Nabbout has proved himself to be ahead of him in the pecking order. What's with the sudden fapfest about the bloke? A couple of good moments and everyone banging on like he's the Chinese Messi. He needs to keep showing. In my opinion he needs 3/4 more quality showings off the bench. And maybe if we have the luxury of giving nabbout a rest. There is also the possibility of resting Hoole but for all his shit moments Hoole really does create a shitload of chances. Converting them is another story. Also I think Nabbout plays better on the left and I don't think you'd play Ma on the right
We'll find out soon - Hoole is bound to get his fifth yellow card and get a suspension.

What about going after george Blackwood at Sydney. Obviously down the pecking order there but looks to be a very good number 9 at a very young age. Aussie. Cheap. Can start to build a team around these guys. Add in the mix vidosic. And you're starting to build some very good depth up top

Good shout but I reckon Sydney rate him too much to let him leave fore nothing.

Imagine Scotty mac with brown in behind. Height galore.
I think scotty mac has actually been playing a bit of no10 the last few years. Would probably work best if we could get Kokko leading the line and scotty playing the knock downs

O'Caravan would be an instant hit here, runs end to end all match, scores outta nowhere, imagine what he'd be like in a half decent squad? (**which probably means Melb Shitty will sign him)
carn Lawrie, make it happen! would far rather sign him than have wankles back...
Hunter403

I'd like either. McDonald scores regularly in Scotland and would do well in tha A League. O'Caravan (like it!) is a pain in the neck full of "mongrel". Would do well in our side. We'd have to get him steam cleaned first tho...

agree, there's about three names there that would be first team (O'Caravan I'd take in an instant, a maybe on Williams and Reddy though, both can be temperamental in the wrong way), of the rest some are squaddies others youth league fillers, and why would we wanna pay overs for Neville, Lustica or Petratos when we have better players in our squad right now?

I would definitely take the gypo and I hope we get Williams, im a big fan of his regardless of this season. Reddy is a good enough player but he has had too many chances and is obviously a dick. The other guys I agree we already have players of the same level (or better) in our squad so wouldn't waste time on it unless one of players on that level left for decent money and these guys came at a cheaper price.

Apparently Lustica is going back to Hadjuk, so perhaps we can cross that name off.

Haven't we already decided that Kokko hasn't played because of achilles injury and then broken jaw?
Or have we come back to the idea that he was Miller's signing and Jones doesn't want to use Miller's signings (except for the rest of the squad which is basically Miller's)?

Kokko is potentially our most dangerous striker given a proper run in the squad, he's shown glimpses but has not had the game time to make it happen yet, if Jones doesn't rate him that reflects more on Jones' myopia than it does on Kokko's ability...

Some Footballers arnt the best trainers but come game day they shine. Maybe Kokko is of this mold. However we CANNOT afford to release or sell him without even giving him a run of games. If he steps up and bags some goals then we dont need to waste money on a striker and can spend it on a winger or CAM instead. I dont think Brown is creative enough for CAM and Clut isnt getting consistent game time

Hoffman is one of the better defensive fullbacks in the league.
Hoff is a steady and generally reliable defender. He has made few mistakes this year in his defensive role.
There are some things that also need to be considered when discussing Hoff:
1. When defending he has little help from the 7 position. Hoole provides little assistance for him and often reacts after the opposition left back has gone forward and there is an overload on Hoff.
2. Hoff has rarely gone forward this season. Either on Jones' instructions or because he knows that if the ball is lost it will be on him to get back and he might well doubt Hoole's ability to assist him.
While Hoff is not the best right back in the league he is up there toward the top. If he can improve going forward and crossing then Wolfman might well be right

Last year Alivodic actually done a shit load of work tracking back and assisting Hoffman making him look good to earn a new deal.

They do have 2nd marquee spot open, and wunderkid DDS would probably qualify. If not him, they could probably move Keogh to marquee and DDS under the cap.
I thought DDS was headed (back?) to Roma anyway..

Lot of names thrown around is the closest we will get to signing someone this window (my opinion)
Kokko needs the chance to prove his worth. I believe we should be looking at a 9 or 10 with brown back into the 6/8 role or he remains where he is and target another hard working midfielder
All in all with the space in the the squad free and some decent options about strengthening of the squad is needed to keep the form going

And yes Nabbout scored a header. Nordstrand got out jumped and Theo spilled the ball.
Apart from set pieces where Boogaard has won the header I don't recall our front 4 getting a headed goal this year.
Low crosses, Clut to Nabbout is one I remember but that was within the box. Again, I don't recall any low balls played in from out wide creating goals.

That because we dont play that wide.
It one of the reasons why we are effective.
Nabbout and Raheem Sterling are cutting in straight at goal all the time.
As a result we are much closer to the support in the 9/10/6/8
So in short we are not isolating players too much with the ball and no one to pass to.
And when we do get it through quickly we are away

I think what Member is saying actually makes sense. We are playing a style which suits our playing group, as opposed to be fixed on a system and flogging it to death at all costs (more GVE era than Miller). We don't have out and out wingers (because our players cant cross a ball to save their lives) but in and around the box they are quite effective (Nabbout more so than Hoole obviously) and the systems is obviously set up to get players in those more effective positions more regularly. We need a Plan B, but considering Plan A hasn't worked for about 6 years at least we look like we may have an effective one of those now.

Realistically who can we bring in?
Bulut? we all saw how he went a WSW, plus theres the fact about how he would fit into the dressing room.
There is no one else really out there unless you take a punt on a young striker like a Kwame Yeboah or a Peter Skapetis.
Other than upfront do we need reinforcements anywhere else? There was talks of Spiranovic but I dont think he'll come back to the A-league. Bruce Djite also been relegated with his team in Korea, doubt he would take up a move to anywhere but Adelaide if he had to play in the league, but then again $$$ talks.
Also been told they are trying to re-sign Johnny K, his dad I believe is his agent or main decision maker, may want him to come home to Adelaide with them having a whole heaps of players, notably defenders out of contract.

Rumor is that his not to happy in China and is looking for a move elsewhere. Although it would be very unlikely for us as Guangzhou would most likely seek a transfer fee.

Same can probably be said for Burns. He doesn't play a whole lot over there.
Surely these guys can see that playing in the A-league is better for their national team chances than sitting on the pine in China.

We could only realistically look at releasing Kokko, which would cost the club a lot considering he is still in his first year.
People saying Burns or Giannou, you dont think the coaches have already identified those targets and approached them?
Was anyone at training this morning? I went, looks as if Devante will be left out. Also saw Lei Lei had a bit of a dummy spit at Jones, after Jones told him not to use the outside of his foot.

I thought it was his best performance to date. His passing at times was average (Straight to perth) but he also made a fair few fantastic passes and some lovely one touch/flick passes that lead to chances.
He is our best deadball player, easily.

If it was my choice......With Hoole out and if Brown isn't fit, Noddy at 10, Kokko at 9 and a toss up between Ma and Clut on the right. Clut for his energy; Ma for his deadball work.
If Brown is fit, Kokko at 9 and Brown at 10 with Noddy taking Hoole's spot.
However I think Jones will play safe if Brown is out and go with what he had last weekend. Ma at 10, Noddy at 9 and Clut replacing Hoole. If Brown is fit then Ma will play instead of Hoole.

I'm still strung on Kokko. A lot of people calling for longer game time but there's been no opportunity where we are up by a few goals to bring him on. Yeh ok he's getting limited game time but that's football. Numerous other players take their shot when given even if it's for 10 mins. Sometimes you need a bit of luck but also in my opinion you should be giving it everything you've got even if it is for a limited period of time. We don't have the luxury of trying players to see if they're any good. Every game is critical for where we are on the table

I thought he struggled a bit on the weekend / didn't impress, but I also feel like our team had been playing a particular way for 80 minutes which was long balls / balls in behind, and Kokko came on into this style of play which isn't his strength. I feel the other games where he has dropped in off the defensive line and received it either to feet or even chest/head he has looked very good but we didn't look to use his hold up play hardly at all against Glory. We also hardly had any set pieces once he was brought on due to Glory's stifling of the last 15 minutes of the game. I would love to see him be given a chance with Nordstrand behind him next week now that Hoole is out. Put Ma onto the left wing and bring Clut on at #10 around 65 minutes give or take 15 depending on how Nobby is going in the game.

Maybe the bloke ain't playing because he isn't the type of player the coach wants??
Judging by Jones continual selection of Clut Nordstrand Brown up front and his chasing of Weak Ankles maybe he wants a smart type of players in the 9 role rather than a lumbering target man.

So what is with the Kokko wankfest? ?
Maybe the bloke ain't playing because he isn't the type of player the coach wants??
Judging by Jones continual selection of Clut Nordstrand Brown up front and his chasing of Weak Ankles maybe he wants a smart type of players in the 9 role rather than a lumbering target man.

Sunday was the first game I've seen for about 6 weeks, had a lovely holiday thanks for asking, the football we played this week was a 1000% improvement on what I saw earlier in the season.

I feel like Jones deserves credit for the style of football were playing and getting more out of certain players. However he must change the way he manages his subs and player fatigue, Im worried hell will keep a player on who is exhausted as he does now and they will break down injured, kinda like how he kept Nabbout on against the mariners when he copped a knock and then missed a few weeks.

Kokko was the only Jets player who looked dangerous in the ****ing pitiful home display against the Gypos, and most of his time on the park was with a broken Jaw. Bloke needs more of a go this weekend IMO.
And with the members fapfest over Jones. I agree the last couple of weeks we have improved but this is the same bloke who played 5 at the back at HOME against Sydney, that seems pretty bus like to me, more so than Miller ever did. AND he has never coached a team to a win against the Mariners. I still cannot get that insipid home performance against the worst Mariners team I have ever seen out of my head yet, to start drinking the members coolaid, and think Jones is the messiah.

Yeah true but there are exceptions. But if he isnt getting the service and Jones actual plans to use Kokko (remains to be seen) Then he needs to find a style or tactic to get the best out of Kokko. Hence why i keep going on about getting a winger that can actually cross.

I'm pretty sure i've read somewhere on these forums about a guy who always says that if we aren't aiming for the top 4 then we should fold the club. I wonder if that person thinks that this squad and coach are top 4 quality yet?
But seriously. No one should be truly unhappy as we are improved from last year and sometimes play football that is exciting (not always enjoyable but exciting).
By the same token no one should be truly happy until we have achieved slightly more than 1 loss away from being outside the 6.
We still have many problems but Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was London, Paris, Wichita, Reykjavik, Pyongyang or basically any other city/town. That is a dumb saying.

tbh that should be our bare minimum expectations for paying money to go see them play. They're professional footballers getting paid a decent amount of coin - "trying" hard is the floor not the benchmark.

I though not holding the current coach responsible for it.
He inherited this cluster**** of a side 3 weeks before the season and has had zero transfer input so far.
What he has done is shown that he can create something positive with the resources he has at his disposal.

You've just described Miller's season to a tee, except the cluster**** he was following was ****ing worse than what 'poor Jones' has had to follow. Miller also had the FFA as owners, not a rich Chinese businessman. Miller's signings so far, especially Nabbout, which puzzled most of us at the time, have proven to be quite useful to Jones. I've said it before, I don't want him to fail so I can say I told you so, just stop pretending that he's worked miracles while simultaneously acting like Miller was Stubbins v2 when in reality they've both served up fairly identical results so far.
On another day, Perth would have killed us. Castro missed a sitter, and hit the bar two other times, Taggart should have scored if it wasn't for Duncan, and our penalty was a gift. I don't remember too many instance where we seriously threatened their goal.

He played at the 2005 U17 World cup in Peru, and was a NYL player for Adelaide United as well. He just never got a call up into the senior team. So it's not a case of being a late bloomer it's more a case of getting an opportunity.

A bloke I know who used to be involved with Adelaide City told me he was trialling last week and reckoned he was quite a handy player. He played for them in that NPL finals series against Sydney and seemed to have a pretty strong game. Will be interesting to see how he goes if he gets a chance. Where is he fitting in I wonder, a winger to sit on the bench to replace whichever of the starters (Hoole, Nabbout) is tiring the most? Nabbout in particular seems to fall off in effectiveness late in games so could be a good option.

Results are not the issue.
Miller got his results parking the bus and playing negative football hoping the opposition had an off day and he cashed in.
Basically short term thinking
Jones is getting his results going toe to toe with opposition
Basically long term thinking
To say Miller had a hard gig is a massive over statement.
The two easiest gigs in the HAL recently are Millertime taking over after Muppet was here and Okon taking over at Gypos from Walmsley.
Basically expectation is low and being semi competitive and getting the occasional win keeps the plebs happy
What Jones has done is take a shit side and go about changing the mentality of the squad. We are now having a go and not playing like cowards like we have for the last 8 years.
We ain't getting the results right now. But we are going to be getting them in the future.
On most days Perth would have beaten us. That being said in future we will have the confidence and the ability to carve them up and beat them.
If you want to compare the two blokes I point something out to you right now.
This year we are a legitimate playoff prospect. Whether we get there or not isn't the issue. We are a legitimate chance as the way we play will see us pick up points as the season progresses.
Last year under Miller we were never a realistic chance of making the playoffs. Sure as shit the club talked about it as they usually do nut noone actually believed them.

Your ability to argue on the internet better than others doesn't make you right.
You have every right to be happy that we are playing more enjoyable football this year. We pay money to be entertained.
But to think that Miller had little to do with it and somehow Jones has changed the personality of the team in a few months is borderline delusional.
Jones has done well and has them attacking teams much better than last year. But he couldn't defend Alcatraz from an old lady with a broom.
Miller may have been a rubbish coach in the long-term, we will never know unless he gets another HAL job, but he definitely didn't drag the club down. He steadied the ship that Stubbs has been poking holes in for awhile. Made some astute signings, and some less astute ones. Got a bit of fight in the team and then smacked himself in the face and got sacked like a petulant child.
I think you need to deal with the fact that last year we played simple football and improved slightly from the year before. This year we are being more adventurous and it's paying off. Both of those facts are good and have lead us into the top 6.
Also, it has helped that many other teams have dropped down to our level this year. WSW/Adelaide/Roar were playing much better last year.

This year they have people starting to believe in them.
We could also look at it like this.
Miller came in, when we had conceded the most amount of goals in our history and wanted to sort out and strengthen our defense. Which lead to us lacking in the final third (as we still do now).
Jones has come in after Miller has done all the hard work, working on the defense, which now allows him to focus more on the midfield and final third (which is still lacking, but is better overall).
Miller did all the hard work, with no cash, copped all the shit for it, but is the only reason we're in the position we are now.
I don't even know where to start when critiquing what Member said..

Gotta agree with the member here. Miller for almost 2 thirds of lasts season played park the bus, hope other team makes a mistake. He also spent most games bringing on defensive players regardless of the score or time of the game. Yes he gets credit for some of his signings. But end of the day he wanted to park the bus with lazy ass players like Triffo Leonardo and Carney. not to mention that 10 game run where we didnt score a goal. Jones however has our players digging deap and fighting for 90 mins as well as occasionally actually looking up and passing the ball around. You have to wonder if Miller would get out of this squad what Mr Jones is and frankly im not so sure.

Spot on. I've said this a dozen times yet it won't get through. MFKS had it in for Miller the moment he got here and bagged the guy relentlessly the entire season. Despite two wins on the coast, despite the away comeback win to City, and despite racking up 8 wins and getting our club off the bottom. Apparently getting stability and some pride back didn't mean anything if we didn't have ambition to reach top 4. This season, the results don't seem to matter and MFKS is happy we're in 7th. Anyone with common sense could see what sort of a battle Miller faced last year and he was far from perfect but made a good fist of it. I have zero doubt that he would have improved on it this year. The guy knew exactly what sort of players and team he wanted. Coincidentally, as soon as Jones strayed away from what the tactics/formation were in the off-season, the results went downhill. p.s He still hasn't beaten the coasties.

Gee, its almost like Millers legacy of having the players fit, and actually running an entire pre-season, got the players fit enough to outrun other teams.
Astonishing.
I agree, Jones has us looking dangerous going forward, but it all comes from the hard work in pre-season and Millers work/signings in defense.
This has allowed Jones to walk in and get them looking forward.

Jones just signed a 28y/o who couldn't get a decent run at Adelaide (Given they won the comp, probably pretty hard) for the next 4-5 months.
Quality signing though. Can't wait to see him not get picked.

And your point? He also signed an 18yo kid who showed up both our 'Senior" starting CBs in his non preferred position.
Miller signed that Alivodic bloke who was absolutely puss.
Where do we stop with all this? FFS just accept it and move on. We going ok. Celebrate that

You are right..
All this back and forth "he is shit", "no, he is shit".. Its as pointless as the GK debate, will never be solved..
Be a Miller-boy or a Jones-kid, lets just enjoy not being as shit as the gypos.. (or as inbred as Matt Simon)
