“While the club and FLIGHT CENTRE will share benefits from this partnership, there are some key components that have been included specifically for Jets Members. These will be outlined closer to the start of Hyundai A-League season 11, though the very nature of FLIGHT CENTRE’s business should give some hint as to what lucky Members may be in for.”
"lucky" members
i hope thats a general term, not that juts one or two lucky members get some good from this.
In the Newcastle Jets fan catchment, FLIGHT CENTRE possesses an impressive 24 centres. Indeed, Jets supporters can score great holiday and travel deals in Hamilton, Charlestown, Glendale, Kotara, Warners Bay, The Junction, Newcastle (two stores), Jesmond, Raymond Terrace, Salamander Bay, Singleton, Cessnock, Cardiff, Morisset, Belmont, Toronto, Coffs Harbour, Forster, Grafton, Port Macquarie, Settlement City, Taree, and Toormina.
I know this is largley PR spin, but I take heart from this that they are starting realise the club represents the greater region of NNSW

Scott Neville happy to leave unstable Jets
By JAMES GARDINER
June 9, 2015, 9:45 p.m.
SCOTT Neville cited uncertainty at the Jets and a chance to work under Tony Popovic as the determining factors in his decision to join Western Sydney.
The 26-year-old right fullback has signed a two-year contract with the Asian champions and is set to be joined by home-grown midfielder Jacob Pepper.
Both were among 16 players offered like-for-like contracts by Football Federation Australia after it took control of the club from Nathan Tinkler on May 20.
Italian-based goalkeeper Mark Birighitti was also contracted to the end of next season but told the Herald last week that he intends to stay in Europe.
The trio’s exit leaves the Jets with 13 players on their roster less than two weeks from the start of pre-season training on June 22.
The FFA is in the process of appointing a new head coach and support staff after Phil Stubbins was let go a fortnight ago.
Talks with Mark Rudan broke down over contractual guarantees and a potential settlement should a new owner take control of the club and want to bring in their own coach.
However, the Herald understands that the door has not been totally closed on the Fox Sports analyst.
Former Socceroos striker Damian Mori is also believed to be among a handful of contenders.
The other nine clubs have coaches and are advanced in recruitment for next season.
FFA is committed to filling the Jets position before the start of pre-season but insists appointing the right person is the priority.
Neville said the uncertainty had played a part in his decision.
‘‘I was holding off to see who was going to be signed as coach,’’ Neville said. ‘‘Then I spoke to Tony Popovic and couldn’t really say no to what he had to say and the way the club is going.
‘‘I’m not even sure who will be coach at Newcastle. Everything that happened last year left a sour taste in a lot of boys’ mouths.
‘‘I had not been paid super for the three years I was there.
‘‘There was no stability.
‘‘So many good people came and went. You didn’t know where you stood at the club and if you were next.
‘‘I need to be challenged again, and I think Tony Popovic and the Western Sydney Wanderers is the perfect place for that.’’
Neville, who played 43 games in three seasons at the Jets, was almost lured to Wanderers before signing a two-year extension with Newcastle at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.
‘‘It was tough to say no to Tony Popovic back then, but I was happy at the Jets,’’ he said. ‘‘When he called this time, the way he conducted himself, the size of Western Sydney, how professional they are and the way they train.
‘‘Also, speaking to other people about Tony Popovic, I couldn’t say no again. Being a defender and him being a defender, I want to learn as much as I can off someone who has that much experience.’’
Home-grown centre back Nigel Boogaard, once-exiled former Socceroo David Carney and imports Lee Ki-je and Enver Alivodic head the list of players to recommit to the Jets.
Boogaard, who agreed mid-season to switch from Adelaide to Newcastle, said the number of players to carry over their contracts was a show of faith.
‘‘It’s certainly encouraging to see that so many boys have committed given they had the opportunity to go elsewhere,’’ Boogaard said.
Pepper, 23, a Merewether junior, is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Wanderers on Wednesday.
His exit with Neville could open the way for Nick Cowburn to win a senior contract.

Pascoe slots into overseeing role
By JOSH LEESON
June 11, 2015, 9:28 p.m.
IF there has been one winner in the shambolic six months the Jets have endured, it is James Pascoe.
On Thursday the former youth and assistant coach was named as the club's interim football manager to help oversee the A-League club's rebirth under the ownership of Football Federation Australia.
Pascoe has been appointed for six weeks but could be a permanent fixture if endorsed by the future coach.
Last month, when Nathan Tinkler still owned the club, Football Queensland chief operating officer Ben Mannion was unveiled as the Jets' general manager of football operations.
At the time Mannion was spruiked as a "first-rate sporting administrator" and a "major coup" by Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy.
The FFA's takeover of the Jets began before Mannion's planned starting date last week.
It is understood FFA offered the role to Mannion on a significantly lower salary.
Pascoe began his new role on Wednesday, and it includes helping to plan and develop the team's pre-season campaign and player recruitment.
The A-League's head of football, Damien de Bohun, said the former Hunter Sports High teacher's local knowledge was essential in helping the Jets re-engage with the wider Hunter community.
"I think that's a really important statement from us that there's some really good people within the club who understand the landscape, who understand football in Australia, and it's another step in the right direction," de Bohun said.
"James has a range of experience. Firstly, he knows this city like no one else.
"Obviously he's born and bred here and committed to football."
In January, Pascoe was the sole survivor of Tinkler's cleanout of former coach Phil Stubbins' support staff.
Assistant Clayton Zane, trainer Andrew Packer and goalkeeping coach Neil Young were all sacked after a failed player coup. Assistant Michael Bridges quit soon after in protest over the handling of the saga.
Pascoe was promoted to Stubbins' assistant coach, along with Mark Jones, and the pair were widely credited with restoring some structure to the eventual wooden spooners.
When FFA seized control of the Jets then terminated Stubbins' contract two weeks ago, Pascoe announced his desire to contribute to the club's rejuvenation.
"Jonesy and I are both passionate Newcastle people and products of the community that the FFA wants to re-engage," Pascoe said at the time.
"We have proved that we are more than capable of providing a service to make the team competitive.
"We are so close to having a roster that allows us to be competitive from the get-go."
I disagree, James. You have not proven yourself to be capable of providing a service to make a team competitive. The team still failed to score more than a goal a game and still conceded greater than 1.5 goals per game.
As for the roster...don't get me started. There is 1 addition from that of last year and at the time there were 10 positions on the roster to fill.

One of the best story's in the aftermath of the sackings that I heard was when training resumed and Pascoe turned up to run the session.
Apparently Jeronimo in his heavy Spanish accent gave Pascoe an absolute spray...."Who the fark are you??? Fark off!!!"
This was obviously in response to word getting around that he had flown up with Muppet to report to Tinkler on the "mutiny".
Zane has absolutley no time for him whatsoever either, so it would now seem that Zane will definitely not have any involvement with the club, at least while Pascoe remains as Football manager.
Removing Stubbins and keeping Pascoe is like getting rid of Hitler and leaving Goebbels, and saying we are now starting afresh!

From the Herald, another coaching contender.
http://www.theherald.com.au/story/3144044/is-this-anges-jets-coach/?cs=305
SCOTT Miller may not be a familiar name to A-League fans, but the Melbourne-born former Fulham assistant has emerged as a contender to coach the Newcastle Jets.
The 33-year-old has spent the past seven years at the Premier League and now Championship club and has been a member of Ange Postecoglou's backroom staff at the Socceroos, who are in camp in Dubai ahead of their opening World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan. Miller is not part of the current national set-up, but he is in Dubai.
Miller has a UEFA A licence as well as sports science and psychology degrees and was head coach of the under-21 side at Fulham, where former Jets golden boot Adam Taggart now plays.
Last year he was reportedly offered the assistant coach's role at Premier League Newcastle United, but the deal fell through, and it is believed he set his sights on an A-League coaching job.
Fulham confirmed on June 1 that Miller had left the club to "pursue other opportunities".
Postecoglou heads an FFA coaching panel in charge of appointing the new Jets coach.
Miller - not to be mistaken for the former Perth Glory midfielder of the same name - joined Fulham in 2007 as a strength and conditioning coach and has filled a variety of roles, including first-team assistant coach.
Postecoglou brought Miller in for his first camp in charge of the Socceroos in 2013 after axing incumbent conditioning coach Robbie Hooker.
During his time in West London, Miller has worked under current England boss Roy Hodgson, Mark Hughes, Martin Jol, Rene Muelensteen and Felix Magath.
The Jets have been without a coach since Phil Stubbins was let go after Football Federation Australia took over the club from Nathan Tinkler.
Fox Sports analyst Mark Rudan had been the leading candidate, but the Herald understands that negotiations between the former Sydney FC defender and FFA broke down last week.
According to sources, the sticking point involved contractual guarantees and a potential settlement should a new owner take control of the club and want to bring in their own coach.
Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy was confident a coach would be on the ground by the end of the month.
In the meantime, Murphy has been compiling a dossier of potential playing recruits for the new coach.
The Jets have 11 places available on their roster, including three visa spots, after Scott Neville and Jacob Pepper left this week for Western Sydney.
‘‘The most important point to make from the outset is that the head coach will select all the remaining spots on the roster,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘I have been active in staying in close contact with a wide variety of player agents.
‘‘There is a lot of interest from a a lot of players available on the market to join us.
‘‘But quite rightly they want to know who the head coach is.
‘‘I’m not concerned about us missing out on good-quality players who are free agents.
‘‘Furthermore, there are several players who may come on the market who are contracted at A-League clubs but may be able to secure releases due to salary-cap pressure at their clubs.
‘‘There is certainly enough depth and quality domestically for the head coach to have a wide variety of choice.’’
A-League clubs are permitted five overseas players.
The Jets have Serbian winger Enver Alivodic and Korean defender Lee Ki-je, but Murphy said at this stage they were looking at adding only one more import.
‘‘Even though the budget is tight, we will have leeway to sign another visa player,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘It will probably be one, but it’s very fluid.
‘‘You might be able to pick up a visa player at the right price due to circumstances in their current environment.’’
Stubbins spent a fortnight in Europe on a scouting mission before the FFA took control.
Murphy said that information would be passed on to the new coach.
‘‘I was aware of the players Phil was looking at,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘We have retained that intelligence and will hand it over in a dossier for the head coach to review.’’

Why only use 1 more VISA spot? Hopefully it would be a top line Marquee player. Look at the Melbournes and Sydneys, they use all 5 spots and more often than not they all start.
I'm worried they won't be able to fill the remaining 10 roster spots with Australians that are up to scratch.

The Newcastle Herald understands that home-grown coaches Mark Jones and Clayton Zane are being considered for positions on the support staff.
Miller, at 33, will become the youngest head coach in the history of the A-League.
He has a UEFA Alicence as well as sports science and psychology degrees and was head coach of the under-21 side at Fulham, where former Jets golden boot Adam Taggart now plays.
Miller joined the Premier League and now Championship club in 2007 and was a member of Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff at the Socceroos in 2013.
Postecoglou headed the FFA coaching panel in charge of appointing the new Jets coach.
Initially a strength and conditioning coach, Miller has filled a variety of roles at Craven Cottage and has worked under current England boss Roy Hodgson, Mark Hughes, Martin Jol, Rene Muelensteen and Felix Magath.
De Marigny, 51, returns for a second stint in Newcastle.
He coached the Jets for their inaugural game, a World Club Challenge qualifier against Central Coast, before assisting Englishman Richard Money in the maiden season of the A-League.
De Marigny joined Victory in 2013 as an assistant for Kevin Muscat’s first season in charge.
He spent two years in the Victorian capital and was instrumental in the Victory’s 2014-15 championship success.
The Jets have been without a coach since Phil Stubbins was let go after Football Federation Australia took over the club from Nathan Tinkler last month.
Fox Sports analyst Mark Rudan and former Socceroos striker Damian Mori had been linked to the position.
The Jets assemble for pre-season training on Monday and have 13 senior players on the roster.
Miller and De Marigny are expected to join Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy and A-League boss Damien De Bohun at a members forum at Newcastle Panthers on Thursday night.
The forum follows a meeting of business leaders last week.
‘‘The No.1 emphasis of the forum is for us is to listen, not preach,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘We want to hear what they’ve got to say and answer the members’ questions.
‘‘We want to engage in conversation on a variety of topics that we expect to come up, and do a lot of listening.
‘‘At the end of the day this is a new beginning for the club and it’s a wonderful opportunity to set the right foundation.
‘‘The backbone of the club is the membership base.
‘‘It’s going to be an easier journey with them totally engaged and feeling like they’re an integral part of what our future plans are.’’

Details of Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson’s involvement in plans to save a beleaguered Australian club could become clearer later this week.
For months now, Thompson has been linked with a rescue mission to resurrect the Hyundai A League outfit Newcastle Jets.
They are being run by Aussie football authorities after their owner, mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, was stripped of his football licence last month because of unpaid debts.
Since then, Thompson is understood to have been in detailed discussion to help get the Jets back on their feet.
While that’s been happening, Football Federation Australia have been ploughing ahead with work to make sure there is a team in place for next season.
They’ve appointed a head coach and re-signed most of last year’s squad.
But they need help with the running of the club in the long term and view Thompson’s experience with United as an important part of that. What they don’t appear to be looking for is a new outright owner.
They’ve been carrying out a series of meetings with the football community in Newcastle in a bid to get them involved in what would effectively be a reborn club.
On Wednesday, they plan to hold a final community forum to seek the views of the various interested parties.
It’s in the days after that details of the new structure could be announced.
Confidentially agreements mean Thompson cannot comment but he has repeatedly stressed United will remain his No 1 priority.
To that end, he has been in close contact with manager Jackie McNamara, despite him being on a break last week, in a bid to get done as much of the Tangerines’ transfer business as possible in time for the players reporting back for pre-season training early next month.
United are in the market for a goalkeeper, a centre-half and, with the news Calum Butcher is on the verge of returning south, a midfielder.
Ideally, gaffer Jackie McNamara would like his new faces in by the time United head to the Netherlands on July 9 for a week-long stay and games against Vitesse Arnhem the following day and FC Utrecht on July 16.

Nathan Tinker missed Jets payments
By JAMES GARDINER
AN adminstrator's report has shed light on the amount of money Nathan Tinkler outlaid when he took over the Newcastle Jets in 2010.
Tinkler has often stated that he paid $5 million to buy the A-League club when he took over from the financially embattled Con Constantine.
That figure formed the basis of the $5 million price tag he put on the club a year ago before performing a backflip and taking it off the market.
However, a detailed history of the transaction obtained by the Herald shows Tinkler only partly paid for the club before attempting to hand back his A-League licence in 2012.
The records show that on September 22, 2010, after the exit of Constantine, Tinkler entered a club participation agreement with Football Federation Australia in which he was required to pay an acquisition fee of $3.5 million and a licence fee of $1 million.
The money was to be paid in instalments over 4½ years, starting with an initial payment of $500,000 on the execution of the agreement.
But insolvency experts Shaw-Gidley, in an administrator's report after Tinkler placed the club into voluntary administration, found the mining magnate failed to meet those payments, with the exception of the first $500,000.
On June 30, 2011, with Tinkler $1.5 million in arrears, the FFA began withholding a $100,000 monthly grant as part settlement.
In February 2012, Tinkler, through Hunter Sports Group, alleged he had been overcharged after former A-League boss Archie Fraser revealed in the Herald that an acquisition fee had not been part of negotiations in previous club sales.
See your ad here
On April 10, Tinkler moved to return the A-League licence to the FFA, two years into a 10-year agreement, and sought compensation in respect to the licence and acquisition fees he had paid.
The governing body countered with the threat of a lawsuit and a $100 million damages claim.
The dispute was resolved after a meeting between Tinkler and FFA chairman Frank Lowy in a Brisbane airport hangar on May 1.
Financial details of the meeting, which included an agreed settlement to former Jets marquee Jason Culina after he was sacked a year into a three-year, $2.65 million contract, were confidential.
It is widely understood that Tinkler's initial buy-in figure of $4.5 million was reduced.
In a television interview a fortnight after the Brisbane meeting Lowy, said: "I flew to Brisbane, where he was working, and I met him and we sorted it out.
"I think life is about compromise.
"He had a beef about certain things and, of course, I compromised and he was happy that I got there."
It is unclear if the agreed amount has been settled in full.
So Tinks in actual fact only paid $500k of the total $4.5 million ($3.5 mill acquisition fee and $1 mill licence fee) to acquire the Jets!!!
Okay the first year he made the payment, second year doesn't make the payment FFA you would think should be asking "Please explain"
Third year of non-payment the licence should have been taken off him but FFA allowed this bullshit to drag on for yet another season!!!
Okay it's happened and it's in the past now and FFA finally stepped in but they bloody-well owe it to the football community of this region that they get the ownership structure 100% right this time.
Makes one also think what was Middleby doing these past few years in his position as CEO???
How could he turn a blind-eye to these non-payments and pretend all was hunky-dory with the club???
If he at least had the balls to resign a year or two ago and tell the truth with what was going on at the club, supporters and players/staff would not had to have endured the "season from hell".
Has a lot to answer for, Middleby and in my opinion has got off very very lightly in the aftermath of the demise of Tinkler's reign!!!

Wasn't hating on him compared to Stubby. I just wanted him to realise that he was incompetent and had no experience of running a successful club and resign. Nothing personal against the guy, just didn't think he was the right guy to be running our club.
Muppet on the other hand, that was personal as soon as he sacked Griffo.

Why is Murphy not in the same boat?
He presided over Stubbins retention, he did nothing (as middleby allegedly did) while the club was run into the ground and payments not made, he came out publicly and kept giving the equivalent of "the cheques in the mail".
You could argue that Murphy did exactly the same thing Middleby did (or didn't do).
The common denominator is the real issue, and he is now gone. It would not have mattered who the CEO was at any point of tinkers reign. He was always the one pulling the strings and once the money ran out, it was just one giant PR machine of smokes and mirrors.
Tinkler was the biggest **** of all. Where are his bum boys now????

My gut-feeling all along has been that Murphy was "parachuted" in by the FFA in preparation for the eventual take-over.
Reckon FFA knew it was enevitable that Tinkler could not meet his obligations so Murphy got put there to get a "feel" for the place and just to go along with the flow, even if he had to tell porky pies about the situation. I may be wrong but it makes a lot of sense also from FFA's viewpoint.

I'm with you Stopper2. There was a lot of pressure from the FFA on tinkler to make an appointment. Given Murphy's involvement with FFV it's not unreasonable to think the FFA have said "here's a bloke, interview him for the role to sort yourselves out"

Agree - there is strong word on the grapevine that Murphy was a "plant" and the FFA called Tinks bluff with Murph being a standout candidate.
The fact he is carrying on so passionately and his job is not under threat suggests this is very possible.

There you go. Beechwood announced
Dear Jeterpool,
Newcastle Jets today continued it’s off field rebuild ahead of Hyundai A-League season 11 with the signing of Beechwood Homes as a Principal Partner.
An established name in the Australian home building industry and a company with long ties to the Hunter Valley, Beechwood Homes will appear on the front of the Jets’ home jerseys throughout the 2015-16 A-League campaign.
The deal comes as a major boost for the club as the Jets continue to restructure and revitalise its operations.
Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mitchell Murphy, said that finalising a partnership with such a reputable and respected organisation as Beechwood Homes represents a significant coup for the club.
“Beechwood Homes are a highly professional company held in high esteem across New South Wales,” Murphy said. “Today we enter into the first year of what will hopefully become a long and mutually beneficial partnership with an organisation that truly cares for and delivers results for local people.”
“Throughout this partnership the Jets will work tirelessly to support Beechwood’s efforts in building great homes and communities in Newcastle and Northern New South Wales, and I know Beechwood will work enthusiastically to support our club.”
“It is a proud day for the Newcastle Jets to launch this major sponsorship with Beechwood Homes,” he said.
Beechwood Homes Managing Director, Mr Vic Cavasinni, said his organisation continually seeks to support the communities in which it operates.
“We are pleased to support the communities that support us,” Cavasinni said. “The people of Newcastle and the Hunter deserve a team in the nation’s elite football competition and we are pleased to help out.”
“We have been building houses throughout the Hunter and Northern NSW for over 35 years.”
“As builders we know the importance of building on solid foundations. We believe that the new Newcastle Jets are putting those foundation in place now, so we look forward to the journey together,” Cavasinni concluded.
While Newcastle Jets and Beechwood Homes will collaborate on a range of engagement initiatives for club Members and fans throughout the 2015-16 A-League season, football fans seeking to build a new home soon are encouraged to speak with Beechwood Homes.
Indeed, from now until 31 December 2015 Beechwood Homes is running a ‘Show Your Colours’ promotion.
Customers seeking to build a new home can receive a discount of $500 on top of any other promotion if they are wearing an A-League or NRL jersey and mention the Beechwood Homes/Newcastle Jets sponsorship when they first request their tender.
The $500 discount will double to $1000 if they happen to be wearing a Newcastle Jets, Newcastle Knights, or Sydney FC jersey at the time

It's been just over a month (20/5/15) since the licence was taken over and I reckon a bit of credit is due here. The club have managed to:
* Sign a new major sponsor
* Hold 3 football forums for various entities over a 3 week period
* Appoint a new coach and assistant
* Re-sign the majority of last years squad
* Establish a deal with another company (Flightcentre)
That's A LOT to do in such a short time. I don't know if additional staff from the FFA have been assigned, or if NNSWF are helping out, but I reckon the crew working behind the scenes are putting us in the best position we have been in years off the field. Shows just what can happen when the reins, or purse string are loosened. Also reflects on engagement now Tinkler has been removed.
The biggest challenge, however, is ahead. Getting together a competitive squad.

Jets in Liquidation.
http://www.theherald.com.au/story/3170180/tinklers-jets-firm-liquidation-a-creditor-nightmare-poll/?cs=305
DOZENS of unsecured trade creditors of Nathan Tinkler’s failed Newcastle Jets operation face a disastrous outcome, with liquidators saying they won’t receive any money unless legal action is successful.
Creditors voted unanimously at a meeting in Newcastle on Thursday to place Newcastle Jets Football Operations, that buckled under the weight of more than $22 million in debt, in liquidation.
The black hole at the middle of the company means unsecured trade creditors, owed about $1.1 million, will get nothing unless an insolvent trading claim is successful.
Creditors, including one representing several Tinkler entities, voted to appoint James Shaw, of Shaw Gidley, as liquidator.
Mr Shaw said there was not even enough money in the failed company to pay the liquidator’s fees.
His firm becomes a priority creditor and will be paid about $130,000 in administrator’s fees, but will conduct the liquidation free of charge.
The Herald revealed on Saturday, that when Mr Tinkler placed the company in voluntary administration in May it had $605 in the bank, $88 in office petty cash, gym equipment, some outdated merchandise and a 2009 Hyundai i30.
Mr Tinkler owns the company and his sister, Donna Dennis, is the sole director.
‘‘The company is clearly very insolvent, has no licence, has no business,’’ Mr Shaw said.
‘‘The only option available that makes any practical sense is to resolve to place the company in liquidation.’’
The meeting heard there was ‘‘potential’’ for a ‘‘small return’’ from the company for priority unsecured creditors, including employees and players.
About $1.5 million is owed in wages and superannuation and employees will be able to apply for assistance under a Federal Government scheme designed to help people who lose their job due to insolvency.
For unsecured trade creditors, including local mum-and-dad businesses, the only hope of a return is if legal action is successful.
Creditor Graham Habgood urged the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to investigate the string of Tinkler companies placed in liquidation in the past few years.
‘‘They have to do something, it can’t be allowed to continue,’’ he said.
Mr Shaw confirmed he would investigate the role of parent company Hunter Valley Sports Group in the collapse.
‘‘We are waiting on information from Hunter Valley Sports Group to properly assess the financial position of that entity,’’ he said.
The meeting added heat to a battle that began last week between FFA and Shaw Gidley, after Mr Shaw issued his latest creditor’s report that FFA labelled ‘‘misleading’’ and ‘‘inaccurate’’.
Mr Shaw said that FFA requested he ‘‘make a statement’’ to the meeting, but he refused.
‘‘FFA has a number of concerns with comments on matters within my report,’’ he said.
‘‘We largely agree to disagree on a broad range of issues.’’
Mr Shaw agreed to inform creditors that FFA withheld $300,000 in grant funds from the Jets earlier this year due to a ‘‘right of set-off’’ against money the FFA believed the Jets owed it.
He said there was also a dispute about the amount stated in the report that could be potentially recovered from FFA under insolvency laws, with FFA claiming it had been ‘‘overstated’’.
‘‘I take a different view,’’ Mr Shaw said.

MITCHELL Murphy knows he needs to keep kicking goals if he is to be retained as the long-term chief executive for the Newcastle Jets.
The announcement on Thursday that the Jets had secured a home-game ‘‘principal partner’’, Beechwood Homes, for one season with a one-year option should only enhance his prospects.
It will be just the second cash-paying major sponsor in Newcastle’s history, after online bookmakers Centrebet in season 2008-09.
The club’s other major sponsors have effectively been Clayton’s deals, promoting companies owned or affiliated with former owners Con Constantine and Nathan Tinkler, such as Parklea Markets, Hunter Ports and Castle Quarry Products.
Murphy said the Beechwood deal was for a ‘‘sizeable figure’’ and negotiations were well advanced with a potential major sponsor for Newcastle’s away-game strip.
‘‘The market is tough for everybody and we learned very early on that to go and sell the kit holistically, for both home and away, in the current commercial landscape is going to be difficult,’’ Murphy told the Newcastle Herald.
‘‘So we decided to go with a hybrid model, where we’re selling the front of the home jersey and also the front of the away jersey to different partners.
‘‘We’re well down the track with negotiations on that. I suppose it makes it easier when you’re spreading the sell, rather than asking someone to come up with one very big number.’’
Beechwood Homes managing director Vic Cavasinni said the Hunter Region had been ‘‘kind’’ to his company over the past 35 years and this was a chance to ‘‘support the community’’.
See your ad here
Beechwood is also a sponsor of the Newcastle Knights.
“The people of Newcastle and the Hunter deserve a team in the nation’s elite football competition and we are pleased to help out,’’ Cavasinni said.
“. . . as builders we know the importance of building on solid foundations. We believe that the new Newcastle Jets are putting those foundations in place now, so we look forward to the journey together.’’
The only complication in negotiating the deal was that Beechwood also sponsors Sydney FC, so an agreement was reached whereby Newcastle’s shirts will advertise Autism Awareness for their home games against Sydney.
‘‘We contacted Sydney FC to let them know we were speaking to Beechwood,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘We wanted to be transparent about it. They were incredibly supportive.’’
Having been appointed as Newcastle’s CEO in February, Murphy’s future was clouded by the demise of Nathan Tinkler as Jets owner last month.
Like the rest of Newcastle’s administrative staff, Murphy is on a rolling month-by-month contract while the club remains under Football Federation Australia ownership.
But his aim is to stay at the helm once the governing body finds a new owner for the franchise.
‘‘For me, it’s quite simple,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘It’s business as usual until a new owner comes in, and then we’ll see how that new owner wants to progress.
‘‘But I’m fully committed to the club and I think we’ve shown a lot of positive signs in recent weeks that the future looks bright.
‘‘There’s a lot of work still to be done, and we’re very aware of that, but I think we’ve made some profound inroads.
‘‘It’s an unusual set of circumstances, but the commitment and resilience of the staff has been first-rate.’’

Scott Miller's appointment as Newcastle Jets coach is a gamble Football Federation Australia will be hoping pays off.
By
Philip Micallef
29 Jun 2015 - 11:14 AM UPDATED 3 HOURS AGO
The troubled Jets are managed by FFA in the wake of the withdrawal of previous owner Nathan Tinkler's A-League licence.
Melbourne-born Miller, 33, signed a two-year contract with the club after leaving his role as under-21 coach at English Championship club Fulham, where he worked for nine years.
He will be the youngest coach to handle an A-League club.
Scott's appointment is seen by many as a gamble because, no matter how good or willing you are, nothing in football can beat experience, particularly when it comes to occupying the hot seat at a club that is fighting for its very survival.
All over the world the prime age of coaches at the biggest and most successful clubs is in the mid-40s to mid-60s.
Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Fabio Capello, Arsene Wenger, Carlo Ancelotti, Louis Van Gaal, Manuel Pellegrini and Rafael Benitez have been there and done that.
Relative newcomer Pep Guardiola was a clear exception to the rule.
Nothing against Miller but the logic or wisdom behind his selection must be questioned.
In Australia we sometimes tend to ignore our own coaches at an age when they come to full experience and maturity and when they do things in a smarter and more practical way than when they were younger.
That's why, generally speaking, coaches of this age group (mid-40s to mid-60s) are far more likely to be successful than their younger counterparts.
The vast majority of the 19 FIFA World Cup-winning coaches (Italy's Vittorio Pozzo won it twice) were over 45 years of age.
There are no shortcuts in life. Whether you are a builder, a teacher or a gym instructor the more experience you have the better you are at what you do. Football is no exception.
Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou spent years in the street of hard knocks and learning as he went along before becoming the senior national team coach.
There is another side to this argument, however.
Recent history teaches us that rookie coaches with no track record are not necessarily a recipe for disaster when given a top job.
Especially if they had the opportunity to closely observe the running of a foreign professional club either as an assistant coach to the senior team or head coach of the reserves or under-21s, as was the case with Miller.
Tony Popovic was almost in the same boat as Miller when he was named first Western Sydney Wanderers coach in 2011. Look how that story turned out!
After building a team from scratch, Popovic led the club to two successive A-League grand finals and to the AFC Champions League title in what has been described as one of the finest moments of Australian club football.
By the same token one could say that a coach with wider experience could have been able to halt the Wanderers' spectacular fall from grace after reaching the heights of Riyadh.
Yet who's to say that relatively unknown Miller won't make a fist of his appointment at Newcastle and grow into the job?
Some people, in any walks of life, just need a window of opportunity to show what they can do.
The FFA's decision to appoint Miller, upon the recommendation of Postecoglou, could backfire.
The job in Newcastle involves far more than finding a winning formula for a Jets team that has been grounded for too long.
It involves recreating the spirit within the club and among the community that reached its peak when Newcastle won the A-League in 2008.
The governing body has taken a risk, no doubt about that, by opting for Miller instead of several former A-League coaches who have plenty to offer but I hope it's a calculated risk especially for Newcastle Jets' sake.
I'm not game enough to criticise FFA of recklessness or irresponsibility or lack of foresight for giving a tough job to a rookie because Miller could well prove all the doubters wrong.
Time will tell if FFA is on the money with this Miller gamble.
It had better be. The governing cannot afford to get this wrong.
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/blog/2015/06/29/miller-right-man-lift-grounded-jets
Philip certainly isn't convinced with Scott Miller's appointment. He would have rather seen us appoint an experienced A-League coach out of work or someone in their mid 40's - 60's.

Respected Jones fits bill with rebuilding Jets
By JOSH LEESON
June 29, 2015, 10 p.m
MARK Jones earned high praise among Newcastle Jets insiders during the shambolic final months of coach Phil Stubbins’ reign for coming in and providing defensive structure to keep the club competitive.
The former A-League championship-winning assistant coach will have a full season to offer his expertise to the club after he was appointed head of performance on Monday.
The announcement follows the appointment of former Fulham assistant Scott Miller as head coach and ex-Melbourne Victory assistant Jean-Paul de Marigny as his right-hand man.
Jones begins the new role next Monday, the same day Miller returns from England to take over his first training session.
As head of performance, Jones will oversee strength and conditioning and work closely with head physiotherapist Justin Dougherty. He will also assist de Marigny with video analysis and scouting.
‘‘We had a good meeting where he demonstrated not only his knowledge of his profession, but of Newcastle Jets and Australian football to me,’’ Miller said. ‘‘From that point on he became a leading candidate to join our team. Mark obviously has a vast background in strength and conditioning, but as importantly he understands the technical and tactical aspects of the game. This will enable him to function in between the two schools of the football department.”
A born and bred Novocastrian, Jones played for Newcastle Rosebud and the Breakers and later served as Gary van Egmond’s assistant coach when the club won its only A-League title in 2007-08.
In 2010 Jones was moved on, but he returned in January following former owner Nathan Tinkler’s controversial sacking of Clayton Zane (assistant), Neil Young (goalkeeping coach) and Andrew Packer (strength and conditioning coach). Jones, along with fellow assistant James Pascoe, were credited with making the Jets more defensively sound and harder to break down in the final months of last season.
He is one of 12 FIFA fitness instructors worldwide, is an Asian Football Confederation elite conditioning instructor, and is Sportscode accredited. He is also currently completing his FFA Pro Diploma.
“I’m a Newcastle person, and for me I just want to help secure a better result for the team and a better outcome for the club,” Jones said of his appointment. “I have a responsibility to do the strength and conditioning, the video analysis and assist with the technical side of the delivery of the football program, but I will help in any way I can to ensure that we get a better result,” Jones said.
De Marigny has never worked directly with Jones, but has always admired his football brain.
‘‘I’ve known Jonesy a long time and he comes highly qualified and with really good credentials,’’ de Marigny said. ‘‘He’s a real student of the game, which is good because he’s always up-skilling himself.
‘‘I think he’ll be a massive addition for us and he knows the way of Australian football, as I do, and he obviously has a soft spot for Newcastle, his home town, and wants to do well here.

Jets v Roar: RAAF link as the new derbies
By JOSH LEESON
June 29, 2015, 9:45 p.m
NEWCASTLE Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy has boldly stated his intention for the club’s ‘‘RAAF round’’ against Brisbane Roar to one day compete with the Sydney and Melbourne derbies in terms of popularity.
The A-League draw for the upcoming season, due to kick-off on October 8, was revealed on Monday.
The Jets will begin their new era under the ownership of Football Federation Australia and direction of new coach Scott Miller with a road trip to Westpac Stadium on October 11 to face Wellington.
The club then returns home to Hunter Stadium to host A-League heavyweights and last season’s grand finalists, Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory, on consecutive weekends.
But it is the November 28 game at Turton Road against the Roar which that really excited Mitchell.
On the proposed ‘‘RAAF round’’ Newcastle will wear a commemorative shirt and fighter jets will fly over the stadium prior to kick-off.
‘‘Outside of the traditional Sydney-Melbourne derbies, we actually believe this RAAF round, as we’re calling it, will become a signature round in the A-League season year in year out,’’ Murphy said.
As part of the new relationship between the Jets and Williamtown RAAF base, senior fighter pilots are expected to provide players with mentoring.
‘‘Taking a $60million fighter jet into the air as opposed to playing a game of football, there are distinct differences,’’ Murphy said.
See your ad here
‘‘But there are also similarities. You have to plan for a game or mission, execute your game plan or flight path and then you have to debrief the mission or your performance.’’
The Jets will play 14 home games in the upcoming season – six in the 5.15pm Saturday timeslot, six on Sunday at 5pm and two Friday night games.
The club have also avoided two road trips to Perth and Wellington, where the Jets have traditionally struggled for points.
However, the Jets’ task of qualifying for their first semi-final series in six seasons has been made difficult by a challenging run home.
The club have just four home games – against Perth, Western Sydney, Wellington and Melbourne City – in the final 11 rounds, meaning the Jets will need to begin the season firing.
‘‘You’d certainly want to turn at Christmas in a solid position,’’ Mitchell said.
‘‘But the other thing is, which I’ve made reference to on countless occasions is, we need to make sure that when opposing teams come to Hunter, that this is a fortress.
‘‘We need to win the majority of our home games, and if we do that, it gives you a leg up.’’

Grass burns: visiting players vote Hunter Stadium as worst pitch in A-League
By ROBERT DILLON
June 30, 2015, 10:30 p.m
NEWCASTLE has received its second wooden spoon of the recently completed A-League season – this time for a stadium voted the worst in the competition by visiting players.
Even after having a $1.3million pitch laid before the Jets’ first home game, the playing surface at Hunter Stadium retained its unwanted status as the A-League’s least satisfactory, according to an annual Professional Footballers Australia poll.
In addition, Turton Road received the lowest score in the ‘‘atmosphere’’ category.
PFA surveys away-team captains every week to rate the A-League’s playing fields under the criteria of hardness, pace and smoothness by scoring each out of five, to produce an overall average.
According to the statistics provided to the Herald on Tuesday by PFA, Hunter Stadium received the lowest overall average, 2.75, while Melbourne’s AAMI Park scored the highest, 4.32.
The poll also scored Hunter Stadium the lowest for game-day atmosphere (2.0), while AAMI (4.7) was voted the best. The discontent with Turton Road was no anomaly.
Since PFA introduced pitch ratings six seasons ago, Newcastle’s turf has been voted the worst four times.
It was also 10th of 11 in season 2010-11 and reached a high point when it was sixth of 10 in 2012-13.
“It’s extremely pleasing to see the overall standard of the pitches across the league rising, however, there remains some worrying trends with Hunter Stadium and Suncorp Stadium consistently providing a substandard playing surface during the course of the season,’’ PFA chief executive Adam Vivian said.
‘‘If we are to ensure the continued improvement in playing standard, it is vital that this is addressed ahead of next season’s kick-off.’’
Hunter Stadium received the lowest scores for pace (3.21), hardness (2.63) and smoothness (2.67). Its overall score of 2.75 was better than for the previous season (2.64) but below the 3.38 of 2012-13.
The pitch was relaid in November, barely 48 hours before Newcastle’s game against Melbourne Victory.
Several days after that game, Victory coach Kevin Muscat declared: ‘‘If we’re honest, the surface wasn’t good enough for football ... Was the safety of the players at risk? Possibly.
‘‘Players couldn’t train this week. A lot of players couldn’t train because they were sore coming off that surface.’’
His sentiments were echoed in January by Melbourne City coach John van ’t Schip, who said the pitch was in ‘‘very bad condition’’ and rated it a ‘‘four out of 10’’ after his team’s 5-2 demolition of the Jets.
Hunter Stadium was used for four Asian Cup games in January, including Australia’s semi-final win against the UAE, and if there was any dissatisfaction from players or coaches, it went unreported.
Hunter Venues general manager Bicci Henderson said he was ‘‘very surprised’’ A-League captains had not revised their opinion of the pitch after it was relaid.
‘‘The reactions from the teams that played here during the Asian Cup were certainly very happy with the pitch and the way it played,’’ he said. ‘‘Whether it’s just that old minds take a while to change, my recollection of the 2014-15 season is that there were no issues with any of the visiting teams.’’
He said it was up to the home-team coach at all A-League games to dictate the hardness of the pitch.
Henderson also queried why the game-day atmosphere at Hunter Stadium received the lowest rating.
‘‘I go to quite a few stadiums, and certainly I don’t think our stadium lacks anything in terms of atmosphere,’’ he said.

Just another day at the office for Bicci.
The pitch looked S#!T tonnes better than before it was relaid. Our pitch was miles ahead of Suncorp stadium, i'll back Bicci a bit on this one. We definitely don't have the best pitch but i don't think we have the worst at all.
As for atmosphere, i thought we would score higher considering we spent most of our time bagging out own coach instead of the opposition.. Shouldn't that have made their experience of our stadium better? I would've loved to play an away game here.

Most of the teams would have played on the surface at its worst and even when it was relaid it wasn't at its best until after the Asian Cup.
Would prefer to wait for the next rating I think. As for the atmosphere, the two hills let the sound out.

FFA Cup draw gives Edgeworth shot at A-League guns
By ROBERT DILLON
July 1, 2015, 11 p.m
EDGEWORTH coach Damian Zane says his players have no intention of merely making up the numbers after drawing A-League club Melbourne City in the next round of the Football Federation Australia Cup.
Edgeworth will host City, Broadmeadow Magic are at home to Victorian Premier League side Heidelberg United and the Newcastle Jets have drawn a home game against last season's FFA Cup runners-up, Perth Glory, in the round of 32.
Zane admitted it would be a daunting task against City, who finished fifth in the A-League last season, but his players would relish their giant-killing assignment.
‘‘To get a big A-League club at home, it’s probably the best outcome you could hope for,’’ Zane told the Newcastle Herald. ‘‘It’s at the beginning of their preparation, but we’ll be match fit, so you never know what to expect. Everyone’s human.
‘‘We’re very excited and we’re not going out to lose. We dare to dream.’’
Games will be split over three weeks (July 28-August 12) and clubs will learn on Friday the dates of their fixtures.
Second on the Northern NSW National Premier League table after winning seven of their past eight games, the Eagles qualified for the round of 32 with a 3-0 win against Adamstown.
Edgeworth hope to entertain City at their home ground, Jack McLaughlan Oval, but that will depend on whether it is a designated Foxtel televised game.
Lighting at Jack McLaughlan is insufficient for TV broadcasting standards, which would mean transferring the game to a suitable venue, possibly Magic Park.
Eagles treasurer Warren Mills said the match would be ‘‘massive’’ if it was staged at Edgeworth and would possibly attract a crowd approaching 4000.
‘‘There’s a big population base out there, if you consider areas like Cameron Park, so we’d be hoping for a pretty healthy crowd,’’ he said.
‘‘We had 4500 for the grand final last year. You never know who City will bring, but imagine if they sign a big name from overseas as their marquee and he’s playing his first game.
‘‘It would be brilliant, just brilliant.’’
Mills said that if the game was transferred, then the host club would naturally share in the proceeds.
For the Jets, there was a sense of deja vu about Wednesday’s draw.
They were at home to Perth in the corresponding round of last year’s inaugural tournament and bowed out in a 2-0 defeat at Magic Park.
Jets chief executive Mitchell Murphy said the club would know by Friday what ground it would use, but Magic Park was the likely choice.
‘‘The FFA Cup, although it’s still in its infancy, is a prestigious competition,’’ Murphy said. ‘‘It’s a competition that we’ll be taking very seriously.
‘‘Any club would like to have the FFA Cup silverware in their offices.’’
Murphy said he expected the Jets would play a couple of trial matches as a lead-up to the clash with Perth.
‘‘I’d hope people aren’t going to judge us on our first ‘proper game’ of the season, but of course we’d like to get off to a positive start with a win,’’ he said.
Broadmeadow, who qualified with a 13-0 rout of first-division side West Wallsend, are fifth on the Northern NSW Premier League table.
Heidelberg are third on the Victorian Premier League ladder.

Newcastle Jets aim to reignite community passion
By JOSH LEESON
July 1, 2015, 11 p.m
FEW Newcastle Jets players have felt disconnected from the Hunter community more acutely than midfielder Ben Kantarovski.
That’s why Wednesday’s community event at Nobbys was so significant for the home-grown midfielder.
‘‘I think it’s the only way we’re going to build the club up from the bottom, where it is now,’’ Kantarovski said.
‘‘It’s laying those foundations of how you want to be as a club and how it should be.
‘‘You look at all the big clubs and they have such a strong community base.
‘‘I respect that old-school English era or anywhere in Europe, where the team where you were born is your team and you follow them passionately.
‘‘We want to create that in Newcastle, so when they say you’re from Newcastle they remember you’re a supporter of the Jets.’’
Born and bred in Newcastle, Kantarovski debuted in round one of the 2008-09 season when the glow of the Jets’ A-League championship still radiated.
Two wooden spoons, five straight failures to reach the semi-finals and the turbulent ownership reign of Nathan Tinkler have almost extinguished that glow.
Kantarovski and goalkeeper Ben Kennedy are the sole survivors from the Jets’ halcyon days and the Broadmeadow Magic junior admitted he had experienced a massive drop in support from his community.
‘‘It’s just the feeling you get,’’ Kantarovski said.
‘‘When I first started playing, we used to do a lot of promotional things with schools and kids, and that sort of faded away in that middle period.
‘‘From one year we went from winning the grand final to just fizzling out, which has been disappointing, especially for me playing here in that period.
‘‘It has been frustrating, but it’s taken a turn for the better now, and re-engaging with the community is a start to get the club where it needs to be and where it once was.’’
That push to reignite passion for the Jets continued on Wednesday when the club hosted a community event at Nobbys Beach.
Supporters and children from the Emerging Jets program were invited to attend the team’s morning fitness session. Players mingled with fans, signed autographs and played beach football.
Since Football Federation Australia bundled out Tinkler and took control of the club in May, re-engagement was been the buzzword at the Jets.
The FFA has held three forums with business leaders, members and supporters and the Jets have increased their community appearances.
A-League boss Damien de Bohun has vowed that will continue.
While school visits and community initiatives are beneficial, Kantarovski knows the quickest way to restore public support is through results on the field.
‘‘In recent years we haven’t had the results we’ve wanted, but we’ve still had one of the best memberships in the league, and that shows how much the community is willing to support us in the tough times,’’ he said.
‘‘Hopefully we can turn that around and give a little bit of relief to fans for sticking by us in the hard times.’’
Cessnock-based Jets supporter David Anderson and his son Seth were part of the small turnout of fans at Nobbys on Wednesday.
Seth is a striker in the under-10s Emerging Jets squad and shaved the word ‘‘Jets’’ into the side of his head for the occasion.
David Anderson said the club needed to move forward on and off the field, because ‘‘it couldn’t go any further backwards’’.
‘‘It was a bit embarrassing, not the effort of the players, but the effort management put in,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m from Cessnock, but you feel a part of the community with the Jets, especially with my son playing for them, and it was really hard to watch.’’

More than a year later his passion for football has been rejuvenated and on Friday Deans was unveiled as the new Jets W-League coach.
The 41-year-old former Jets A-League assistant coach replaces Peter McGuinness, who now manages the Jets youth team.
Former Adamstown Rosebud player-coach Ashley Wilson will be Deans’ assistant and ex-Broadmeadow Magic gloveman Chris Bowling will work with the goalkeepers.

Newcastle Jets utility David Carney says he’s excited about the forthcoming Hyundai A-League season and the future of the club.
The former Socceroo said that like everyone at the Jets he’s optimistic about the fresh start for Newcastle with new coach Scott Miller coming onboard.
Carney confirmed that right now there is a really good vibe among the squad and staff.
“It’s only been a couple of weeks since we’ve started getting back into it but training has been really good,” Carney said.
“Assistant coach Jean-Paul de Marigny has been here for a little while now and since Scott has come in it’s been a great partnership.
“All the boys have been saying that while last year may not have been the greatest what we’re working on right now is really positive in terms of tempo and intensity from everyone involved.
“Every session all the boys are giving 100 per cent and you really couldn’t can’t ask from much more.”
As a former English Premier League player Carney knows how tough training can be on young squad members and the ex-Sheffield United midfielder says he’s looking to use his experience to make sure the more inexperienced squad members are getting the most benefit on the training paddock.
“We’ve got a fair few young players in the squad at the moment and I’d like to help them grow as footballers,” he said.
“Not just in a technical sense but also how they mentally prepare for games and the mental toughness that they need to have on the pitch to help go to the next level.
“One of the things you have to learn as young player is not to go into your shell if you make a mistake or have a bad a game and if I can help with that it will make them better players.”
With the club’s Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 encounter against Perth Glory looming, Carney said that he believes the Jets can book themselves a spot in the final 16.
“There is fair off-season in the A-League so the FFA Cup really keeps you going and gives you something to look forward to,” he said.
“The boys have been really working hard to prepare for the match though having a small squad and a lot of young players makes it a bit tougher for Scott and JP.
“But we’ve still got some senior players here with Nigel Boogaard and Daniel Mullen.
“Lee Ki-je is one of the best left sided players in the league and we’re really lucky to have him here.
“There is still a lot of quality in the team so hopefully we can put on a good show and get into the next round.
“We’ve still got a few more players we need to add to the squad yet but with the way training has been going and with Scott and JP here we should be able to bring in some more quality players and have a good year.”

Yeah... imagine if, next week, Steve Thompson announces the purchase of Roar?
Would be livid...
Why would you be livid?
Would be nice if someone like Thompson wants to be put money into the club but ultimately his primary motive is to do it so as to benefit HIS club Dundee United, if people think he wants to pump money into an Aussie club out of the goodness of his heart then they need to give themselves a reality check.

Here you go mate. http://www.newcastlejets.com.au/article/news-jets-set-for-greater-community-engagement-via-jets-connect/a0m43984d34v1vx7ji08d54ui
Newcastle Jets are delighted to announce that the club has joined forces with prominent customer owned banking organisation the Greater Building Society for a major community partnership.
In a landmark agreement for both parties, The Greater has committed to be the major sponsor of the Jets’ new community engagement strategy and platform – to be known as ‘JETS: CONNECT’ – for the next two years.
JETS: CONNECT, fuelled by The Greater, will ensure that the club’s players, coaches, staff, and brand are highly visible in a variety of communities in and around Newcastle the Hunter and Northern New South Wales.
The JETS: CONNECT program will feature a pre-season tour, primary school visits, junior football clinics, and charitable components, sharpening the club’s focus and commitment in the community space.
This follows recent feedback from extensive engagement with Jets members and fans.
JETS: CONNECT will officially commence this month when the club’s senior squad and staff departs Newcastle on a six-day pre-season tour of Northern New South Wales.
From Monday 27 July to Saturday 1 August the Jets will visit several towns within the club’s northern catchment, including Taree, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Armidale and Tamworth.
At today’s JETS: CONNECT media launch at Hunter Stadium, Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer Mr Mitchell Murphy praised the Greater for believing in and backing the club’s community plan.
“The Greater is a highly recognised and respected organisation within Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and wider New South Wales,” Murphy said. “As a club we’re thrilled that The Greater have opted to share in our mission to positively influence people and their community’s through football.”
“Our members and supporters have certainly expressed their desire to see us be more active and visible in the community, and we’re confident that with The Greater’s support we will meet their wishes through our JETS: CONNECT platform.”
The Greater’s Acting CEO Greg Taylor says the JETS: CONNECT partnership aligns closely with The Greater’s core values.
“We are one of the largest banking organisations in Australia with a proud history of giving back to our community, not shareholders,” Mr Taylor said.
“The Greater shares the Jets’ values of being united with the community and acting with integrity in our dealings.
“Football is the number one participation sport in our region and we hope that our contribution will see the communities number one team connect even more closely with families, schools, local football clubs and charities.
“As a leading business in the Hunter we are privileged to do our part in making the Jets more accessible to the community, inspiring young boys and girls to be active,” he said.

Jesse Vanstrattan joins Jets support staff

NEWCASTLE Jets have filled the final place on the club’s support staff with Jesse Vanstrattan returning as goal keeping coach.
Vanstrattan has agreed to terms on a one-year deal and attended his first session on Monday.
The 32-year-old was initially lured to the club midway through last season by then coach Phil Stubbins in a dual role of back-up keeper and mentor.
His recruitment came after the sudden sacking of goal keeping coach Neil Young and other support staff Clayton Zane and Andrew Packer.
The Jets had been without a specialist keeping coach for the opening month of the pre-season.
Before turning to coaching, Vanstrattan spent 10 years playing in Italy, including stints at Verona and Juventus.
The Jets are his third A-League club following playing roles at the now defunct Gold Coast United and Central Coast Mariners.
Based on the Central Coast, he has retired from playing and will focus solely on mentoring Jets keepers Ben Kennedy and Mark Birighitti.
Apart from Vanstrattan, the Jets welcomed triallists Aryn William, Max Burgess and Patrick Antelmi to training on Monday.

I'd be happy with Antelmi, hell i'd be happy if all 3 sign. Burgess seemed pretty enthusiastic when he came in and is still young enough to improve under some decent Tutelage.

I wonder if the FFA is considering not filling the 23 man squad completely, allowing them spend more on players who will be able to start straight away.
While having 20ish players isn't ideal depth wise, they would just have to rely more on the Youth guys like Lundy
Another positive by not filling the squad is that when the new owners hopefully come in there are some roster spots open for Marquees.

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/3224189/jets-in-negotiations-with-former-adelaide-midfielder/?cs=306
NEWCASTLE Jets are in talks with former Adelaide midfielder Cameron Watson.
A defensive utility equally comfortable in the centre of the park or at right fullback, Watson played 106 games for the Reds in five seasons.
A permanent fixture in the Adelaide side for three years, he struggled for game time under Josep Gombau and was used predominantly as a back-up to Spanish playmaker Isias.
The 28-year-old, who played in Portugal and Holland as a teenager, had been training with Melbourne City and is expected in Newcastle later this week.
The Jets have 16 players contracted, including trainee Brandon Lundy.
Ben Kantarovski, who is back running after groin surgery, is the only recognised defensive midfielder on the roster three weeks ahead of the FFA Cup opener against Perth Glory at Magic Park.
With money tight under the $2.6million salary cap, new coach Scott Miller is likely to go with a 21-man squad.
Two places have been earmarked for foreigners and key positions in the front third.
A-League regulars Iain Ramsay and Kofi Danning trained with the Jets last week.
Ramsay left Australia on Monday to pursue an offer in Iran.
Danning will join fellow triallists Aryn Williams, Max Burgess and Pat Antelmi at Ray Watt Oval on Tuesday.
New Zealand international Leo Bertos will also train with the Jets ahead of a stint in the Indian Premier League but is not chasing a deal.
Williams is the younger brother of Socceroo and Middlesbrough centre back Rhys.
The 21-year-old spent three years at English Championship club Burnley but has most recently been playing in the Western Australian State League.
Burgess, an attacking midfielder, played five game for the Jets at the end of last season on a short-term deal.
Antelmi, who played youth football at Leeds United and Wigan, trained with the Jets in March.
The contract hopefuls will feature in an intraclub trial on Wednesday.
The Jets depart on a six-day Northern NSW tour next Wednesday that will include a hit-out in Armidale on July 31. Four Northern Inland players will bolster numbers for a Jets A v Jets B clash.
They will meet Central Coast Mariners behind closed doors at Central Coast Stadium on August 5.
The Jets had to cancel a trial against Adamstown Rosebud due to insufficient lighting at Adamstown Oval.
Meanwhile, 2014-15 Jets members will be able to renew their commitment to the club starting Wednesday.
Details will be on the club website and there will also be a membership hotline.

As the Head Coach of the Newcastle Jets, I’m completely committed and excited to be leading a new beginning for our football club.
Part of my job is to create a team that the Newcastle and Northern NSW community can be proud of - a team that demonstrates humility and respect and is driven to succeed on and off the pitch.
Our club will be an energetic and visible force in the community, but the coaches, players and staff can’t do this without you.
The Jets belong to Newcastle and the community belongs with us. We need you on board.

Miller turns up the heat on Jets
Newcastle Jets coach Scott Miller wants to make Hunter Stadium a fortress that other A-League clubs dread to enter.
Miller has taken the reins at the Jets from Phil Stubbins and is trying to revamp the club that took out the wooden spoon last season.
Since arriving in June the coach has made five new signings and currently has the squad on tour of northern NSW.
Miller told FourFourTwo that preparations for the 2015-16 campaign are progressing well.
“I want Hunter Stadium to become a stadium that no other team wants to travel to,” Miller said.
“The team identity must suggest hard-to-beat, home and away – however at home rarely (should we) allow the opposition firstly to perform and secondly win.
“At this current stage we are looking competitive. Our preparations are progressing well and I have been pleased with the players’ attitude to the challenge ahead.
“It’s about the mentality – we need to increase the intensity at which we do things and, as a staff, review what works, improve it, challenge it and continuously drive this playing group.
“I said to the players my first day ‘you will be under more pressure internally from the coaching staff to improve daily than you may ever have experienced, however the difference is we are here to support you.’
“For me it is simple – our performances on field need to reflect that of the personality of Newcastle. We cannot afford to take hard work and discipline for granted as I believe it will be one of our greatest strengths this season.”
Former Adelaide United midfielder Cameron Watson has joined the Jets, along with Western Sydney pair Mateo Poljak and Labinot Haliti. Jason Hoffman has also returned to the club after four seasons with Melbourne City, and Lachlan Jackson has been signed from Brisbane Roar.
Newcastle currently only has 18 players in its first-team squad, with no marquees, but Miller says he isn’t concerned about squad size but quality.
“Numbers and squad size mean very little to some extent,” he said.
“If I could have 21 quality, highly motivated, experienced players as opposed to 24 inexperienced players, that would be my preference. We have introduced and demonstrated that there is a pathway in place for the youth team to progress into the first-team environment.
“At this stage we have had the entire youth team training with us twice, which was interesting as it provided me with the opportunity to review them from a different perspective.
“Cameron joins the Jets and brings over 100 games in the A-League with him. My decision to recruit Cameron is because I believe he will provide the Jets with the midfield balance required and furthermore increase the competition for places in the midfield.
“Watson, Poljak and (Ben) Kantarovski will be competing for starting positions weekly.”
The Jets take on Perth Glory in the FFA Cup Round of 32 next month at Magic Park. Newcastle was knocked out of the competition at the same stage by the same opponent last season.
Glory have been rocked in the past few months by several high-profile player departures following the salary cap scandal, including Andy Keogh, Scott Jamieson, Danny Vukovic, Jamie Maclaren and Jack Duncan.
Miller said the Jets were looking forward to the clash and said squad recruitment was now at a point where training could focus on tactics ahead of the fixture.
“The FFA Cup is a process in the development of the team,” Miller added. “It’s our first of many challenges this season.
“My approach is simple – it’s a fixture-focused approach. Our team will be prepared for the Perth Glory Westfield FFA Cup match.
“We will focus on our playing principle. My focus is not on Perth and what is happening off field there.”
The Jets will kick off their new A-League campaign away from home against Wellington Phoenix on October 11. Miller said he and Senior Assistant Coach, Jean-Paul de Marigny (JP), want the team to play a “disciplined, controlled and measured” style of football this season.
“(My goal is) to create a training ground environment and playing squad that reflects professionalism, discipline and respect,” he said.
“JP and I demand top six training quality and professionalism every day in our preparations. Players and staff must feel empowered and take responsibility for their individual roles, and when we do this, we will be competitive.
“The drive and mentality in the group is focused, it will only improve and momentum and belief will define our top six ambitions.
I take it he means because we play well and others struggle to win, not because the pitch is a cow paddock and voted worst in the league?

Yeah, so glad he is out there winning A-League games during the off season.
What do you want him to do, say "we aren't going to try and make our home ground a fortress, all we want to do is win some games".

Nothing of what Miller has said even remotely reminds me of what Stubbins said last year.
The main difference being that Miller has said what he wants and how he is going to get it.
Stubbins on the other hand merely blurted out what he wanted but never did he discuss how it was going to be achieved.
Miller has a plan for the club and whether it works or not will be decided as the season progresses. Stubbins though had absolutely no plan and as such I'd completely lost faith in him before the FFA Cup game against Perth had even reached half-time.

My thoughts are that a new owner is all but sealed and want to bring in their own CEO, so Murphy had to go, Eland is only there to fill the gap...

Murphy out, Eland in as Jets ownership change looms
By ROBERT DILLON
Aug. 6, 2015, 9:50 p.m.
THE proposed takeover of the Newcastle Jets by Scottish millionaire Stephen Thompson appears a step closer to reality after chief executive Mitchell Murphy parted company with the club on Thursday.
Murphy, appointed in February after the resignation of Robbie Middleby, has been replaced on an interim basis by David Eland, who will temporarily juggle the Jets role with his job as chief executive of Northern NSW Football.
The Newcastle Herald understands Football Federation Australia told Murphy his services would not be retained once new ownership had been secured, which is tipped to happen within a matter of weeks.
Thompson emerged as a potential buyer of the Jets in December when it was revealed he was in discussions with Newcastle’s then owner, Nathan Tinkler.
Tinkler subsequently took the club off the market, only to have his licence revoked by FFA in May when he placed the debt-ridden franchise into voluntary administration.
Thompson, meanwhile, was still waiting eagerly in the background.
The Herald has been told FFA officials explored other options but in recent weeks have stepped up negotiations with Thompson, who owns Scottish Premier League club Dundee United.
It is unclear if he is intent on becoming the sole owner of the Jets or the major stakeholder in a consortium.
A-League head Damien de Bohun said at a press conference on Thursday that the governing body was ‘‘well progressed’’ and confident of having new Jets ownership in place by the time the season kicked off in early October.
He said several parties were still negotiating with FFA but declined to confirm if Thompson was the main contender.
‘‘There’s still different people in the mix,’’ de Bohun said.
‘‘Like anything, you make sure you’ve got enough options to get the right outcome.
‘‘We set ourselves the goal of having this resolved before the start of the season, and that’s very much the target ... it’s unfair to talk about who’s in the mix exactly, because previously these sorts of processes can take all sorts of twists and turns.’’
The Herald contacted Thompson by email on Thursday night, but he politely declined to comment.
Murphy’s position had been under scrutiny since Tinkler’s demise. In June, he told the Herald his situation was ‘‘quite simple ... business as usual until a new owner comes in, and then we’ll see how that new owner wants to progress’’.
De Bohun said Murphy had done a ‘‘fabulous job’’ since FFA assumed control of the Jets 10 weeks ago.
‘‘I guess part of what we’ve all known all along is that we go down the path of securing new owners for the club, the leadership of the club was something that was important to new owners,’’ he said.
‘‘So that was part of the reason we made this decision. We wanted to let Mitchell know as early as we can that that’s the way it was shaping ... it’s all part of getting to the point where we can sell the club and do that before the start of the season.’’
He said Eland would play a key role ‘‘during this pivotal phase’’ before new ownership was confirmed.
Eland said he would ‘‘come as a package deal’’ as Northern NSW Football’s board of directors had also agreed to make resources available to the Jets.
But he did not think it was feasible to fill the dual CEO positions permanently.
‘‘This is a short-term role ... I think at some point you’d definitely need to determine which way it’s going to go forward,’’ he said.
The Herald left a message with Murphy on Thursday but received no reply
What I don't get is why potentially destabilise the club if it is still a few weeks away from happening? And why do this the day before renewals happen?
It's not adding up to me with what we currently know.

baz that thread you made of the jets doing nice things, have all been down to mitchell, the jets tour was mitchells idea and it worked a treat, the fact we have reconnected with NNSWF has been down to murphy.

I'd say it is a cost saving for the FFA, Elland has part of his wage piad by Northern and part by the Jets (FFA) Murphy was fully paid by the Jets (FFA). If it is true that the club will be sold prior to kickoff in October, then why would not the FFA try and save a few $$

Jeterpool that doesn't say he was sacked:
"Football Federation Australia told Murphy his services would not be retained once new ownership had been secured"
That says once this joint is sold you wont be retained by the new owners. It is possible that Murphy then decided to walk or had another offer because why hang around doing massive hours for peanuts, may as well leave now. Any type of deal may have been done. He may have been told if he wants to go they would offer him a severance payment and he figured take the money and go.
I think it was always a tiny chance any new outfit would keep him, they will bring their own in. So this was only a matter of time IMO and basically inevitable.
What I do hope is that it is an indication of how close the final deal is now.
