The Jetstream Podcast S20 Ep1 – Is It The Vibes?

Furns (@JetstreamNewy) Matt (@Ego2k) & Andy (@ajlane1) catch up to preview the 2024/25 @NewcastleJetsFC @Aleaguemen season #NEWvMCY #NTUA #VamosElJerkos

Furns welcomes back Matt and Andy to preview the season ahead for the mighty Newcastle United Jets FC.

We start off by having a chat about the Australia Cup, preseason friendlies and some of the player movements before diving into the situation around the club now the ownership has been sorted.

The conversation then turned to the rest of the clubs in the league, and how the sizeable reduction in the grant from the APL is going to effect some clubs fortunes in the season ahead.

We then also talked about the news breaking about the departure of the Mariners owner and how their season could unfold or unravel.

Discussion then switched back to the Jets where we then moved on to more talk about the players before getting into a quick preview for the first home game of the season against Melbourne City at home.

Thank you to everyone who sent in their questions, we got through as many as we could within the time we had with Maurice. And thank you to Maurice for his time and as well to Matt and Tom from the Jets for helping with organising the interview.

Furns and Matt return after a hiatus to run the rule over the Jets Men 23/24 season. We discussed all the stats, performances of the players and the team style overall compared with the 22/23 season under Arthur Papas.

Then we moved on the news of the ownership saga finally ending with Maverick Sports Partners being confirmed as the new ownership group in charge of the Newcastle Jets going forward, what that might mean and where the areas of opportunity are for the new consortium.

We covered off some of the news around the League itself with club grants being confirmed as a measly $530k with a $2.25mil salary floor for each club and what that might mean for all the professional clubs in the short and medium term.

We then talked about the squad, including departures and signings and what we are hoping to see in the upcoming season with a lot of focus on youth and development.

Finally, we covered off the Women’s 23/24 season briefly and what a fantastic effort they put in to make the finals series. We also covered off some of the latest player movements.

Furns and Matt return after (again) a week off to go over the Jets performance in the penultimate round of the A-League Men against Wellington. We discussed the starting lineup, performances of some of the players and the team overall across the two halves of football, as well as the goals, and a result against a team challenging for the Premiers Plate.

Then we moved on the Jets Women who played their 1st leg of the semifinal in Maitland in front of a packed house. Unfortunately it was advantage Melbourne City who ran away 3-0 winners, leaving the girls a mountain to climb away from home in the 2nd leg. We believe they can do it, and fingers crossed they will on Sunday.

Finally, we covered off this weekends Men’s match against the Mariners at home in the final round of the regular season and gave our thoughts whether the Jets can spoil the Mariners getting their hands on the Premiers Plate. We also gave our predictions on the rest of the games in the round.
