If the season being over was in any doubt.....

Season was over when we lost to Adelaide in Adelaide. PS: anyone else see Dan Mullen post an Instagram pic of himself challenging for a ball against City with the tagline "sexy face" sums up Saturday night. I mean ffs sounds like even some of the players are just laughing off our current form and results. Poor form especially being one of the worst performers in the team. Where is the ****ing mentality to do better.

Plus a possible release of 11 players.

Can anyone share any more information on plans or talks going on for next year?

The minimum salary for Players in the Hyundai A-League in the 2016/17 Season is:
Under 20 - $41,533 (excluding superannuation); and
20 and over - $55,715 (excluding superannuation).

minimum is the price of a tea lady

Khalfallah is better than ANY player in our current squad. As long as they don't want to pay him marquee dollars it would be our best signing ever. What are you smoking and where can I get some?

let's face it, if we sign Khalfallah, Thwaite, Messi etc they'll all end up playing like the rest of the squad after a month under Jones' guidance, so what's the point, we need to sign a new coach first before we start getting all hopeful and stuff about being competitive...

Why does it sound like the players are getting judged on the last few games. FFS judge them on the whole season and if they do its hard to see any of those players being resigned

Yeah but they actually are doing the right thing by having 11 off contract right now

Where they are wrong is publically naming the blokes they are after

To me they are adequate signing no more.
They ain't mind blowing my good and in Thwaite and Kalfallah case we actually signing them 3 years past their Best before stamps
As for the Gypo well he not that ****ing good really. He just better than what we have

As for our players off contract
Other than Raheem Sterling not one of them should be retained.
They don't deserve another deal. Spare me the BS too about loyalty etc.
Giving these blokes continual pay checks is us showing loyalty to 7th to 10th spots by accepting mediocrity

Out of curiosity, a few of us have thrown names up that'd we'd sign (I for one spoke about approaching Halloran and Burns. I'd also throw serious money at Spiranovic if he's interested in returning to the A-League and even look at Mark Milligan.).

Who would you be looking at?

"I'm not getting paid to do their ****ing jobs"
"Thats their job, to choose players that will make us better"
"If only Miller did was Jones is doing we'd have won the league this year"

The lifestyle in Newcastle is too relaxed and as a result players that come here seem to switch off. I don't think it's the coaching because it seems to happen no matter who is in charge. But this sipping coffee and going to the beach shit is not working. If players want to go to the beach and enjoy what the club has to offer fine - but they need to earn it. So if the club is in the top four players should be allowed to enjoy the cafe and beach lifestyle Newcastle offers. But if they are not in the top four then all players should be in lock-down.

If the team drops out of the top six then I think management needs to introduce mandatory Waterboarding to remind players of their role and as an incentive to train harder.

Halloran wiuld be a great signing in that he would do really well in this league

Burns would be not so good in that i cant see him being a dominant force

If we have the money to be in the market for Milligan then go for it. He would be a great addition to the squad. If he qasnt available then Jedinak would be an option although he probably getting long in the tooth

Issue for us is getting the foreigners right.
That where we can really improve.

Seriously
Poljak Kokko Nordstrand Brown .

Miller was taking the piss signing these 4 as best he could find

That and where we can improve is actually signing blokes like Petratos. We actually need to go raid rival Aussie clubs and sign HAL standard players

I would actually go pilfer some Gypos. They have 2/3 that would be of use going forward

So according to herald we are in 'advanced negotiations' with georgevski. Someone on here has been asking for us to go after him for a couple of years.
Anyway there is a trend I'm noticing and liking about these rumoured acquisitions, and it's not just the gypo striker and georgevski. They are aggressive pricks and mentally tough, something we lack terribly

Within a week of living in Newcastle enjoying the beach lifestyle and generally relaxed atmosphere of the town his aggression and mental toughness will disappear. Once the team starts losing and he realises the club is not professionally administered like Melbourne Victory he's going to either throw the towel or start looking for greener pastures. Frustration levels will rise and like Carney and others he's going to hold the club to ransom.

Not to mention how much the clubs going to have to pay for him ? Unless Victory don't want him the Jets will pay double what he's currently on.

If the club was signing ten players of his standard plus 5 marques on top of that I'd be enthusiastic. But Georgevski will be touted by the Jets as the 2nd coming when the reality is he's pretty much the minimum standard any club looking to win the league should be playing.

Absolutely loving this beach lifestyle thing you're banging on about. Almost as if it didn't exist when we won a grand final or were actually doing well? What would you have us do? Move the club to Ipswich or fence off the beach?

We won the grand final when the league didn't allow teams to have seven or eight players outside the salary cap.
Under the current system the Jets simply do not have the coin to be competitive.
Players know this but come here anyway because they can essentially get a holiday for a few years and make more than they would elsewhere.
I mean what do you think someone like Georgevski will get paid to come here ? If it's anything less than double what Victory are offering him I'd be very surprised.
Back in Cons time players didn't have the leverage they do now given the growth of football in Asia and the fact that players have already tested the waters for them in these other countries / leagues.
It's not specific to this sport either. Player associations / representation is getting stronger and players are essentially running clubs - especially the smaller less successful ones.
I'd love to hear what Phil Stubbins views on the club and players were from his time at the Jets. Players told us he had no idea and so on - but how do we know for sure it wasn't a case of a player revolt because he'd upset the status quo of doing **** all for a better than they deserve salary year in year out ?

yeah but if we are ever going to get any good and have a proper decent attacking mid we're better off signing someone 'proven' in the league rather than take yet another punt on yet another 'unknown' and pretty much guarantee yet another failure.

I'd be happy if they folded the club to be honest. The Jets haven't been on my list of things I give a **** about for a very long time.
Club needs a new name, new owner, a minimum of six quality players outside the salary cap, and a new venue. Until that happens it's going to be more of the same no finals football, as long as fans continue to accept the mediocrity.

I rate vujica for the future. Georgevski is a much more capable player then Hoffman. Cowburn is the worst of them all.
It would all depend on what they pay for him. Whilst I agree DG would be the highest paid of the lot I disagree we would have to open the cheque book for him. He's always been a fringe starter down there. Be a certain starter here.
Wing backs are very underrated in this league.
Much like Kalfalah and I agree he should be a priority. People say he's past his prime but he's been displaced by arguably the best player in the league in Rojas. In my opinion he's still got 2 or so years of good football left. Drama is his daughter loves Melbourne and he's made it known he wants to stay.

Geogevski on the other hand is a full back

my point is why are we even thinking about that spot when our continued mediocrity in the middle of the park and up front means those wing backs won't change a god damned thing.

I'm with Plague on this. Why pay through the arse for a player that is maybe 30-40% better than what we have in a position that isn't going to transform how we play the game? Georgevski is good left back but not worth the money it will cost us to sign him.

That is true.
We have barely had a settled back line all season through injury and selection changes

I am also a big believer in the importance fullbacks have to success

A successful side has fullbacks performing well.

The amount of attacks killed by fullbacks not being able to play is biblical in the HAL

I'm not saying it will transform the way we play. I'm saying we need to make 7/8 quality signings and georgevski would be. Start. Making an improvement right throughout the squad. Each year we make one or two "ok" signings whilst every other squad in the league strengthens much further. Then we all sit back and think we will cruise into the finals. This team needs a decent striker, 10, winger, midfielders, fullback and centre back. Also who says we are paying huge amounts for him?

Logic.

We are fighting for the spoon and they are fighting for a home finals spot??? We will have to offer Kanta money to sign with us. I wouldn't be unhappy if we signed him as we definitely need a LB starter and he is a very good LB, i just worry about the ratio of quality to cost, his quality is fine but i worry that the wages will make us weaker in other areas.

Remember we don't have marquee wages to offer people or any money outside of the salary cap. If that starts to happen than this is a different conversation.

Under the current system the Jets simply do not have the coin to be competitive.

Don't have the coin? Don't have the coin? Really? Isn't Mr LED a billionaire? There are marquee positions available outside the salary cap plus other concessions that the club has NEVER used. There is no excuse for the club not to massively overhaul the roster.

what an unprofessional organisation we have. We now have Mckinna using herald articles to urge fans to keep the faith by saying we are recruiting and owner wants a marquee.!!

seriously does he not know better than that we have all seen articles like this so many times before. Also you gotta love "ask the 2 newcastle old boys their thoughts on Jones the coach". of course they will back their mate.

There's prudent then there's neglectful. A sign of intent in first season would have gone a long way to allaying fan concerns and made the club a more attractive proposition for future signings. Instead, team is horrible, half of them are gone or going and even if he does throw more money at the side, we'll have another season of mediocrity on the back of the huge turnover we're going to have.

If you put Nobby around competent players and use him as an impact sub you'd know how good he could be

Clut is a quality player, early in the season when he was getting game time and everyone else was actually playing good football he was great, worth investing time into

We had a choice last year whether he done enough to get a new deal or not.

We gambled and re signed him.

In hindsight it has not paid off.

Based on that it is time to cut losses and move on.

As for wasting a foreigner spot on a bench player you should get a Job at the Jets. With wastefulness like that you will fit right in

As for Clut a couple of good touches do not make it. If he was any good he would be constantly involved in games. He isn't. He is just a peripheral player

Other thing to note Brisbane play good football . They need to regenerate their aging team. If he was any good they would never have let him leave. They did. Ask yourself WHY??

His legs are shot? You are smoking crack.

He is week in, week out, one of the most active players on the field and creates plenty of opportunities when he plays as a 10. Jones keeps playing him as a 9 which he is not.

If you'd said he has no killer instinct to shoot or that he shouldn't be sitting up front as a sole striker (which is Jones' fault), I could not agree more.

He's started I think 4 or 5 games and had 6 or 7 subs appearances (Calling a stat man). He needs a solid season of consistent game time just like Hoole got so we can truly see what he can do.

He's also been the best number 10 weve used all year

I'd rather see Clut in 10 than Brown. I haven't seen anything really from Brown since pre season creativity wise. Industry and work rate sure, but there's other spots in midfield for that. I'd place Clut behind Nordstrand and probably slightly ahead of Leilei in our #10 pecking order.
And I also see him as a decent option at striker. Best he's looked this season and some of our best attacking football was him playing as a false 9. I think he could work well in a striking partnership potentially.

Last 4 games, we lose 4 and concede 15 goals. Clut isn't even in the squad for any of those games. The last time he plays we actually get a point. He was involved in 3 of our 5 wins this season. If you think he needs to be cut, there's 18-20 players that go before he does. Is he good enough to propel this team into the top 4, probably not. But he's certainly shown enough to warrant being given another season. More than ****ing Jones.

Miller beat Wellington in Wellington, and won twice in a row in Gosford. What's your point? And it was up to the FFA to pay out those players when Miller was here... of course they weren't going to. Big difference they've made by the way.

Would anyone think it's a possibility to go after McLaren? Marquee wages of course. I think it would be a long shot as he's starting every game for Roar and obviously looking to go overseas. Such a shame we didn't genuinely look at him when he left Perth. I'd been calling for us to. But it would be a pretty big statement to go hard at a player like him. Similar to what Victory did poaching Berisha from Brissy.

Now going off your recent logic, Member.. It was the PLAYERS who won in Perth. Not Jones. So you can't count this as a Jones achievement.
Raheem scoring goals, as a Jones achievement? Again, using your logic, this is the PLAYERS achievement. Nothing to do with Jones. If the players performs its on THEM, same as if they don't perform.
Releasing two under utilised players, Jones probably had a say it in, but the final decision is on higher management. But I'll give you that one.
Letting BK go? He did his ACL, has done **** all for the last 3-4 years and is getting old. I'm not sure you can count this one as a Jones achievement either, anyone could let that useless prick go.

Releasing players who are off contract at the end of the year is only an achievement if he replaces them with people that make a difference. What did we do? Sweet. ****. All(wright). Bravo Jones, really got ahead of the curve in punting them out in Jan instead of letting them leave in June.

As Ive been saying Jones found no signings in January, Miller found some with less resources and got them to perform. Nordstrand looked quality under Miller but has looked rubbish under Jones. He has been let down by a team full of players who can not execute skills correctly.

He has been let down by the Gypo CEO and Ledman with no backing in the market to strengthen the squad.

Basically he is the bloke getting all the criticism and has the Lynch mob baying for his blood.

But he isn't the issue.

He is the fall guy for others incompetence

The attention and negativity needs to be put on hold.

Most of the squad are gone in a few weeks anyway. That we are in the market for blokes like Georgevski and Petratos shows we actually trying and bringing in HAL level players for a change.

Hopefully the Chinese Lightsalesman has cottoned onto the fact he needs to spend spend spend to get us up to spec.

Hopefully the last couple of weeks are just what is needed to break the camel's back and force him into some action

Until the off season has been and done all the blabbering is achieving nothing.

Too many are focused on putting pressure on the Chinese Lightsalesman to sack Jones

They really should be focusing on getting the Chinese Lightsalesman to open his wallet and bring in the quality players we desperately need

????/Poljak**, Ugarkovic/Brown
Nabbout/?????, ??????/Shawbow, ?????/Petratos (the crap one)
Most likely O'Donovan/Kokko

From what i have heard Mullen has been offered a new contract but its way unders on his current deal and what he wants, he is also waiting on Adelaide to offer him a deal. Whats the status of Daniel Alessi will he fill that 4th choice centre back spot? Or does he go after someone like a Taylor Regan or Poscoliero as 4th choice?

Dont think Kanta or Poljak will be resigned, unless Poljak gets his australian citizenship.

Also who do we sign to take Hoole's spot, talks of Austin, not sure if there is any thing to it.

I would sign Lewis italiano as competition for Jack Duncan, think he can push for the number one spot.

So we have room for 2 visa players, one at 6, need an Isaias-esque type of player. And then a number 10, however we need to sign a chinese player also, unless we can get rid of Kokko some how, and in saying that do we take a risk on a Corey Gamiero if he gets released?

There is some quality coming off contract, like Holosko, Ninkovic, Castro remains to be seen whether or not we can afford them.

No one knows what Jones thinks about Clut until we ask him personally. Otherwise it's just like the rest of the posts on this wonderful forum.... Asswind! Hahahaha.:arse::arse::arse:

Yeah but when your starting players arnt playing well and you hear Clut is training well but cant get a game, Its managers favorites all over again and makes me want Jones going even further

I backing that the words he training well are complete and utter shit.

If he training well I sure he be getting a run.

Jones is always harping on about performance in training.

He obviously must base his selections on it as somehow Kokko has had 10 comebacks which is obviously down to his training as he doesn't offer it in a game.

Maybe Clut not picked as he not good enough??

Member, that was a terrible rant. Terrible grammar at the very least.

Jones isn't picking him because he doesn't think he can improve the squad. It may have nothing to do with training. If you're a square peg and he needs a triangle peg than no matter how hard he trains it ain't going to work out.

Clut's record whilst on the pitch shows that he doesn't have a negative effect on those around him so you can't start knocking his ability based on Jones assessment of him. I understand you want to give Jones a chance to improve the team and that's great, but don't start saying he has a good judge of character before he has actually done anything to prove you right. Once he started making choices on the playing squad you can back your argument up with facts. Stay the course big bird but don't get ahead of yourself.

has anyone heard further about whats happening with ma leilei? if he still going in the offseason or no?

also, when looking at the fact that we're probably signing a chilean and chinese player along with the strong rumour of O'Donovan, i'd say we definitely won't be keeping Nobby and will be moving poljak on unless he gets a citizenship but even then Jones isnt using him as frequently

Tommyjet

Mckinna stated that we would only consider the chilean option in the january transfer window if the opportunity arises. So if we sell the chinese players (s) in january a spot will open up for a loan basically

I know there are a lot of us still waiting for Member to explain to us how Jones has "proved" himself and what he has achieved exactly..

I honestly thought we were a better team when clut + nordstrand were playing together at the start of the season, both our wingers were scoring and didn't seem as isolated as they do now.

Yes. We were doing ok but conceding a few goals so Jones said he was going to look at tightening things up defensively. And since then we had a few games where we were marginally better defensively but our ability to score freely seemed to disappear.
Maybe other coaches worked us out ? I don't know. But rather than tighten the defence why not just score more goals ?

The fact that you are aware of that the in hasn't given Jones significant investment for this season makes your post look weak

But no weaker than your claim that this is a top 6 side as we take part in the Bogan derby for a wooden spoon today

That's who i would think we will be looking at. I don't love all those players i've chosen but we don't really have a scouting network. Some of the crappier choices come down to wage demands, we definitely have struggled with depth again this year. A couple of nice options of the bench to cover injuries would be nice next year. I'd be happy if we got anyone half decent from Sydney, i.e. anyone other than Cabbage hands.
