fantastic to see Triple-J taking over the mantle of mocking itself rather than relying on us smart people to do it for them.
serious, they are a bigger disc-race than the Jets.
Fold the club, fold the radio station.

If were talking triple J I'm inclined to agree though rarely listen to it anymore cause every time I do I swear I hear the same crap that is on the other stations. (could be the time of day i was listening to it) Also this top 100 or 200? was rubbish how Hands Like Houses doesn't get in the top 50 let alone top 100 is a travesty
We have so many radio station available on the internet why restrict ourselves to this homegrown shit ?
https://www.internet-radio.com/ has over 41,000 stations.
I can remember the original double j on am radio.
All gone to shit since.
I never understood the love for 2JJ / 2JJJ - it's always been the type of club I never wanted to be a member of.
I didn't mind the punk era stuff they played in the 70's and early 80's - but that's about it.
THe names might have changed but it's always been for the hipsters

There's music on there I don't like. And some hosts I don't like, but in general I like it more than other stations when I'm in the car. I've found its broadened my musical tastes a bit by exposing me to songs and genres I wouldn't have otherwise listened to a while ago. And the main reason I like it is there are a lot of songs I hear on there that aren't necessarily huge songs or massively popular, but are refreshing to me to hear because they're just different and I wouldn't hear them anywhere else.
I do agree that the directions of JJJ and pop music at the moment are a lot closer than in the past. Is this coincidence or is it just that Triple J has become a lot more popular in the last 10 years and so it pretty much is the mainstream now - whatever is a big success on there, the commercial stations have no issues about chucking into super rotation on their own playlists. Personally I'd like the balance to be a bit more back towards rock and guitar bands than it is at the moment but I don't mind the producer/electronic style prevalent at the moment too much.
Turn it on, and its one of three things:
1 - Some dusky voiced chick playing an acoustic guitar..
2 - Some French DJ (or fvcking Flume)
3 - Aussie hip hop..
Anyway, some brilliant gigs coming up over the next couple of months for anyone in to some metal..
February 3 - Periphery, The Metro, Sydney
February 14 - Psycroptic + King Parrot + Revocation, Cambridge Hotel, Newy
February 26 - Animals As Leaders - The Metro, Sydney
March 3 - Killswitch Engage + Fallujah, Enmore Theatre, Sydney (KsE playing their debut album, Alive Or Just Breathing, in its entirety!!!!)
March 12 - Meshuggah, Enmore Theatre, Sydney
April 23 - Protest The Hero, Small Ballroom, Newy
May 12 - The Faceless + The Black Dahlia Murder, Manning Bar, Sydney

Bon, you would love a disc gofer by the name of Gregg Barsby. He wore headphones for a lot of his rounds last weekend, said one of his favourite bands of all time was from Tasmania (and you're seeing them in Feb...) and was chilling out to Meshuggah, Hate Eternal and the aforementioned (or at least alluded to) Psycroptic for most of the event.
I've got Devy coming up in May.
Mate, might have to look in to this disc golf legend then.. haha
Croppers are MASSIVE in Europe and US.. Its a shame that a band from Tassy are loved and looked-up-to and credited as an influence to all these huge bands over there, but are relatively unheard of here (outside of metal circles anyway)..
Where is Heavy Devy playing at?
Enmore, 22nd May.
I fly back from SA that same day after running a disc golf tournament the previous four days (why does everything come back to DG?)
Listened to the new Sepultura whilst in Perth... think I might load that up again today.
New Mastodon and Ayreon coming soon too.
Complete change of scene... the new John Mayer is pretty decent.![]()
