I'd be pretty shocked if Sydney didn't make it through to the GF anyway - although its possible.

FFA have absolutely no grounds to move the final if we win tomorrow night and sydney lose.

10,000 tickets sold for the "biggest rivalrly in football". ****ing pathetic.

They wont. The article states something about the GF being held in Newcastle, Sydney or Melbourne but that is what the FFA booked a few weeks ago when it became apparent that they were the only 3 places it could be held. If we loose and Sydney loose then it will be in Melbourne. If Sydney win it will be in Sydney, if we win and Sydney loose it will be in Newcastle. FFA have already stated that and I can't see them going back on it.

I agree. They held a Grand Final in Adelaide. Our ground holds more people than Hindmarsh. Like you said there's no reason why it won't be.

Grand Final in Adelaide was at the Oval, not Hindmarsh. We dont have a larger alternative venue.

With a capacity of 33,000+ we don't need a larger alternative. AAMI park has a slightly lower capacity, and that is what is booked as the Melbourne option. So they wont move it for that. Hindmarsh only holds 16,000, no comparison.

FFA have been quietly pointing the refs in the right direction all season for Sydney.
Given that we're almost at capacity for tonight one would surmise that it would be in their best interests to make sure the GF goes the correct way this weekend.

Shame Smurfs don't play first - if they qualify best case scenario is us getting through and travelling down by the thousands. Plenty of room still in the away bay tonight so can't imagine many City fans will travel to the GF.

Melbourne derby on the other hand...

And how about this...Ronny's brother Roddy dropping the truth bombs on Sydney.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/melbourne-victory-great-rodrigo-vargas-urges-ref-not-to-be-caught-up-in-hype-of-sydney-fcvictory-clash/news-story/f2f1d00f08ece65ea0b429aef9e2886d

The former Victory defender also believes that Sydney FC’s midfield destroyers Brandon O’Neill and Josh Brillante are cut too much A-League slack, claiming Asian Champions League referees have taken a more hard-line stance.

If you don't make a genuine effort to include Con in the grand final plans for the club his week you can all go get ****ed.

Just remember, all of your great work this season still pales into insignificance compared to what that bloke has done.

I still believe his heart was in the right place, but his execution was plain horrid.

It's easy to trot out Andy Roberts and Cheryl Salisbury and pretend everything is perfect. But shining a light on some of our hiccups and giving the city a chance to revisit (with hindsight) may bring everyone back into the fold for the greater good.

And I also don't think a gypo who's been here 2 minutes should be deciding how 'we' celebrate the clubs a achievement.

Tinks is an evil fat grubby league cvnt whose past has been expunged from any record or any part of football history.

No cvnt will ever speak of his name in any postive light ever again.

I can see why he was trying to write a feel good story about both teams, but seriously let the Jets have their own moment in the sun. The Knoughts are doing alright but hardly setting the world on fire - they’ve been absolutely belted 3 times already in 8 games and there’s a long way to go.

I agree re: Merrick. Arnie hasn’t done anything special this year except keep their team ticking over from last, and having the luck of not having to change his XI very often. Ernie has overcome a wooden spoon team plus setback after setback after setback to continuously keep us up the top.

Adrian will get POTY. Would love to see Champness beat Arzani to YPOTY but canÂ’t see it. Joey has notched 5 goals & 2 assists and been reasonably consistent, also assisting the goal that beat City. Arzani’s had a good run from mid-season on but the end product isn’t there, 2 goals (1 pen) and 3 assists. Arzani will probs win it just because.

GOTY is easily McGree. No question. The fact itÂ’s so fresh too will help but when enough people call it best goal in a-league history, it’s hard to see it being outdone by Nabbout’s, as awesome as his strike was.

Nonsense. Stubbins didn't want him, and released him at a time Adelaide had adopted a strategy of using South Australian players where possible.

On ticketmaster resale, it shows the ticket number, bay, seat number etc. I am sure there would be records of the buyers name of those tickets.
Or does this present a privacy issue?

Hopefully the members who missed out can get their hands on these FFA tickets and atleast get themselves in, if not their families!

We don't have a lot of options centrally. Squad space is the issue from our end. His desire to play more than a back up could be barrier at his end.

I don't think you can classify Joey as a back up striker. Being an attacking player who can score goals doesn't make you a striker.

We absolutely need a good young striker. But we shouldn't be looking for a back up, we should be looking for someone to fight Roy for a position.

An argument can be made that Nabbout was just as effective up front this year as Roy was.

Wasting spots and cash on benchwarmers in case of a Roy injury/suspension takes us back to the BK/Biraz days.

Ernie ain't playing that game.

I tend to agree with LRO.. I think Nabbout did a fine job up front, and he did pick up the role well. I think when Joey has played up front he has really struggled, and with Nabbout gone I would definitely be up for having another player capable of stepping into Roy's shoes if needs be. Whether that's a backup striker or a winger who can play up top as well.

Never leave your team! I remember sitting there on a hot Sunday afternoon probably 6 years ago watching us lose to Perth Glory 4-0 and the crowd was maybe 4,000.

I have thought it many times over the year “why do I do this?” answer is always the same. I love this team and what else would I be doing?
After 13 years as a member and 10 or so lean ones, I cannot explain this feeling! I’m not nervous yet as I still don’t quite believe it!

Mark325
04-05-2018, 02:50 PM
with only two roster spots left, getting a back-up striker is really dependent I feel on how you fill up the other attacking roles. Assuming we don't keep ronny and pato on, you've got Dimi & Roy as our two consistent starters in the front third. If you feel one of Hoff or Champness are capable of being starting XI from the jump, then you fill the other spot with a marquee and get a back-up striker who can fill in for roy. However, if you don't view them as starters and feel we need two more spots in the front, then you sign two starting wingers, maybe one of them can be a back-up striker if need me similar to nabbs, or you let one of hoff or champness try and be a striker

Joey became the new Nabbout when Nabbout became the new Roy who then became the new Nabbout making Nabbout the new Joey forcing Joey to become the new Hoffman who became the new Pato until Roy became the new Nabbout (who was the old Roy) pushing Nabbout back to being the new Joey who then became the new Nabbout (when he left for Japan) who can then become the new Roy unless Thurgate becomes the new Roy or if Roy remains the same Roy all season next year and we won't have to worry about any of it.

Obviously not.

true. 6-8 weeks i reckon.

even more of a glaring issue for me is that we had 3 head injuries in the one game and yet not a single one was assessed as having concussion.

I think FIFA/FFA/AFC need to look at a concussion policy that permits a replacement player while a player is assessed for concussion.

Roy's defence is that the contact he received earlier from Berishas elbow affected his judgement.

Had Berisha been sent off I think the likelihood of O'Donovan kicking Thomas are pretty much zero.

If Referees are willing to let Melb Victory get away with grubby shit all night [not just the Berisha elbow] then it's to be expected that players are going to eventually get frustrated.

I've experienced it myself and it makes you do things you normally wouldn't do.

I honestly think there was no malice in what Roy did. Poor challenge, yeah, and red card deserved. But I don't think there was any intent to contact Thomas or cause him harm.

He has shown how committed he is to trying to get onto the end of crosses all year, its not the first time he's collided with a keeper both going for a 50-50 ball. From memory, I think him reinjuring his groin was due to stretching for a ball and copping a hit from the keeper.

I think its possible that the elbow did impact his decision making, whether through actual visual impairment or just being a bit woozy.

Either way, the hyperbole from media has frustrated me.

It was incredibly dangerous but I’d like to think they take into account the context of the game and desperation to get a toe on the ball, plus his knock from earlier. No-one can deny its reckless, but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as bad as blatantly head butting which he got 8 weeks for. Does intent come into it? I think Bramas challenge on Gameiro was far more brutal. What did he cop for that? 6?

Immediately thought of Mane situation.
I mean, if he actually gets to the ball and gets a flick on toward goal and Thomas arrives late and gets him, what happens?

I don’t know if they are allowed/supposed to talk about intent. Nobody can prove anything either way. They will say he meant to cause harm, we will say that he went for the ball and was so focussed etc.

How long was Smeltz suspended for?

I think 3-4 weeks.

Muscat can’t even comment on it surely. I rewatched his red card tackle where he makes contact above he knee and is horizontal. Grub.

But it’s understood Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory, Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers are the clubs who will be in the market for recognised name players next season.

But any player, be it Griff, Iniesta or Pato needs to be signed for their footballing ability only, and their ability to contribute to a winning team.

I haven't completely written off Cowburn yet, as he came into a side underperforming as a whole. But he didn't offer a lot while he was there. Potentially is an option as the bread and butter DM, but was outshone well and truly by Kanta and Uga (when he played that role alongside McGree) in that role from what we've seen so far.

Needs to show a bit more to be in the picture for a starting spot imo.

You're right - he needs to show more.

Perhaps he might think his best position is midfield, but his best football for us has been played at fullback. Hoffy was signed as a striker originally but to keep a position in the team had to transition to become a right back. Maybe that's the approach Nick will take next year.

How would the visa situation work with a "50/50" team?

and another Leaguee talking bout that form of football they usually don't dare speak its name

Also noted Butterfield couldn't even mention the Jets by name.

Same with that Herald "opinion piece" criticising Jets fans for leaving before the presentation, these people don't know the game but are spurred to comment because it was the sporting event of the week.

I stayed and watched the trophy hand out

But quite frankly Dillion can get ****ed

Bet you the Scousers are out of there at FT when CR7 and co get the UCL crown in a couple of weeks

Reality is in Europe half the fans are gone for the trophy Hand out any way after a final

Anybody seen Craig Johnston’s open letter in herald?
On phone atm so can’t do a fancy link.
https://www.theherald.com.au/story/5395952/craig-johnstons-letter-to-football-federation-australia-over-the-grand-final-debacle/

What is happening.
I don’t think I’ve cringed as much for a while.
He makes some good points, but the overall feel is a bit awkward.

Yep, it’s making us all look like sore losers who have never watched a football match before or seen a game decided by a ref mistake. I’m over it, and if I can be, so can the ‘100,000’ noobs who got excited about these ‘Jets?’ for the first time ever last week.

Just give us a GF rematch in the first round next season, and get the Oils to perform live beforehand.

Why do we need an apology??

It aint like this is the first time in the history of football a decision has gone against a side

The FFA are ****ing idiots and have created this shit storm by their bullshit announcement less than 24 hours after the result that the VAR failed

All they had to do was shut their mouth and the eye sight challenged officials cop the blame

But showing how good they are at shooting thermselves in the foot they open their mouths when silence is required

That article from Craig Johnston is cringe worthy

We lost
We copped an incorrect decision

Lets just take it like good sports and stop having a sulk about it

Last i looked football is a game like life

It isnt fair balanced and just
But you have to accept what comes your way

Maybe we need to cop it on the chin and move on and stop the child like we was robbed BS

I accept the result but this is a chance to rattle the FFA glass house.
If this was Sydney FC there would be federal enquiries, Bozza rants, Four Corners stories and all sorts of bizarre suggestions similar to Johnno's. They would be given Iniesta on a plate.
The bigger picture is to get the message to IFAB that the VAR is a farce.

Rattle their house ??

I think we all in aggreeance that Gallop and co need to go

As for VAR well there are some matches being played in Russia next month and the month after
Not sure which one it will be but only take 1 VAR incident to see the death of it

Hope it is an England game just for shits and giggles

I am with Jetmaster here. Without being all over the ins and outs of the FFA's corporate structure ( anybody who does know please jump in ) but if they receive any federal concessions or federal Govt funding there SHOULD BE a inquiry in to the governance of the FFA. This body should not be getting any concessions or financial assistance whatsoever whilst there is clearly dereliction of duty within it. Time and time again the same cock ups arise and yet nobody seems to be held accountable.

If anything there is a culture of circle the wagons scratch each others back and wait til bad shit blows over.

i can kind of see your point, but don't forget FIFA take a very dim view of any government interference (or even the perception of it) in football matters. The cynic in me thinks this is because it might curtail the ease with which FIFA can adjust anything to suit their professional (or personal) needs.

Out of curiosity why are the natives at the other 9 clubs not getting restless and stirring the pot with protests at HAL games

I can understand why Jets fans have been distracted by onfield success but the NT and RBB usually cant wait to take pot shots at the FFA over the slightest grievance

Why exactly is the football community actually tolerating the ineptitude ??

There are massive problems in thge game in this country and the VAR is the least of them. The FFA seem to have no plan and everything is a knee jerk reaction

Why are we not lynching them and running Gallop and co out of town ourselves???

I don't know eh, But it dead set drives me insane there is no accountability at FFA HQ.

As someone who spent the best part of 25 years dealing with business of all sizes from Mum & Dad operations right up to Mass Merchants it beggars belief some of these blokes at the FFA still have a job to go to. They would not last 5 mins in a role out in the real world. Out in the real world they would not get the opportunity to hide behind the threat of charging somebody with a good old bringing the game into disrepute should somebody dare question there competence.

If Gallop was of decent character he would look at himself in the mirror and ask is the game in a better position now than when he started. We all know what the answer to that is and what that would mean for him. As for Wilson he needs to do the same, not withstanding the VAR and its shortcomings his officials have had one of the worst seasons since the inception of the A League and that is on him. How many times do you look at a game and think the officials have had more of a say in the outcome than the players.

But this comes back down to the stakeholders in this game not keeping them accountable.

They basically allowed to get away with it as there is not enough of an uprising to hold them to account

There is an apathy from the footballing community to get change to happen

We all see it needs to occur.

These idiots at FFA are only holding onto power as long as they are allowed to so they can keep getting a pay cheque

It high time they were issued with a DCM

The organisation is rotten to the core and I would prefer another Crawford Report moment

Hopefully this time we get things right tjis time

Get a fair and equitable governing body who are accountable to all in the game and we also fold the State Federations who have consistently ****ed this game in self interest for decades
