we've got an 18yo (yes I know hes not Newy youth) starting CB. Is that not young enough? and a 19yo at LB. Why the call for more youth? Not saying Fyfe is an awesome option either.

15? so fkn what. Got to start somewhere. People are playing PROFESSIONALLY at 17-18, you think they never sat on the bench of a reserve grade FAR better and/or physical than what the A-league dishes out each week?

So in the same conversation I've read that we (fans) don't want to promote youth, we do want to promote youth, signing a young bloke from another club was a bad idea and signing Fyfe is a bad idea because he's too old... It's a mid season injury crisis so there wouldn't be many blokes in their primes hanging about with no clubs. So what does the club do? Like it genuinely seems impossible to please.

He should have played De Godoy before even signing Koutrumbis, but I guess he is his love child. Fyfe is a good signing, there was no one else really available, the only option wold have been to get an injury replacement and the push hard for Spiranovic or Curtis Good in January.

    Welcome to life.

You will always have people for or people against.

Me, I would have preferred them to pick up someone from our youth or local NPL. I don't think Fyfe has anything to offer, that some of the locals couldn't. You can say he has experience - he hasn't played in the competition for 2 years. It's completely different and he is 2 years older. He may prove me, and many more wrong, and be a great acquisition but I don't see it.

Jones himself said, he will only be an asset if he can get back to the pace and rigours of the league.

    Sums it up perfectly.

Between Jackson, Cowburn, Koutroumbis, Vujica, Duncan, etc, I don't think the club can be accused of not giving youth a decent chance. We need a defender that was willing to come on short notice (McKain wasn't), and someone who knows the A-league, or at least the standard expected of them. If he can provide a steady influence on the rest of the backline for a few weeks, that's all we need. This isn't the time to throw another youngster to the wolves.

The young players getting slaughtered 40mins down the road every game last season certainly don't appear any better for it this season.

And can someone name these NNSW NPL defenders that could immediately slot in and steady the ship for a month?

And before Jon Mckain is mentioned, there is a reason he was playing in Malaysia. He isn't that good and is very comparable to Fyfe.
We actually approached McKain. He declined the 'opportunity'.

who cares if they are local or not. They should be selected to play on merit. The only way you will know if they are good enough is if they are given a go. Some will work out some won't. I'd rather see that happen than just go out and replace someone.

I've got no concerns playing De Godoy when the time is right. My fear is playing him now, in a back line next to Koutroumbis (3 appearances) and Vujica (6 appearances) doesn't have the required experienced head next to them to guide them through a game.

We all saw what happened to the Mariners when they played with inexperience last year. It was a farce.

Hopefully Kanta can beat the clock and play.

    Exactly.

Nicky Carle was 15 when he played in the NSL for Sydney Olympic.

Except the GK wasn't in line because he was necessarily good enough, it was because our stocks were so low he was next by default. Carle is a whole different kettle of fish, not to mention slotting into a team that presented next to zero pressure on his shoulders.

And the fact you've compared a GK with an attacker who can play with freedom and not necessarily cost his team goals.
