This (https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/27995389) article announces the signing on 24 June 2014, which was the day after our last game against Spain.

Nope. Behind paywall - https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/football/world-cup/aleague-clubs-who-field-players-at-world-cup-to-land-153-million-in-new-fifa-compensation-system/news-story/310ef655edb6c410dcc543f668da0f05

Newcastle Jets = $360,400
Dimi Petratos $195,400
Andrew Nabbout $171,000

A-LEAGUE clubs will reap a minimum $1.53 million World Cup windfall thanks to generous new compensation being paid by FIFA for Russia 2018 participants.

Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets are the biggest winners under a complex formula, that will land them $440,000 and $360,000 respectively.

Daniel Arzani’s meteoric rise has proven lucrative for City, who’ll net a staggering $300,000 after Bert van Marwijk picked him in the final 23-man squad.

It pays off their Arzani investment and then some, with City believed to have spent around $110,000 on the winger – his annual salary has been $47,000 per annum for the past two seasons. His wage rises to almost $140,000 next season.

City will also receive an unexpected $147,000 for Tim Cahill, with the “Club Benefits Programme”, which rewards World Cup players’ clubs of the past two years.

The Jets have benefited for van Marwijk’s faith in Dimi Petratos and Andrew Nabbout, netting $196,000 and $170,000 respectively.

It virtually covers the Jets’ costs, with Petratos and Nabbout – while he was at the club - earning $200,000 and $100,000 per season respectively.

When Nabbout’s $500,000 transfer is factored in they’ve made a handsome profit, while Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds will get an instant $120,000 return on their Nabbout investment.

Sydney FC will receive $253,000 for Matt Jurman ($155,000) and Danny Vukovic ($98,000) while Josh Risdon’s switch to Western Sydney has netted the Wanderers $196,000 – similar to their hitherto outlay for the right-back.

Despite not having a player at the World Cup, Brisbane Roar are set for a $159,000 boon via former attackers Jamie Maclaren ($98,000) and Petratos ($61,000).

Melbourne Victory missed out a $270,000-plus bonanza when James Troisi missed the cut, but they’ll still bank $47,000 thanks to former players Mark Milligan ($41,000).

Josh Risdon (R) gave the Wanderers and Glory a handsome cash injection. Perth Glory’s role in Risdon’s international emergence will be rewarded with a handsome $100,000 cheque.

Overseas clubs will mainly benefit from the Socceroos’ qualification, with Celtic (Tom Rogic), Bursaspor (Aziz Behich), Luzern (Tomi Juric), Feyenoord (Brad Jones) and QPR (Massimo Luongo) receiving the full $300,000 whack for their players as they’ve been there for the past two years.

Mile Jedinak (Aston Villa) and Milos Degenek (Yokohama F Marinos) will bank their clubs in excess of $250,000.

City will cash in on Tim Cahill despite the star’s ugly exit from the club. The total distributions will rise if the Socceroos can advance to the knockout phase, with $11,270 (US$8530) on offer for each player’ club(s) for every extra day they compete at the World Cup beyond the group phase.

The initial “total per player” amount is multiplied by the number of days each player is at the World Cup, starting two weeks before their opening game.

FIFA’s US$209 million total distribution has risen substantially from Brazil 2014 (US$70m) and South Africa 2010 (US$40m), when it was introduced.

We were talking to Leige, as Lawrie said. If we can't match what the loaning club wants, or what the player wants then we've tried what we can. We don't have much squad space, so you'd assume cap space is pretty tight. Plus McGree came for a pittance (again what Lawrie has said to us on the pod) so we were going to have to pay much more to get him again this season.

I reckon we tried but couldn't meet the (justified) demands from either or both parties.

Patio had potential to be huge in this league but isn’t a huge loss in terms of actual output last year.
Nabbout is easily the biggest loss, doesn’t really need to be pointed out.
Fact is defensively we are similar to last year except keeper.
Attacking we have Dimi, Roddy, Joey, Roy, Hoff and one more quality inclusion, possibly another decent one on top of that. We are looking genuinely strong, particularly if that one player of quality performs like some of Ernie’s (and Griffs) other signings.

Ernie is also really talking up Roddy, I am thinking a full season for him and he may push JW medal status!
Holding on to Dimi is important though, my optimism could drop if he leaves for overseas.

Lowy has gone out of his way to alienate so many football fans in this country by his disregard for democracy and his policies that are based on race

He has divided the football community for his own ego and you actually think this is a good thing??

His NCIP is a joke and it would be interesting to see the reaction if something like that was suggested by Pauline Hanson to be brought into the wider community

Wrong. The termed "wogball game" was totally broken. Lowy made massive improvements but still needs more work.

Lowy only took power away from the incompetent that was holding the back and it hs largely worked. How dare he.

The A-league clubs simply aren't producing anywhere near the number of high quality players that the NSL did - especially strikers now that clubs import rather than develop them.
We definitely had issues in the past but today we have gone to the opposite extreme with clubs that are essentially vanilla / generic.

just on this, has anyone ever explained why A-League clubs cant transfer players between them?

Because this seems like the kind of idea that will enable poor clubs to make some money (lets face it, a 'good' A-League player has a better chance of being sought after in his own country rather than OS) and let wealthier clubs spend their money however they see fit AND potentially promote better 'locals' rather than having a pot shot on an 'unknown' foreigner?

Also, from a strictly PR point of view having a player leave and club then head back and play them is a promoters dream. Geez, the only thing the Gypos got excited about (outside of dole day) was when Roy came back and shit all over them.
the more blokes like Roy that rub salt into that pathetic club can only be a good thing for the league overall yeah?

and even though that whole 'rich getting richer' debate will be raised, i mean, we do already have a salary cap, AND Citeh have already got a workaround to the issue, so why not let everyone go nuts?

Is that a good thing? Having 9 or 10 professional clubs controlling football in the country?

While I don’t agree with the way ffa have run it, I don’t think the aleague clubs should have much more voting than they already have. Expand the Congress, but bring in more people from the various facets of the game; coaches, players; match officials; volunteers; administrators; spectators; active support; women’s football; beach football; futsal; modified formats of the game, from across the spectrum, be it professional, to semi professional to amateur.

The aleague clubs should not be running the game.

The aleague itself? Maybe, but I’m wary of where that lead with the NSL. I’d prefer a somewhat even comp than to have clubs falling by the wayside trying to match the spending that other clubs are doing.

yeah sorry lemme edit that for a little minute.

I want the FFA* running the game. I want them to outline a 100 year plan ( a constitution of sorts) from mini-roos through to national team operations. I want them to have a long term framework for the A-League, eg I want them to say "in 2022 there will be 16 teams. In 2030 there will be a second division with promotion/relegation, heres how the 2nd division works etc etc etc. If we need a salary cap then outline it. These knee jerk decisions they make with the A-League are a joke. They need to get out of the day to day operations of the game.

I want the A-League clubs running the A-League. From TV deals, to sponsorship, to their own youth development. If the clubs were smart they would partner with local federations to get their players. But if they want to go solo and just pay top dollar for juniors then fine. That way a piss poor club like the Gypos may at least have a chance of 'selling' players to other clubs etc in order to pay the bills. If our billionaire owner wants to do it via his other clubs in Europe/Asia then awesome. We no longer have travel agents and Amway salesmen owning clubs. Let the ego filled rich pricks swing their dicks. Lets face it, all the parity rules the FFA have in place are a joke anyway. Citeh found a way around it, Sydney just lean on the FFA to get what they want, why bother trying to make things 'fair'.

If the A-League owners want to change any aspect of the constitution they go to the FFA* for approval. That way they are reliant on an independent arbiter to decide any major changes.

I want the federations running junior development, from mini-roos through to NPL level. I want the NPL clubs to get money from player transfers, the new system implemented through the NPL clubs backed by the Jets makes sense. Why cant we have every A-League club partnering up?
NNSW should have zero say in what happens to the A-League, and the Socceroos. They need to know their role.

Except that my post said that the outrage was coming from mainly American media. shes very well known/respected in that league.

In fact, this year she won the ESPY for best international womens soccer player and came 2nd in best player in the American league (behind Rapinoe). That's about as American biased an awards show gets and she still got recognized.

From the world game:
During the award voting period Kerr scored 33 goals in 34 games for both club and country as well as breaking the record for most goals in an NWSL season with 17.
She was also named AFC Women's Player of the Year, Julie Dolan medal winner, PFA Women's Player of the Year, Golden Boot winner in the NWSL and W-League as well as Young Australian of the Year.

For me personally, on a national team level I would prefer to watch her play than any of the members of the Socceroos squad ( I know my opinion doesn't matter).
