season.

Not so much annoyed about the excuse, but look at the reasoning behind it. Is it a stab at the coaches he let go? Is it because the new strengthening team are building their fitness? Is it because, as Phil says, we have such little depth across the squad that we can't afford a rotation or two a week? I'm thinking it s result of no squad depth caused by the sackings of key players.

I think he is just looking for excuses.

The convenient one is to say, "Oh we have a small squad everyone is fatigued due to that", forgetting of course why we have a small squad and the fact we have Celeski, Madaschi and Carney exiled but still available.

He is just looking for any justification for his failures that don't involve him.

He should have been a politician; says things people want to here and deflects the blame. I noticed he did have some support from some sheep supporters on The Herald's Disqus but even that seems to have eroded away in the last couple of weeks.....he only has 1 fan!!!

I wonder if the delay was because the 15th was a Sunday and that it went in overnight and this is the Herald looking for a story which is simply convenient. However I get paid monthly on the 15th and mine went in Friday night. Anyone else who gets paid monthly care to contribute?

That's what's in the article, pretty much. Last month the excuse was "15th was Sunday" and given that Feb is 28 days, 15th was always going to be a Sunday this month as well.

In no way am I defending them, but I don't know if we have all the facts.

If the players are paid by the FFA grant, when is that transferred to the Jets? How closely is the business running hand-to-mouth that it can't afford to pay the wages without the grant? That's certainly not an ideal situation for any business.

I continue to think this is simply a matter of the herald pushing a "convenient" story. But Murphy will be judged by his actions and from the appearances, he hasn't passed this one.

I certainly feel for the players and the staff. I'd be pissed off if I were in that situation.

My understanding is that the ATO has cesed the FFA grants and Tinkler has to pay the players from his own pocket.
However this instance does seem to be storm in a teapot as it seems it's just a banking issue.

Perhaps the same banking issue that occurred last month?

In the means of being fair, the club would have been aware the ATO order still exists and the grant would have been seized then planning should have been in place to pay the players and staff on time.

Mitchell Murphy on ABC this morning, some of the usual smoke and mirrors but a few interesting points...and a few veiled swipes at previous management. Missed the first few minutes which would have touched on the pay issues.

* Tinklers external financial issues are separate to those of the Jets organisation - Murphy is not involved with other Tinkler dealings.
* Phil Stubbins was not responsible for "most" of the squad - he will be given the opportunity to build his own squad from scratch.
* The club has a culture of poor decision making based on "knee-jerk reactions" to media stories.
* We are in a major long term rebuild of the club.
* The club is in serious negitiations with new players for next season, with top quality strikers and a creative midfielder the main targets.
* Murphy has sought counsel with several sports CEOs around the country.
* The club needs to reconnect with the community, starting with formally introducing all of the Emerging Jets to the crowd next match.
* Murphy has regular contact with the FFA executive, some he has known personally since his VPL days.
* Some fluff about how brave the squad has been recently, being under-staffed etc and that last Saturday was "disappointing".

That was the crux of it - discuss.

That then creates an issue where if he is sacked we are back to square 1 where we have a squad that the new coach doesn't want.

What utter bullshit from Murphy, leaving the entire Stubbins/squad argument to the side as we all know he had a hand in signing one of our greatest ever recruits in Welsh and funny how so many of our recruits after he signed had played for adelaide, hell even our one new recruit is coming from where?

The fact that the tax office has the garnishee order in place and the jets via tinkler have to pay their players using Gerry Harvey's credit card says a lot about how separate Tinklers troubles are, Murphy is just the new Middleby, the local sales rep for the Singapore bullshit factory.

Can't wait for the next loss, and the next and the next, its the only hope I have now that FFA will eventually get involved.

Can't wait for another season of Stubbins logic and tactics, he can complain about his squad all he wants but the fact is he controls game day tactics, and they have been lacking in every regard for months. He controls game day subs and they have never been so negative, we legit start out hoping for a draw, then go into desperation mode once that is gone.

Wages put heat on Tinkler
By ROBERT DILLON
March 18, 2015, 9:45 p.m.

NEWCASTLE Jets players finally received their monthly wages on Wednesday as the scrutiny surrounding owner Nathan Tinkler escalated.

Newcastle’s players were paid 48 hours late for the second consecutive month.

They are supposed to be paid on the 15th of every month, or if that falls on a weekend, the following Monday.

But, as was the case in February, their March pay was delayed by two days after the club encountered what Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy described as ‘‘an internal cash-flow matter’’.

The embarrassing situation, which has angered Newcastle’s players and the Professional Footballers Association, has again raised the question of whether Tinkler has the funds to keep bankrolling the Jets.

Billionaire Gerry Harvey loaned Tinkler $1million last month, and Tinkler reportedly put the money into the Jets.

But an estimated $400,000 in unpaid superannuation to Jets players and staff, dating back more than a year, remains outstanding.

Sacked assistant coach Clayton Zane is understood to be yet to receive a pay-out, while unwanted former Socceroo David Carney is also waiting for the club to produce an offer that convinces him to terminate the final season of his contract.

The next month could determine if Tinkler can pay the players on April 15.

The one-time billionaire is facing a series of legal battles involving creditors, starting next week.

The Jets face a wind-up application by IT provider Reddog Technology that is due back in the Sydney Supreme Court on Monday.

Tinkler, his former confidant Troy Palmer and Patinack chief financial officer Tony Marshall are then expected to appear in the Adelaide Supreme Court next week to answer questions about a $4.7million debt owed to the Australian Tax Office.

Ashurst Australia lawyers are also trying to liquidate Tinkler Group Holdings Administration. The matter will be heard on March 31.

And last week US-based investment bank Jefferies Group lodged seven more wind-up applications aimed at liquidating Patinack Farm and its associated companies.

Behind the scenes there is mounting concern inside Football Federation Australia headquarters that the game’s governing body will have to intervene and remove Tinkler as Jets owner, just as the NRL ousted him from the Newcastle Knights in June.

Not for the first time, FFA chief executive David Gallop has warned Tinkler he needs to honour his commitments.

Gallop was quoted in News Limited publications on Wednesday saying: “The position remains pretty simple: If a current owner pays the bills, he will be the owner of the club. And if he doesn’t, he won’t be.

“There’s no question that not paying the players is a clear indication the owner can’t meet his obligations, and we would move quickly in that environment.’

He made millionaires out of retail store managers.

Still to this day he does a lot of face to face business with the 'little people' (my words not his) in his organisation and gets on very well with likeminded people and is quite flippant about others who are not.

nah.
The Ireland thing is to do with his campaign to have the same GST rules for Australian businesses as there is for overseas businesses importing good under $1000 into Oz.
He wanted the same rules for everyone, the govt said no, so he based his website out of there in order to level the playing field.

He was also very public in his reasons for doing so.

How disrespectful. How completely and utterly disrespectful.

sammydog
21-03-2015, 03:28 PM
This quote to me is bullshit.

But Stubbins said the situation had been discussed at training this week and there was no sign of ill feeling.

‘‘If I’m judging it from training, there’s no reason for me to say or feel that it’s been anything than what it was, and we’ve dealt with that,’’ he said.

‘‘In terms of has it affected the players, I’d say no . . . the subject’s been broached and paid, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s over and I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow.’’

Of course no player is going to voice an issue or show ill feeling.

He sucked the senior players for raising an issue and has created a club culture and environment where players are scared to speak up for fear of being sacked or ostracised.

The more he speaks, the more it is clear that Stubbins has no idea. No idea on football, tactics, and player management. Sadly, he is even more devoid of class.

I can't see the FFA getting rid of us, they would know that merging the Jets and CCM would be a massive cluster **** that wouldn't be supported, particularly when you split games between two venues. I also can't see them getting rid of the Mariners.

From the sounds of that they are talking to at least two possible teams, its been no secret the FFA want 12 teams going into the new deal. They are probably courting more, the ones referenced just have an NRL connection which is why they were reported.

I'm not to concerned about the Jets being scrapped as a team.

If the FFA can convince Marwan Koukash to buy the GC licence as well as the Titans, they could be a goer.

When the league goes to 12 teams, play everyone twice = 22 Rounds, not long enough season.

Would have to have 2 conferences, maybe something like

Sydney FC
Wanderers
Newcastle
Central Coast
Brisbane
New Sydney?

Perth
Adelaide
Victory
City
Phoenix
New Melbourne?

Play everyone twice and your conference teams 3 times.

22 + 5 Conference games = 27 games

Could even revamp the finals system, top 3 from each conference go through.

The way I see it, there's only two options for expansion that are actually viable: Wollongong (not Southern Sydney) & South Melbourne.

The ideal is to have Wollongong & Canberra but Canberra won't be able to maintain the interest, money, everything needed to last the distance IMO.

Other than those 2/3 options ^ I don't see any other legit place in Australia for expansion.

The FFA are desperate to get 2 more teams in before the new TV deal. They'll try really hard on Southern Sydney and Canberra, and they'll both IMO fail, and the "safe" options for the FFA are Wollongong and South Melbourne. And it'll pain the FFA so freaking much to allow effniks back in :rof:

That "conference" idea has been tried by both the NSL and NRL ending in failure - some teams played each other three times, some once and the draw had no sense.

1984–1986: Conference system and power shift

Shrinking crowds led to the radical move of introducing more teams (mainly from Victoria and New South Wales) and splitting the league into two conferences, with the winner of each division to play off in an end of year two legged final. For season 1984 the 'Australian' Conference had competing teams from New South Wales and the ACT, whilst the 'National' Conference consisted of Victorian, South Australian and Queensland clubs. For 1985 and 1986 this reverted to 'Northern' and 'Southern' Conferences. Strangely, the competition's most geographically northern sides, Brisbane Lions and Brisbane City were in the latter grouping.

This period saw South Melbourne become the first Victorian team to win the league, followed by Brunswick Juventus, and Adelaide City, all Southern conference sides. At the end of the 1986 season, the system was scrapped, and about half the teams were dumped back to their respective state leagues. The criteria used to decide who stayed and who went was based 50% on the 1986 playing record, 40% on past playing record, and 10% on crowd support.[14] The result was that only one team from outside Sydney and Melbourne, reigning champions Adelaide City, was retained.

And I remember Rosebud being relegated after coming fifth or sixth due to those stupid rules.

Keep it simple - 11 x 3 = 33

What I see as a huge problem with these sackings and Carney's case is it's obvious the only reason they're not "mutually terminating" Carney is because he has an extra year to run on his contract. Having a guess, that'd say to me that Tinkler will never again sign anyone for more than one season - as he'll want his players to be disposable if given the chance. Not only will this be frustrating as we won't be able to tie players down long-term, but I daresay it'll make it difficult when negotiating for incoming players.

Although in saying all that, they DID sign Boogard until the end of 17/18 :rof:
